Pics from inside the cab. Clutch pedal assembly removed and manual column pulled. Rear view mirror and sunvisor installed....have a pass side also. And the correct door handles in and rubber mat down. Need to order a signal switch for the column and then it'll be ready to install. I'm ready for the red paint to go away.....
Just realized that at some point a 60-61 cluster was installed. |

More parts in...got the deluxe wheel in. Will need to fix to small cracks on the back of the wheel...no biggie as the stepside wheel gave me practice. Chrome looks pretty good....a few pits, but a nice addition to the truck.

Re: 1963 C-10 SWB BBW Fleetside in NC
Nice wheel !!
I so want to try my hand at reducing the diameter like Astronaut did, but would be scared to cut one of those up !! |

60-61 bed trim should be here soon, wide windshield trim enroute and I have the GMC side window trim to top it off. Just need 1 more back cab trim and it'll match the stepside. |
Re: 1963 C-10 SWB BBW Fleetside in NC
My niece says we should hook up an LED in the center section.....when she said this I though of you and your mods.

Re: 1963 C-10 SWB BBW Fleetside in NC
That is a very nice looking wheel!
I plan to reduce the diameter of my steering wheel, I have a great magazine article on how to go about it. It would be right up you alley Murph. When I do mine I will employ others more skilled than myself, but it would be a walk in the park for you! |
Re: 1963 C-10 SWB BBW Fleetside in NC
I bet with all the members here we could find you a practice wheel.

Re: 1963 C-10 SWB BBW Fleetside in NC
Dudes !!
I have a spare wheel that I picked up to practice on, and I have it sectioned already, but at the time my skills were too far under par to seriously attempt it. That, and I decided I wanted a 1/2" to 3/4" piece of plywood with the new size diameter cut out to use as a guide for the wheel to ensure I got it as close to perfectly round as possible. We all know how unnerving an out of round steering wheel is.... Man if I had a spare deluxe wheel to play with, you could bet your last penny I would light up the center part !! Maybe to only come on with the horn though......or dimmed and gets brighter with the horn..... Hmmmmmmmm Anyways, here is Astronauts page on his wheel when he reduced it on the Goldilocks build: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...g+wheel&page=9 In my Favorites for my web browser, I have a folder of things to do and that is where I index pages like his. Must Resist New Ideas !!!!!! |
Re: 1963 C-10 SWB BBW Fleetside in NC
i remeber his post on the wheel. i like the full size wheel for now. i have a spare center section for the deluxe wheel...and it has the screw on center emblem, which would make the process easier.... alot of the ones ive seen like mine are held on by rivets.

Another thread I have saved on the wheel reduction, similar technique as the magazine article I have, I will scan the article and add it to the above thread. |

Worse part was some giant bondo overspill to clean up. Didn't find any repairs on the shroud, so must have been from the truck it was pulled from. |

Classic Industries was running a 20% off sale for mother's day, so ordered the turn signal switch that was destroyed in shipping and ordered the new cab mounts. Now I can get the last of the frame prepped under the cab and install it for the last time. Once cab is mounted I can get the auto steering column installed and the steering wheel on.

OK, got the truck moved on to concrete and under shade yesterday so I can get back on it. I have new cab mounts in, so I can lift the cab and finish the frame prep and get it bolted down for the last time and then install the steering column. Ordered a new outer tie rod for the bent one, so the front end should be good minus new brakes and lines.
New parts in: cab mounts turn signal switch and column bearings deluxe steering wheel GMC side window trim 60-61 wide front windshield trim front end rubbers and seals (inner fenders and such) Was real fun moving the truck alone with no brakes or steering down the hill, but I got it done. |
Re: 1963 C-10 SWB BBW Fleetside in NC
Least ya got it there in one piece! LOL!
|
Re: 1963 C-10 SWB BBW Fleetside in NC
x2......and now I have shade and concrete!! Will be a big help, especially when pressure washing. No I don't have to let the dirt dry before I get back under it. And it'll stay dry now too.

Re: 1963 C-10 SWB BBW Fleetside in NC

The poles will be the main supports and they have been in since fall/winter so they can settle. They are solid now. Roof up soon and then some concrete down and I can get the walls up. Will be so nice to finally have an enclosed area to work, but the carport is an upgrade from the yard. |

I knew ya wasn't gonna sell it or trade it when ya spent months planning for the pick up trip and then got the cab and box assembled and on a frame and on the trailer and outta there in under 3 hours! HA! I never stood a chance of getting tween a man and his plans for a BBW Short Fleet! But don't worry, that lil Lightning Sheriff is posted up on gunbroker and teasing and tickling thousands of wallets even as we type back and forth!

Wrong year. Gotta be a 63 for me so I can trade my 65 on a 55 for GoodWife. But it'll be down the road bout a year yet anyhow unless its cheep like that one there. Sellin the house and castin about for a retirement property loaded with deer and nutgetters and wabbits and a shootin range.

Yep. 63 is the birth year. The 64 and the 65 are just temp fillers till I find the right 63.

Rain stalled me for a little last night. But had time to jack up the front of the cab to grind off the last 4 rivots of the bellhousing crossmember. Will get rust converters and paint down on the next 2-3 days and the new cab mounts on. Then I can install the fresh auto steering column. I replaced the bearings, cancel cam switch and wiring. Should be good to go for a few more years.

Re: 1963 C-10 SWB BBW Fleetside in NC
Also got the 60-61 style fresh air vents ready to install. This will put cable pull vents in....same as the 63 step side. I like them much better, especially when using them while driving.
