Weekly update!! Spent the weekend tieing up loose ends on the outside of the burb. My biggest job was to cut out and reweld the roof joint. What an emasculating endeavor! That was the hardest thing ive ever welded. I had to cut this thing twice due to oil canning the roof. Oh well, its done...

That does not look like a fun job...
Nice work

Not much to report this weekend. All i did was weld the floor and firewall. I also stripped the paint from the inside of the two front doors. Man, that factory paint is really stuck on there. Aircraft stripper barely touched it!

Thanks man!!! I got really lucky!

Heres the story: my wife and two daughters went on a week long disney cruise and left me at home to work on my truck in solitude. The week went ok, i didnt get as far as i wanted, but made good progress.

Sunday afternoon comes and im stripping paint off of the inner window trim with a wire wheel attachment on an angle grinder. It seems that one of the wire bristles flies off, bounces off my shoulder, flies past my full face shield AND glasses and hits me in the right eye. My eye immediately starts to bleed inside (the white part).

Went to the emergency room, after 6 hours, i got a tetanus shot and an xray.

The swelling in down, and looks much worse than it is, but i got lucky guys.

Heres a pic, i hope this isnt too graphic:

Glad to hear you are going to be okay. Yeah about half of the time I end up with something in my eye is when I have all my eye protection on. Stuff just bounces around and finds that little slit of an opening.

In for the build. Incredible work. Also, I again am reminded why safety glasses are a *must*. Far to often I don't bother.

I think the eye looks pretty cool. Kinda like those prisoners that tattoo their eyes. lol I had a wire from a wire wheel stuck in my toe for 6 weeks a couple of years ago. Now I never go barefoot in the garage.

Re: 1966 Suburban...Sort of...Trailblazer SS SWAP

So, this is your lame excuse for not getting the interior into paint???
LOL! Just kidding!!!
A face shield & safety glasses are definitely a must when using a twisted wire brush with a grinder.
I did the entire bottom of my cab, inner fenders, and inside of the box sides this way in the heat of summer. I can remember being in the shower several hours after the fact, and finding wires sticking out of my chest, and in my shins!
You can never have too much protection!
Good thing that you are O.K!

Re: 1966 Suburban...Sort of...Trailblazer SS SWAP

Thanks for the positive comments guys. Im gonna get back at it this weekend. I felt like it was appropriate to take a break for a few days and let my body heal. Truth is, i completely wore myself out last week and needed to step back. My knees, fingers and obviously eye were wasted.

Funny thing, i found a wire embedded in my belly, about an inch deep when i was at the ER. I never felt it prior to that. I guess i was so worried about my eye, i didn't notice. Good thing i got a tetanus shot!

Just saw this, you got lucky.

I wear glasses too, but it just shows you, even with a visor, **** can happen.

Glad your eye is OK.

Re: 1966 Suburban...Sort of...Trailblazer SS SWAP

Thanks for the concern, fellas!

Im fine, i just look like i have pinkeye!!

All i have left to prep is the steering wheel. I jb welded up the cracks earlier today, ill sand and prime tomorrow.

Saturday, ill be painting all the interior parts. Then sunday ill spray the Raptor Liner on the floor.

Hopefully i will be able to start putting this heap back together next week!
