This should be the height of the rear wheel wells:

Switched gears a little and worked on the final install of the high hump conversion. I spot welded the firewall piece in and welded square nuts to the underside of the floor for the main hump so it bolts in just like stock and has the same style nuts too.

Worked on installing the 1-1/4" Porterbuilt (ADDCO) sway bar. The center of the sway bar came out exactly on the lower radiator support crossmember. I drilled out all 4 of the rivets, replaced the top ones with 7/16" bolts, welded on a new mount tab for the lower mounting hole so it lined up with the rear sway bar bracket, and plugged the old mounting holes.

Nothing worth taking pictures of but I have been doing some work. Mainly just additional bracing and welding of the new bed support frame. I did find a local sawmill that has cut me some oak boards for my bed. I ordered as basically just boards 8" wide expecting to saw them to around 7" wide for installation. I ordered non polished stainless strips as I don't want them to stand out too much against everything else that is just "driver' condition. I don't know what the oak boards will look like but he is doing 12 boards 8" wide planed down to 3/4" thickness for 54.00 I think for that price they should be good enough. I hope to pick them up tomorrow or some night this week.

Re: DURG's Black 65 C10

I also ordered an Ididit steering column that is 4" shorter than stock in hopes I can get away with just two single u-joints and not have to run a bearing and third or multiple piece u-joint. 3 to 4 week lead time on that.

Also if it stops raining anytime soon, I plan on rolling the truck out, turning it around, so I can install (mock up) the motor and tranny. Once that is in I plan on installing the Porterbuilt center cross member and bracing it back to the frame where the 4 link forward mount is. It will all be bolt in so it can be removed if necessary.

Re: DURG's Black 65 C10

Got the truck turned around and I put a 327 small block and turbo 350 tranny in for mockup. I have a ton of room between the pan and crossmember and also between the balancer and rack. even an 8" balancer could go down an inch. I talked to Dave at Porterbuilt and they are going to try and hook me up with a different set of truss plates to lower the motor 3/4". That will keep the bottom of my oil pan sump even with the bottom of the crossmember.

Re: DURG's Black 65 C10

On the rear frame I tied in another brace down to the lower rear part of the notch. It is removeable with the upper bridge assy. I think that it kind of ties the rear frame together nicely. I also got some 4" pipe to cut a couple half rings out of and I am going to install them up into the cross sills for extra driveshaft clearance. It is marked out in white just below the ring. I still need to weld in some vertical supports from the sills up to the new bed frame bracing.

Re: DURG's Black 65 C10

The driveshaft cutout installation in the cross sills went south in a hurry. When I cut out the semi circle to install the 1/2 round pieces of pipe I didnt notice but the weight of the box bent both cross sills down about one inch on the ends and I didnt notice until both sills were cut and the 1/2 rings were welded in. These sills are really cheesy anyway, so I ordered 2x3" x .120" rectangular tubing and I am going to make all new cross braces. I got news from Coys that my 22" rear wheels have shipped and the 20's will ship later this week. I want to put this thing back on the ground with the real wheels and tires so I can set my ride heights and also put in the bed bracing where the rear inner wheel wells will be going. Nothing worth taking pictures of.

Its coming along great and your Impala looks awesome! Looks like Porterbuilt does some quality work also. Reading this build has convinced me on doing a coil over setup. Subscribed! :metal:

Re: DURG's Black 65 C10

Thanks. I did get my 20" front wheels from Coys. Both had damaged lips so I have to get them replaced. Supposedly stock on them in Cali and they will ship next week. The 22" rear wheels are stuck in New Jersey with UPS somewhere due to the bad storm. I got and installed the new lower motor trusses from The fine folks at Porterbuilt, so the engine sits 3/4" of an inch lower now. This also moved the passenger side header away from the cowl a bit so all looks good there. I got my 2x3 rectangular tubing to make the new cross sills too and my Lokar shifter is due in tomorrow as well.
