Re: The Old Yeller Resurrection Project
Very nice work. Were the 2 of you able to decide on the color?

The original 520 yellow was a little too "mustardy" for our taste. 49 years in the California sun had faded it into a more mellow yellow that we both like. Daytona yellow seems to be the closest to that. |

Moving along to the cab:
http://i.imgur.com/TotRKell.jpg http://i.imgur.com/MecoGzRl.jpg Here's the current conundrum: The original plan was to shoot a urethane single-stage, with the idea of maintaining an "original" look. But with all the bodywork, sweat and tears put into this so far, I'm reconsidering the base/clear. Cost and effort are the two biggest considerations, but if you've been following to this point, that has gone out the window on more than one occassion. |

Re: The Old Yeller Resurrection Project
The new grille did not go in as easy as imagined, but it's in. So is the glass. 90% done now, just working on the little details before moving to the interior.
http://i.imgur.com/bhWxGGkl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/UsGQclrl.jpg Still contemplating trim though, seems like it's missing something. The chrome around the back of the cab will likely go back since it makes a nice paint separator. As for the side molding, I'm torn. If it does go back on it'll likely be stick-on. Real first-world decisions here. |

It’s looking really good!

Re: The Old Yeller Resurrection Project
Finally! The truck is back from the paint shop. I'm moving forward with the interior now, looking to capitalize on this valuable "self-quarantine" time.
Starting from the deepest crevices, I decided to try my hand a dual-speaker setup under the dash. There are a lot of good ideas from others, so I went with the "cutting board" template described by one member using two 4" speakers: http://i.imgur.com/bsK6nTAl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/R19pJGUl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/nW7r3xFl.jpg |

upcoming to-do list:
Dynamat cab and doors ABS firewall pad over the Dynamat Plumb ducting for heater box and controls Rear cab-corner 6x9 speakers (thanks @bigblock73!) Stereo head unit Flooring Dash pad |
Re: The Old Yeller Resurrection Project
Great project. I enjoyed reading your thread and look forward to seeing the finished product.

Re: The Old Yeller Resurrection Project
We got tunes now!
I fashioned a couple of dash speakers out of my wife's cutting board, then picked up some speaker brackets from @bigblock73 that installed very nicely. I was 16 years old when I installed the first headunit in this truck, cost me an entire paycheck. This second one was less of a cost burden ;) http://i.imgur.com/bsK6nTAl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/nW7r3xFl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/xpFHSyJl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/gbntRwOl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/bPTcLPSl.jpg |

Re: The Old Yeller Resurrection Project
With two toddlers, progress comes 20-30 minutes at a time...
Installed new windshield washer system (pump, hoses, reservoir, squirters) Finished doors (felt, trim, rests, etc.) Laid down some Dynamat with Dynaliner on top (firewall, doors, floor), then the rubber floor. http://i.imgur.com/ZQVOpJBl.jpg Wasn't too impressed with the aftermarket firewall pads, think I'll do Dynaliner up there too. Bolted in the new seat, very happy with the look and feel of it! And the rear pockets will be very handy. http://i.imgur.com/4bPBLCVl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/z9sDWa9l.jpg Working on the heater controls and cables now. I might have the "Air Fan" cable routed wrong because it makes an "S" shape behind the dash. |
Re: The Old Yeller Resurrection Project
Excellent progress on this build!
When you get dynomat in the doors, please share the best way of doing so. I'm at that point now and dreading it. |

The door was fortunate enough to have a speaker hole cut in the lower right corner. That made it more accessible but still challenging. By no means 100% covered like the floor, but should be enough in there spaced out to be somewhat effective. |
Re: The Old Yeller Resurrection Project
Shoring up a lot of little things lately.
I had my doubts about vinyl lettering but these turned out great, and were SUPER easy to attach: http://i.imgur.com/f7nACWal.jpg The molding was another story. All the holes were filled because I had planned on using 3M double-sided tape. Unfortunately the molding has some deep grooves that don't allow a flat area for the tape to stick: http://i.imgur.com/PxSoJVcl.jpg I decided to try some self-leveling seam sealer to fill in the trenches in the molding. The surface is nice and flat now, but will it hold with the double sided tape? It seems solid, but only time will tell: http://i.imgur.com/sap0wyll.jpg My oldest was in a baby-walker when this project started, now she's three! http://i.imgur.com/PNNZHlJl.jpg |
