I turn 50 on the 13th. We had a birthday party this weekend and my sister gave me a few pictures of the truck that inspired this build.

If you read the beginning of this thread I talked about Frog. This is a picture of him (on left) after a successful deer hunt

This is a picture of my nephew and his son. Some day this truck will be passed on to him.

Took final load of body parts to be blasted. Should pick the up Monday. I will prime them and then drop them off at the painter.

Your build is coming along nicely. I really like the paint looks like it was worth the wait.

Thanks. I love the color. I debated on going with the dark olive but decided to stay with the dark green. I think I made the right choice.

The hood and tailgate look to be in good condition.
Both the front and rear fenders appear to need some work.
What about the bed sides I can't really tell what condition they are in from the pictures, are they bowed at all?
What about the front panel I don't see it in the pictures.

Bedsides are good. I am replacing the front panel. Fenders will need some work.

It's nothing that can't be fixed. Mine was worse than yours and look at them now. It will take some replacing some of the metal but it will work. Happy building

Header panels aren't hard to come by so you should be good. I really like the color of your truck. Is that 7'70 green?

I am planning on going with a repop front bed panel. I am going to let the painter take care of the rest of the body repair. The color is the factory dark green 505.

What are your plans for the rusted out areas on the various pieces, metal replacement or quick and dirty?

Re: 70 Short Stepside

Got some parts back from powdercoating. Notice the awesome dent in my breather cap. I barely got home with it and dropped it. I will have to find another one and have it done. I have a few more parts to take anyway. You can see the pitting in the bed supports, but they will be covered

Brian, the painter is going to cut the rust out and replace it. I showed him the pieces before blasting and he said they could handle it. It is above my pay grade. I will work on the stuff that is not right out there for all to see.

Good deal.
I don't know why but it seems like it's hard to find a body shop that will replace the metal, so here is my scheme.
When I need some rust repaired I tell them I just need the metal replaced and sealed and not to add filler because it's going to be a while before I have it painted.
That way after their work I can bring it home and remove the sealer and find out if they are liars or not.
I do this because I flat out don't trust them to do the job right, it seems like everyone is just out to rip people off these days and over promise and under deliver.
I don't trust anyone that hasn't earned it, that's just me though.

I have known Rick, the painter for a long time. He is straight up and takes a lot of pride in his work. I understand what goes on out there, but I don't think I have much to worry about. But, just in case, I stop by pretty regular. ;)

Excellent, I'm glad you found someone that is trustworthy, it is rare in this world.

Yes it is hard to find trust worthy people especially in body and paint for some reason.

Getting the wiring done. I started the truck with the key yesterday. :metal:
Ordered a lot of small parts today. Dropped off the rest of the body parts at the painter.
