Re: My 52 GMC Build
It'll work for now at least. When you go to build piping, you could rotate the hx35 towards the fender well and just go through there and save a couple bends?

Finally got my fan today. 16" 1918 cfm. H.O. extreme, it is a really high cfm. So mount that on the rad brackets tomorrow and install rad, rad hoses, coolant. Turned over motor today to get oil pressure from sitting for a year. Then a bit of wiring (glow plugs, fuel pump) and If no problems start it up tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: My 52 GMC Build
dang, you make it sound so easy!
|
Re: My 52 GMC Build
Not easy but it helps I have no ignition.:D
|
Re: My 52 GMC Build
I see you got the fan, tomorrow should be a great day!
|
Re: My 52 GMC Build
That's an awesome fan man! You can't mistake the sound of an IDI cranking over! One of my favorite sounds from my early diesel days.

Well Saturday was a great day. Got fan mounted rad installed and filled took 19.5 liters of coolant. Did a bit of wiring, so I can sit inside to start the big beast and vroom :metal:
It sounds just like I was hoping (GREAT) http://youtu.be/4T4BF_z7Dtk -fan install -Waste-gate actuator -Me checking motor temp. Ran motor for about half an hour. Attachment 1410165 Attachment 1410166 Attachment 1410167 |

That sounds scary awesome! Great fab work too. Really enjoying tagging along.

Thanks AD

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Just loving this build more and more. Love the visual with flexible induction hoses that appear to breath with the motor. If you haven't named this monster yet, I thinking "BANE" would be a good choice for this big beast.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
It sounds awesome! Be careful when you shut the hood and lay on the skinny pedal. With how much rise you're getting out of your charge air hoses, I could see a new dent in your hood.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Great Video! The Beast is Alive ! :gmc2::gmc2:

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Sounds great! Be on the road in no time with the pace you're at.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Thanks everyone!! I pulled it outside last night and had it running for about half an hour sound even better outside. I'm ready for the car show on Sunday, in Paris Ontario called the Unfinished Nationals. But I'm still trying to get more stuff done before then.

Made some stake pockets last night just got them tacked on and ran out of welding gas. 2x2 1/8" wall tube look good I think. Also some outside pics.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Cool idea on the stake pocket. Truck should be a hit at the car show!

Because my box is 2" longer than a short box and my rear fenders are a little farther back than stock. I was thinking should I add a middle stake pocket bar like the long box has, something like this. yes or no? What do you guys think?

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Unless needed for strength I think one looks good. That would leave some open space for something you might want to add later possibly....sign, pinstripe, something...
|
Re: My 52 GMC Build
I like the second stake pocket. I also like seeing a spare tire there too.
|
Re: My 52 GMC Build
Too cool man! Awesome!

Sorry 99 no spare tire on this truck :burnout:
Not sure about pockets I'll have a better look at the car show. So yesterday I ordered my custom axle shafts from Moser. Ordered the stainless steel for my gas tank. Put 4L of gear oil in the diff and slapped in the headlights. Attachment 1411556 |
Re: My 52 GMC Build
no on the second stake pocket. with the bed being 2" longer, people will notice something different, but most likely wont be able to "see" the difference. a 2nd pocket would tell them what is different.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Found this article about a '49 burbin on a tahoe frame. Might be an idea for the burbin guys?

Re: My 52 GMC Build
I shortened my 3/4 ton box, and left the second stake pocket. Most people notice something is different but don't understand what it is. I like that it stands out from the crowd. Check out my photos, maybe that will help you decide.

The car show was Great, but I'll start off by showing what I got done Friday.
Built my rear cab support bridge. Then added supports to mount the center seat. The bars are angled like that because my seats are offset. Made another tranny cross member to support the front of the shifter. Seat folded down it's my armrest. Attachment 1413480 Attachment 1413481 Attachment 1413482 Attachment 1413483 |

So the car show was amazing. I had more ppl around my truck all day long than any other vehical there:metal:. Out of 800 or so cars I won Best Lead Sled :bann:
Definition: In automotive usage, a lead sled is a hot rod consisting of a heavily modified stock vehicle. Getting pulled into the show with the motor running was great (like I was driving);) Attachment 1413492 Attachment 1413493 Attachment 1413494 Attachment 1413495 Attachment 1413497 |

congrats, its hard to find time to take away from a build to go to a show sometimes. But usually always worth it in the end.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Nice work and congrats on the award! I'm sure that felt good to get!

Re: My 52 GMC Build

So a great day today. Got a phone call from the guys who ran car show. I guess I left early because he told me I also won Vehicle of the year. I said really, are you kidding.:metal: I get a trophy for a year and then a plaque next year when the trophy goes back. I'll get details when I get the trophy. The truck's not even done yet ;)

I picked up the stainless steel I'm making the fuel tank with. Time to fire up the tig. It's 16ga. The 2 pieces for the tank are on top of each other the smaller pieces are for baffles and mounting.
