Re: My 93 Crewcab Build
Well I have a bed now and I am going by work tomorrow to put in on with a forklift and set it on the frame. I have done a lot of measuring on a LWB and a SWB frame and I am now thinking that cutting the frame underneath the cab may be the best way.
Sure you can put the hangers forward, but that would also mean the shock brackets, rear x brace thing, gas tank brace, etc. |

It is possible to lower the brackets and move it forward but then you will have to re route the fuel filler neck hose. Guess its a "pick your battles" situation either cut frame under cab and move, fuel tank stuff, cab mount, nearly all bed mounts and have to weld up side down (which id rather honestly take an ass woopin ) or take the massive cab off (which, no thanks) Or change fuel tank move brackets forward and shock brackets and cut the back end of frame off all in which while almost standing up to do the welding or drilling  Im going to measure some more but think thats what im leaning towards. |
Re: My 93 Crewcab Build
I don't see how you can cut under the cab. according to the info I have found you need to remove 14" from the frame. I thought the problem was that there isn't enough room between the back of the cab and where the frame angles up. cutting under the cab you will have the same problem, the angled up piece will hit the cab before you get 14", and you will still need to re-locate the front bed mounts.
another option would be to move the front hanger forward and shorten the frame above and forward of the rear axle, that would keep all the shock mounts and the cross bracing in the correct place. or Scott, you could (as Travis had mentioned) get the green one running then back half the crew and the white one to use the back half from the white one on the crew. That would give you the correct gas tank and all that jazz. ;) |
Re: My 93 Crewcab Build
There is enough room before the curve in frame but just barely but if someone didnt like how close it was it wouldnt be a big deal to notch the frame or cab a bit to get the clearance you wanted.
Yeah that would be an idea because ol whitey has about had it anyways  |

Re: My 93 Crewcab Build
Well i got some stuff done on it today. Ground off some rivets and done some measuring, just have some clamps holding it close to where it needs to go for now.

decisions decisions
you must be thinking hard because you posted the same pic twice  |
Re: My 93 Crewcab Build
How did you know where to move the front hanger to?
I got under a 99 or 2000 shortbed 4x4 and took some decent pictures of the set-up. I still dont know how I want to cut the frame down. 1. When you move the front hanger down and forward doesnt this actually raise the truck? 2. Do you think the shortbed gas tank will work now? I already have the front hanger bracket assembly that is used on shortbed trucks. It was already off of a truck at the local PullA Part just laying in a bed. 3. So where is the difference between the short and longbed frames actually at? In the raised arear behind the cab? |

Yeah the shortbed tank will work now, i just wish i could use this one, i might just move the brackets forward and tank down just a bit to clear the back of the cab but not sure.. ill see about that when i get to it. Yeah i think so but i havent seen a stock crew to put them side by side to actually check. |

Re: My 93 Crewcab Build
Great build.:metal:
I recently was looking at a 97 crew cab 1/2 ton sort bed that a local dealer was selling. They wanted way to much. I tried to talk then down, but wouldn't budge. It sat for four months with no bites. To bad that would have been nice.:chevy: |
