Re: 65Custom Build Thread
Amen to that unfortunately I had no choice some clown left it loose in the back of a truck and it flew out and came right in front of me as I entered the highway at full speed no place to go and no place to stop.
nothing in the rear view so I stopped and still didn't see anything I didn't think it would get wrapped around the drive line and I don't like being stopped on the side of the Highway, too many idiots on the road. I've seen too many troopers get hit so didn't want to take the chance and stay stopped for too long so it was a quick glance, lesson learned. |
Re: 65Custom Build Thread
I know what you mean about mental work. I don't know what I will do when the truck is done. I'll probably be thinking of what I can make better.

Well had to go to auto or give up my job... Just couldn't do that... I did fine the cash to do some interior this summer and it came out pretty good I think.. sure beats the high price of custom. And it looks pretty good.

Stopped to get gas today in the daily driver and this really nice 66 came into the station so I had to go over talk to guy for a few minutes while he pumped gas and told him about the site here and the many other guys around the area, he was interested and said he wanted to fix a few things on his ride. Not sure if he said he bought it from the original owner or not but the interior was in near mint condition.
He said he owns a horse farm in Waleska, Ga which is near Canton, Ga so hopefully we will see him on here soon in the mean time, I look a couple of pics as he was leaving. Sorry the pics are not great. btw his name is Bruce if you see him around town. a great guy. I also mentioned the yearly get together at Williams Brothers. It is great to see so many of these good old trucks still on the road today. Enjoy the pics |
Re: 65Custom Build Thread

Just wanted to throw this out there cruzinlow70 (Tim ) Stopped by the house today to chat about trucks etc. a really nice guy he lives really close to me so I hope we can maybe work together sometime he knows a lot of the local car guys and has a lot of connections. He has built some really nice cars. I really enjoyed myself today and made a new friend.
Attached a few pics of his ride purchase 66, I6, SWB with factory power steering the truck is pretty much untouched a great find. |

Re: 65Custom Build Thread
Just from these pics, I would guess that if the rest of the rig looked this good, it would be a candidate for a full on restoration back to factory.
So how is your build coming along? Been a while with the photos of yours !! |

Re: 65Custom Build Thread
Got some bad news today. I had accumulated a couple of big back window panels, I was saving to use or sell at a later date. I had them stored at a friends property. Well today he told me that sometime in the last couple of weeks someone found them and decided they needed them more than I do, they only took anything metal didn't bother to take anything else.
So I'm a bit bummed over it especially since a BBW panel is not something you can buy as repo. |
Re: 65Custom Build Thread
I know where here in Indianapolis indiana I cab is sitting that a guy wants to get rid of with a BBW. PM me if you are interested as he was going to send it to the JY soon to get rid of it

Howdy, neighbor!
I just read through your build. You've got a ton of cool stuff on that cab. It looks good sitting on the frame again :metal: Seeing your build gives me inspiration for mine. |
Re: 65Custom Build Thread
Hey cwcarpenter98, Nice looking 63 fleet, Yeah close not too far away. Yeah so when I started this project I had big ideas, and then I got older and ideas change, so some of those ideas most likely wont be making it on the truck, like a LT or LS engine, Been watching a good friend build a 60 Cadillac with a 5.3 and I just do not want all the conversion issues at this point so some things may be more old school so to speak, but yet to be determined.

Re: 65Custom Build Thread
Thanks, Kevin! I'm more of an old school guy myself, even though I didn't grow up back then. I appreciate all the work that goes into an LS swap, but I like the simplicity of an old SBC. I'll be tuned in to see what's coming for your truck!

Re: 65Custom Build Thread
Thanks we should make a fair amount of progress just not sure how long it is going to take. Due to some health issues, I'm not actually doing this portion of the work, I have it at a shop where my best friend works so I know it is in good hands and things are done right or it is not done.

Just adding a couple pictures, a little more progress, as I the project gets older things change, I was going to do a third brake light at the roof top, but got concerned with how to do it and then how to replace it if it ever went out and seemed to be just be too many if's so I opted to put it back stock.
She is also getting a new roof skin, the old one was just too rusted for our liking and the donor skin would also require more work to put it back that the cost of a new one. Good side is I still have the donor if someone wants or needs one. |

Getting the Lizard Skin sprayed on, insulation and heat shield, under the roof skin and on top of the interior roof/headliner panel as well as the floor, firewall and back cab wall, you can tell it makes a difference, not as tin can sounding now, I just hoping it that it is enough to help with keeping it cool in the summer.

Re: 65Custom Build Thread
Glad to see you're back on it. I just dug my 65 out that my dad and I semi restored 19 years ago and have begun to work on it again also.
