Re: 61 Ford unibody project
I too miss my UNI ... a 1962 (Sold to HAMB member WhiteyFord). Although it had a dropped front axle & flip in the rear I always wanted to go to the next level as you have.
Outstanding job so far. If I can ask ... why the square tube vs. round with the frame X member & rear bracing? I understand the bed tube but the others?? Appears that you are on the home stretch & have inspired me to start looking for another F100. R46 |
Re: 61 Ford unibody project
Looks awesome man. I will be following this one. An early 60s ford is on my short list of must have trucks.

Re: 61 Ford unibody project
Hey Jake wasn't challenging you just have done lots of tube work with round stock ... seems to be EZ to work with vs. square.
No disrespect ... to the quality or workmanship - it just, as you mentioned, looked different than what's "typically" used. Don't make is better or worse. Love the truck so far. As I mentioned - got me looking for another early ford p/u. It's in the driveway as soon as my outlaw 10.5 '64 2dr post Fairlane hits the bricks & is in a new owners garage! |

Things the frame will have different is a parallel 4 link with watts link in the rear a mustang 8.8 with centered diff. The front will have side top a arm mounts and room for 2600 bags or shock wave style bags if I can let go of the cash they cost.ect ect I would love to put a coyote motor in it also. Maybe I just need another one to start on lol Jake |

I did end up full welding the exhaust and putting in a H pipe.Lots of room with the motor and trans sitting up as high as it is.

Re: 61 Ford unibody project
Super. I'm glad you read it as I meant it.
I'd finish it & drive it. Redoing stuff already done, IMHO, is like going backwards. Truck is very nicely done as is. Finish it up & drive the bag out of it. It's also been a good learning tool for the next one!! Plenty of good F100 donors out there ... |

"Just a pic I like lol." - JakeDW
That's exactly why you just need to finish it & drive the wheels off it!!! |

Even the head lights .yeah I know not really exciting pics to look at but a huge step for me getting closer to driving it.I used a rebel 9+3 kit nice kit and really good customer service.

Re: 61 Ford unibody project
I put in a new ignition switch vintage style like what was in it so I could use the original key.New light switch the repop like the original it was even labeled so that was nice to know where to hook everything up.New high beam floor switch.and used the original Ford wiper switch and heater switch and they both still worked so that was good.

Re: 61 Ford unibody project
Nicely done on the dash. Fits to a T.
Every time I see your progress I kind of regret sell my '62 UNI. Again - nicely executed so far. R46 |

Think I have a line on a 96 cheby short bed so I can use the bed floor out of it and ordered 60s cheby rear wheel tubs because they are cheaper and way better looking than the 70s Ford rear tubs I can get aftermarket. Jake |
Re: 61 Ford unibody project
Mine was rather "stockish" with the original driveline, dropped axle & flip. Interior was original bar the 20" flat speedway steering wheel to muscle the larger tires.

Jake - you are correct ... that's why I'm a bit jello over what you've done so far & why I stated earlier ... finish it up & drive the wheels off it.

Re: 61 Ford unibody project
That looks like it's in very good shape. R U going to utilize the tubs also? How does that measure out in the UNI bed?
Good luck with the fitment. It only went down in the high 20's here today ... colder tomorrow. Hey - this is the south!! OUCH. |

All though the tubs are just about perfect in the doner bed I am going to use 60-66 Chevy tubs as they are rounded and closer resemble the 60s ford tubs. Jake |

Re: 61 Ford unibody project
With what you've done with the rest of the truck the direct port injection would b the obvious choice. Anyone can run the Endelbrock unit ... The Inglese system is a bit more coin though ...
Start saving those dollars now ... |
