I've heard only good reviews on these made by Barbed Wire Off Road.....and they're made in the USA.

Re: Extreme Powder Coating '65 C-10 Shop Truck
Do you remember what thickness of steel you used to box your frame? I'm getting ready to box mine (without the speed holes) and I have the tendancy to go too thick with everything, so I'm just looking for a little insight.

Re: Extreme Powder Coating '65 C-10 Shop Truck
Hey guys I need some help. We are ready to start rebuilding the stock 65 12 bolt open rear end. Were do I purchase 5x5 axles / brake drums / seals /etc?
|
Re: Extreme Powder Coating '65 C-10 Shop Truck
The axles can be found at Summit Racing as well as some of the differential specialty guys like Randy's Ring and Pinion. I believe CPP and ECE have the axles also. Any of the other parts such as bearings, seals, shoes and related hardware can be sources from your local auto parts supplier. If I may make a suggestion.....I would upgrade to the wider shoes as found on the '76(?) and newer C10 12 bolts. You will have to change the backing plate and of course the drums, shoes and internal hardware. If you need to replace the original parts anyway, may as well upgrade while you're at it.

Re: Extreme Powder Coating '65 C-10 Shop Truck
Moser has agreat deal on axles. They can also make em whatever length or bolt pattern. Great guys to deal with.
I ordered a pair of customs axles and three days later they arrived. Luc |
Re: Extreme Powder Coating '65 C-10 Shop Truck
Greg I can get strange axles for the same money as moser . Custom built to your specs. Just another option for you. I also have a deal to buy Moser if you want them .

I got the axles back a week or so later..... w/no spider gear. According to them, I didn't send a spider gear (remember, it was taped in place). So, approx 3wks after the original receipt of their axles, I had some that fit better, but now I had to source another spider gear since I had one missing. I procured another spider gear only to still have issues getting the axles fully seated enough to install the c-clips. It seems the bearing races aren't machined in the exact correct area or the axle lengths are incorrect as there is wear on the differential pin that keeps the axles seated. This was on a factory 6-lug, 1968 12-bolt housing. Like I said, hopefully things are better. |

Re: Extreme Powder Coating '65 C-10 Shop Truck
Alvin, The inlet could be cut off with no problem and re-fabbed with a straight inlet. Very well built muffler.
Hey I really dig your truck .....and may buy a tire and wheel combo like your using also for my truck . |
Re: Extreme Powder Coating '65 C-10 Shop Truck
Thanks man! I think I'll pick up a pair of the mufflers.
I am really happy with the look of the wheels... wish they offered a different width for the back, but it still works. This truck you're building is pretty epic! I'm loving all the detail work going into it, keep it up! |
Re: Extreme Powder Coating '65 C-10 Shop Truck
Thanks, We built a 67 Buick Wagon a few years ago with 145 powdercoated parts on it. It was a huge success for my job shop. The car was featured in Hot Rod and Car Craft magazine and has received several Good-Guys awards. SOOO we needed a new project !!!
