Re: 68 Burb... here we go!!
hey juan , i order the porterbuilts , if you want a cleaner look its a bid more work but you can always weld studs on the inside and not have bolts showing , just an idea !!!!!

Re: 68 Burb... here we go!!
Well sometimes in life all goes smooth and others not so smooth. It's been a not so smooth couple of weeks. The good out of the not so good times is to clear my head I work on the truck. Lol. Today a friend, who is subscribed to this build thread, did something very nice for me. I know he would not like the public recognition so I'll keep his name out of it. Anyways he helped me and made my day alot better.
You know who you are and all I can say is thanks man. Juan. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: 68 Burb... here we go!!
That's the one thing I like about this site is that board members here quickly become friends and family. All with a common goal to help each other build some bad a@# trucks. It is not just a hobby but a passion.

Re: 68 Burb... here we go!!
So true man. Well your parts shipped out today man, they said Thursday afternoon.
Thanks again. As far as the burb just waiting on parts..... Just waiting. This is the hard part, wanting them soo bad but you have to wait. I will paint the frame tomorrow and start the shaving of the firewall. Later guys Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: 68 Burb... here we go!!
I have so many parts built up now I don't know where to start first. I need to finish up my engine compartment first. Then move onto installing the suspension. I got a week off in Dec. so I should get a lot done then I hope. At least I have her running and driving now, only took about 6 months.
I was looking at a nice 72 burb yesterday for 4K. Man I wish I had the funds. My wife would kill me if I had bought it especially with Christmas time being so close. The firewall will look great when you are finished. I paln to do the same when I put vintage air system in mine. |
Re: 68 Burb... here we go!!
well we usually hear of all the bad customer service that we all experience from time to time. This is just the opposite.
Justin from Scotts called me this morning to tell me that my SUPER SLAM kit was almost finished, he just had to finish up the sway bar on Monday and package it all up and ship. Well I just got a call from Justin. He called me to tell me he stayed late and finished it all up, assembled it to make sure it was right and packaged it up. Now that is what I call customer service its Friday night. When I ordered it 3 weeks ago he let me know upfront that it would be 2 weeks before he could start since he was going to be doing 2 show on the east coast, then drive straight back to the shop in Cali. I can appreciate that. Well I hope to be updating with some fire wall pics and front frame pics this weekend. Later guys |
Re: 68 Burb... here we go!!
Burb looks good as far as the firewall shave it all and run the ez wire kit out the bottom of the firewall. You have to make all the wires longer but well worth it in the end..

Re: 68 Burb... here we go!!
i'm glad everything's working out for you bud, cant wait for your super slam , you gona be like a kid on christmas day , keep me posted on novas engine !!!

well Ive been working on my firewall today. I did the porterbuilt shave kit. Fit was good. I decided to cut off the lip of the firewall top. I will weld that seam then fill in the other holes that I wont be using.
I ran my tracking numbers and the UPS guy will hate me on monday. 5 heavy boxes from Scotts hot rods and some hinges from Porterbuilt all will be here on Monday. I cant wait. See you later!! Oh and I am trying to name this project so if you have any ideas post them up. Juan:haha: the smiley face is from my 4 year old girl... she likes the smiley faces. |

some update pics. I cut off the top firewall rail today. Man that lip went through some blades... no joke. I did find a little rust on the driver side, cut it out and will patch it up tomorrow. The full top cut is now tacked in place thanks to a few hundred small tack welds. It felt like it would never end. Tack on the right side, go to the left side, one tack... back to the other side. repeat about 200 times lol. next fix the rust and grind grind grind those welds smooth.
I should be getting a TON of boxes tomorrow so im a happy man. Later guys |
Re: 68 Burb... here we go!!
wow I guess I need to clean my camera .... its been sitting in the garage and that lense must be dirty. Sorry for the fuzzy pics.
|
Re: 68 Burb... here we go!!
Looks good....I don't weld but it sounds like it was a pain.
|
Re: 68 Burb... here we go!!
looking good , now keep it going and seal the whole firewall :D
|
Re: 68 Burb... here we go!!
nice work...so what you did was basically "cap" the gutter....? never seen anyone do it that way, looks good
|
Re: 68 Burb... here we go!!
Kevin... I'm pretty sure he cut the wire gutter down, it just looks like a cap near the area of rust he cut out. But we can blame the confusion of the dusty camera lense.
That mod is awesome. Really cleans-up the fire wall. I'm not gonna tackle that until I have to pull the motor. Good job. Gonna look great! Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: 68 Burb... here we go!!
lol..ya thats what i mean. its basically the same as welding sheetmetal over the gutter to cap it, but instead he cut that extra lip off at the base..which makes it look capped. i hope im making sense lol

well I got a TON of boxes yesterday from Scotts Hot Rods. I unpacked it all and was super stoked to get started... but I could not. I had to go back to work. No work, no play.... so off to work I went. By the time I got into the garage to check it all out and play it was 11:30pm. From start to full assembly it took me 3 hours 24 min hub to hub. I could not believe it. It all lined up perfect. The only modifications you have to do it open up the top mounting holes on the frame about 1/8 inch for the mounting bolts. The shock tower needs 4 holes drilled into the frame to mount it... and thats it. I will tear it all down tomorrow clean it up and paint it all. Then I will put it all back together and get this truck off the jack stands and lay her out. :metal:
Pics will be posted guys. Thanks Juan |

Re: 68 Burb... here we go!!
Thanks man. I've always wanted to go all out on the front of this truck. Took a little bit of saving and some patience. I know I made the right choice of kits. Now to finish up the firewall and start plumbing this bad boy up. Oh and wiring.... I hate doing wiring but I have to do it. Lol
