I am quite jealous of you attending these shows.
Nicola suggested you find someone from the forums who is going, and attach yourself to the underside of their truck on the entry. Maybe a bit like this....... like an illegal alien :mm::mm::mm::mm: http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps0b11d2f1.jpg |

Good luck on your vacation and hunting trip! Incredible amount of progress considering the restricted time and space available to work in. Very impressive!

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Well I got my inner and outer rocker panels today . Just waiting to hear back from the Sandblasters on a cost for the cab. Once that has been done I can get on with the welding .

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
We have been looking at and discussing various ways to get Martins cab sand/media blasted. Mostly the prices were steep, so I said I would build a cabinet we can share. My compressor goes into the mix and Martin said he would buy the resevoir pot.
Posted a load of threads (same one copied and pasted) on some of the forums I go onto and got varied responses. Great response here on this board too. Link below..... TAKE A LOOK. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=634308 I HAVE ALSO DECIDED TO POST THE LINKS TO THE SAME THREAD ON OTHER FORUMS. AS A RESOURCE TO ALL OF US. Shows how different people approach the same problem. Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Aaaaarghh !!!
Fitting the 307 engine from a caprice which is an olds v8 in the truck is turning out to be a bit of a headache See thread http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=638072 Any advice welcome |
Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Well Rian came over to give me a hand today . I had already managed to get the engine in place but had a bit of a dilemma . The engine in the forward position missed the cab but the headers hit the wishbone and touched the chassis . With the engine in the rear position it missed the headers but it would mean cutting the bulkhead . Not wanting to cut the bulkhead the headers were going to have to be cut . The look on Rian's face when I got out the grinder was priceless . After cutting one pipe on each header and fitting them back on the engine we tried it in and it fitted . So we dummied up the pipes with cardboard tube ready to replace them with steel once a template was made .

Bloody right I was shocked at you cutting up perfectly, almost new headers.
But I now understand (well, almost) Thanks for coming over tonight to help get the Mazda ready for its yearly MOT roadworthy test. Looking forward to your new headers. |
Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Well I spent a couple of hours stripping the paint of my front grill, only to find a pretty good ally one under all that paint . I will have to dress up a couple of the dents that have just been filled instead of being repaired
As my grill was http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pse2bffc60.jpg After stripping off the paint http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psfc156251.jpg |

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Well as usual you make plans to do something and it all goes to pot . We took our dogs to the woods on Friday night and unknown to us one of our staffs Harry punctured the inside of his mouth . So getting up Saturday morning to find Harry's face all swollen meant no truck time but a trip to the vet , we then find out from the vet it's an Abscess and will need an operation to drain it . So about $800 and problem solved . The good news is he is ok just a big open wound on his neck to let it drain .
So Sunday morning up early to attach the engine mounts to the crossmember the first thing was to measure the distance between the the two mounts bolted to the engine . So I bolted some studding through the mounts to get the distance between the two points http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps5907d6d4.jpg I then got some flat bar steel and drilled out the 15 inch centres to keep them straight . I had already marked the crossmember but needed to keep the in place for drilling the crossmember http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps4b3f0cab.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps28c5fff3.jpg The next thing will be to refit the engine and fabricate a gearbox mount |
Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
The reason I only got half a day on the truck was I had planed to go to the ace café in London about a 50 mile trip each way in the afternoon with the other half as it was Harley Davidson day . So bike gear on ready to ride up to London loads of traffic and lots of filtering ( we are aloud to go up the middle of the lanes and filter between the traffic in the Uk ) here are some of the bikes

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Well I finally have 10 minuets to upload some of the pictures from my holiday
When I arrived at my hotel, I was informed my parts had arrived in reception. So I loaded them into my rental car and drove round to my room , only to find Don was in the room one over and below mine . So after saying hello to him and his wife myself and Amanda went up. To our room and crashed out after 17hrs getting there . In the morning I opened all the boxes the first was from POL and it contained my suspension parts http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps04c2f898.jpg The next box was from LMC and contained all the rubbers and fittings for the doors and front fender seals http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps70ebd24e.jpg Also from LMC was a cab light with a clear lense and the two inner repair panels for under the fenders http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps299e9e2d.jpg The other repair panels for the bottom of the fenders I picked up from Dennis Chevy parts in Tampa |
Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
While at Dennis Chevy parts I collected my radiator support and two good second hand inner fenders and my stainless steel inner rocker covers and a pair of inner fender seal retainers
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps8d452301.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps8bbe83f7.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psf9140078.jpg And Rian's parts http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psd5a96ccb.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps67e2d991.jpg The inner fenders and radiator support were dropped of to the shippers as they were to big to get in my case |
Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
The next few days (well most of the holiday if u were to ask Amanda ) consisted of collecting parts or going to shows
The remaining parts that I collected http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps317558ad.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps632df9a7.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psc6a53165.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps6d42142a.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps2413f850.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psbb5a3527.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps44529efe.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psef5d5c32.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psae423ee8.jpg I also got a free t shirt from POL thanks Guys great service http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps1c01de7a.jpg |

On our trip to Daytona we saw the same truck as last year as a prize in the raffle . The winner last year took the Corvett instead of the truck
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps912e6342.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psfbe7904d.jpg This is the other option for the prize http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps790b2029.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psdbdf4b39.jpg This is me and the very tolerant Amanda at Daytona beech http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps07e2a0fd.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps65cd18db.jpg |

While on holiday we went to the NSRA show and I managed to get away with two days there . As I've said before Amanda is very tolerant so the first day we walked around the swop meet and all the stalls . Here are some of the pictures
This was up for $3800 with a non running 305 http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps0c24f11c.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps86c4c0fd.jpg This was up for the same price a rare factory 3 door http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pse714ee77.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps2b3fe8d5.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps13290e83.jpg |

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Well the strip down has started . Before I went on my holiday I spent a couple of weekends sorting out the electrics in the car port . The reason is when I get home from work it's now dark as the clocks have gone back . So when I got home tonight I spent a couple of hours and stripped out the front suspension . The plan is to strip the front and rear suspension and axel so I can stand the chassis on its side in the garage . Then I can put the cab on its own in the car port and start the rust repairs . Once the cab is repaired with the panels I've acquired over the last few months and brought back from the states on my holiday .
