Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates
Yes it will work.
Once you remove the factory mounting bracket all GM hydroboosts are interchangeable. Quote:

I will be converting my 62 Corvette to Hydroboost so will your bracket fit the firewall mounting bolts where the stock M/C is located?
Here is the HB unit I am using, it came from a 2000 ford GT so I guess I will need the Nut removal tool also, what else will I need? |
Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates
Sorry but I have no idea what the firewall hole pattern is for the master cylinder on a '62 Vette. If by chance it was the same as these hydroboost mounting plates, you would still have to enlarge the center hole a bit. These plates are intended to be used with my booster brackets so that no modification to the firewall is necessary. that also maintains a good solid connection between the booster/master and the pedal bracket as GM designed it to be.

Thanks,
I will wait until I get the car back and take some measurements and pics. |

Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates
Looks Great! I like the look of the flat plate directly on the firewall instead of the use of the adaptor bracket. Any more pictures? What did you do to the pedal and linkage to make the connection?
|
Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates
That looks much better than the old booster and bracket sticking out into the engine bay.

Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates
I have an 89 Suburban V1500 I am doing hydroboost on, so I am in the market for a bracket/plate assembly.
I have a hydroboost from a 99 silverado I plan on using but the mounting between the two is fairly different. Heres the hydroboost I have: http://i.imgur.com/B9vdQZK.jpg The issue I have is that two of the holes on the firewall (and on the pedal assembly) are to the sides of the larger push rod hole and not above it. Also, there are 6 bolts on the booster, two up at the very top, that I assume I just wouldn't need anymore. Here is a picture of my firewall to get a better idea: http://i.imgur.com/Gvulyo6.jpg Is this a part you make or can make? |
Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates
All you need is a factory hydroboost mounting plate for a '73-'86 C/K or a '87-'91 R/V truck, Suburban or Blazer. Then just remove the factory '99 mounting bracket and install the earlier one. As for connecting to the pedal, some fabrication may be needed. I'm not sure as I have not done anything like this. It would likely be a whole lot easier to just get a '73-'86 C/K or '87-'92 R/V hydroboost and bolt it up.

I've never seen the bracket for sale by itself, which I think would look like this: https://imgur.com/a/HUH6U I could buy the pump with the plate for $180+$60 core+ I'd still need the proper res and I think the pedal is still wrong so I'd have to modify that or replace it as well. If you happen to know where to locate a plate like that, awesome. Otherwise perhaps you could just sell me the plate and the bracket sans mounting holes, I could drill them myself. |
Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates
Yes that is what the correct mounting plate looks like. Have you checked the '73-'87 classifieds here on the forum for a hydroboost? If you were to purchase a rebuilt hydroboost for a '89 V2500 from your local auto parts store, it should come with the bracket.
Of the 3 standard booster brackets I make, I don't know if any of them would work in your application. I do not drill any holes. All of my parts are CNC laser cut, which includes all the holes. Quote:

Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates
Here is a truck with a complete hydroboost unit, master cylinder and all. You could likely get everything you need from this one source.

Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates
So will this bracket work with a 2000 GMC 2500 hydroboost unit?
A friend is swapping a 6.0 and 4l80 out of a 2000 GMC 2500 into his 1971 El Camino and the GMC has hydro boost. I am trying to help him figure out if we can make it work. Thanks, Andy |
Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates
All GM hydroboost units that I have seen are all the same once you remove the factory mounting bracket. So yes, this hydroboost mounting plate will work on a 2000 model year hydroboost once the factory bracket is removed. As for mounting it to the '71 El Camino firewall, you will either have to open up the center hole and drill holes for the mounting plate, or fabricate a booster bracket similar to what I make for the '60-'72 trucks.

Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates
What determines the HB pedal rod displacement distance? Does the m/c dictate that or does the HB pedal rod have its own unique travel length? Would seem like the m/c should be the determining factor - I'm retrofitting a HB and need to determine what my pedal travel should/needs to be. -Bob

Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates
Sorry but I'm not understanding what you mean by 'pedal rod displacement distance'? As for connecting the hydroboost pushrod to the brake pedal, you will probably want something in the neighborhood of a 4:1 ratio.

Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates
I do not have that answer. I have not installed a hydroboost yet and I do not have an operational one to measure. I am not in the business of working on cars and trucks for others and no time for any of my own with working 80 hrs a week.

Captainfab.
Here are the pictures of my hydroboost from mcgaughys. I also included pictures of my 64 c10 fire wall. Do I buy your bracket, unbolt the bracket on my hydroboost, bolt your bracket on, then mount it to the fire wall? Or do I just use the bracket that came with my hydroboost and re drill it to match the fire wall? I just installed your PS adapter plate and worked out perfect. Thank you. Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates
The picture you posted isn't a hydroboost, that is power brakes via vacuum. You simply bolt that to the firewall as you have it. Hydroboost uses hydraulic pressure via the power steering pump, not vacuum.

Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates
As stated by by doublebeetx, that is a vacuum booster noot a hydroboost. To mount that vacuum booster to your firewall you need one of my booster brackets shown in this fro sale thread.
http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=339081 However I do not know what the mounting stud pattern is on that booster. You will have to check that and see if it is the same as the holes in my booster brackets. |
Re: Hydroboost Mounting Plates
I should have known that you (captainfab) has already built a adapter plate for the hydro boost conversion. I just did this swap on my dodge cummings truck which will later become a 65 chevy cab on the dodge frame.
