Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
I wish I could do the billets that Stiney had, .. but I just can't on a daily driver and the truck will be sitting outside too. I will probably do the gray Coys just so they're easier to take care of and that's one of my favorite wheels ever.
20" Salt flats would be cool too.. not sure just yet. Still open for a used set. I'm hoping someone will want to freshen theirs up and sell a good setup soon. There's a reason IMO a lot of people have the Coys and TTIIs They just look cool on old trucks. I'd put them on my lawnmower if I could. |
Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
IMO... skip the rear discs.
|
Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
With a limited budget, I would start off by dropping it!
Purchase a 5 lug disk brake conversion kit with 2" (or 2.5") drop spindles and 2" lowering springs. For now, change over to 5 lug rear axles, and drop the rear as much as possible without a c-notch (5" or 6"?). Maybe when you are ready to remove the bed, we can detail the frame and add rear disks? With this truck being a daily driver, you really don't want it scraping across speed bumps and curbs. You could even run the 5 lug Rallys from your Big Block truck until you get your 20's if cash was a little low. This would eliminate those "grandpa" whitewalls and get the truck out of the nose bleed section. POP |

Thinking about this wheel for the GMC? Raceline Burst |
Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
Truck is looking good. I agree...skip the rear discs. And...while I like those Racelines...they don't seem to "fit" the look of the truck (light patina nice original) I think the coys, tt2's or similar would fit the truck better....just MHO though ;)
Still hoping to swing by and see both your trucks sometime either on my way down or back again this time. last time I came back late at night with my sister in law and her daughter in the van so that was a no-go ;) Pm me your dad's address and I'll try to figure out how to work it into my schedule and see if we can meet up there sometime. |

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
Still undecided on the wheels, saving a little money up and I'll get them soon. It wouldn't make sense really to put billets on a driver that will have to sit outside.. I'll probably stay with a cast wheel of some sort.
Not sure what I'll get yet .. |
Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
Oh, the Racelines are only $549 ea for the 20x8.5
Guess those are out .. |

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
I actually called the paint store this morning to price my grille / top paint for it. I haven't forgotten
.. but I did kinda borrow the fuel return spring off of it for my GMC the other day. I honestly felt bad for doing it. Oh, no .. I haven't forgotten about it. Just trying to get the GMC in 'driver' condition then it's back to the 68. The funds are coming from a difference source on this truck than the BB truck too so that will help. Momma keeps me pretty busy around the house too. She asked me this morning.. "When are you going to start the ceramic tile project in the kitchen?" :sumo: |

I think the truck has had rockers put in it at one point in it's life, but the cab mounts and typical rust areas look really good (to me ?)
The door panels were curling up so I can understand the metal plates on the doors. I'll tack up the holes and grind them smooth / paint and the will be tough to see. The headliner is there, but it is drooping just a tad. I'll fix that .. I think it will clean up really nice. It does still have the black pad / cover thing over the gas tank but it has slid down over the years .. A good upholstry shop should be able to fix that foam in the seat .. you think? The tailgate looks really good but the bed is shot. I will be pulling the entire bed floor, replacing the rear inner wheel wells with some really good original west coast GM fender wells and all new wood bed floor / supports. The front bed panel will also be replaced. It looks like either cheap bedliner or maybe house paint in the bed ?? It's rough ! .. but not for long. :D |

Talking to Special-K, this might be a Super Custom? Not sure. Can you tell? Special-K mentioned the Z84 pkg on the SPID + the custom seat / headliner might be a Super Custom specific thing. I have no idea.. I hope (and feel like) he's right! :metal: |
Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
The driver's side still has quite a bit of orange peel on it. The pasenger side has been cut and buffed and you can definitely tell it. More to come soon! I hope to order my suspension stuff in about 10 days. I am going to collect everything and just take a week off work. Hang out with dad and just do it all at one time. Suspension, wheels, tires, sway bars, complete interior, and new wood bed floor. Just sit the truck on stands, strip it and come back up. All the parts onsite and just do it.
Anyone heading to TN anytime soon ? Mid May - Early June? |
Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
great idea getting everything there and ready to go , then just hammer it out !! I dont understand how your cab supports can be so nice and the bedfloor be so rusty !! that is weird !

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
Hey CC69Rat, I'm loving this truck more each time I see it.
What do the GMC fender emblems say? Also,... if you change interior color,... I will be interested in a good set of '70 Gold seat belts. Keep me in mind. Also another question for the GMC experts. What year were the "nicer" side marker lights available on the GMC's? (71-72 only?) Should your marker lights be the plain red and yellow version? Or are those correct? |
Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
I love how the a/c has the deluxe knobs.
