Nice progress and yes it is a great work out. At least when your pushing a broom you can stand up.

Thanks Alan. I've been following your build and I have to say it's probably the fastest build on the site right now. You've definitely made some progress in the last few months. I can't wait to see the pics of your truck on the road and something tells me it won't be long.

Same here (following your build), and thanks. I beg to differ on mine getting done soon. My money tree died. :whine::haha:

At least we're in the same boat then. My money tree has been dead since the end of 07'. Tough times but things look like they're getting better out here in Vegas anyway. And besides, block sanding doesn't cost too much so I've been making progress without spending a lot. You may have noticed my truck is still on jack stands. That's because I can't afford to get it rolling yet. I'm hoping by the end of summer. We'll see.

Ive been on the same misssion.....sanding. My whole driveway is just about grey now. Im finding, or remembering, that the bedsides have a very tricky contour in the transitions from the fender down. Your progress is looking good....you must be downing a bunch of ibuprofen too:lol:. I dont know why someone would do this for a job.

It does go fast sometimes if you have the money. Look when Allan started.
He has made some really nice progress.

Don't let that filler get on your lawn, it will kill it. It gets everywhere whether you like it or not I guess. I only get a few hours a week on the truck now so I turn into a sanding maniac. There's just a dust cloud constantly blowing out of my garage when I'm in there. I'm getting close to priming but still need to strip the rest of the cab and passenger door--not to mention the entire MGA. I need more time and money. Does that sound familiar?

I'm with you on the gravel. I think we have similar landscaping. Everything just blends right in after a while.

Thanks Joe. Same to you and keep up the progress pics on your ladies truck. It's looking good. Sounds like you have plenty of help with the whole family involved. I wish I had a few extra hands around here sometimes.

I don't even have gravel. Just sand. But with no weeds. I finally have them under control.:uhmk:

It's very nice... I landed up in the perfect family. Lisa's brothers and I can talk cars/trucks from morning to night, and every one of us is up to our neck in projects...

If I was still in the big 'H', I would be there to give you a hand. Next time I go that way I'll let you know... We would love to see the shrunken66 in person...:metal:

I'm about as far away from Hendo as you can get in the Vegas valley but you're welcome over any time Joe. Maybe when my truck is done we can meet in the middle at a show. How far is Phoenix from you? I think it's five hours from Vegas. We'll have to hook up with Dino, Protrash and any other Arizonans down there at some point. I'll bring the Bud Light.

That was the deciding factor not to Z my frame. It would have taken up extra beer space in the bed. I also removed the in cab tank to fit a few more cases as well. Some might even say I should have left it a shlong bed, but I know where to draw the line.

Oooooooooooooo Burn! It takes a shlong bed to get the job done. That thing you got is so short you couldn't hit the bottom of a tuna can but I bet you could scrape the chet outa the sides. I will admit you do good work though.

We are about 6-7 hours away from Phoenix. That sounds like a fun trip! We'll have to plan something out. When you're close to getting done we'll get it together...

P.S. Don't pay attention to Jason's shortbed/longbed comments... I think he's trying to compensate for something..

shrunken66stroker

I know your way past this stage but what did you use to strip your truck. I see everyones look like this at some point but what are yall use would be a great help. The only reason i ask is its time to start stripping the old 66 bbw.

I have a 4 inch gringer/palm sander/drill/ and 2 good elbows lol. what grit paper did you find works best? any chemicals?

One day i hope mine can look half as good.

shrunken66stroker 07-27-2009 02:14 PM

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

Thanks you guys. That stance is how it sits when it's aired completely out. It's about 5 inches taller when full but doesn't look half as good.

The bare metal look is the result of mostly 80 grit on a DA sander. I also used paint and rust stripping discs on a grinder. I used wire wheels for the tight spots but never any stripper on this truck. I also have a sand blaster that I used on the frame. It's in bare metal too. I was scared to use the blaster on the panels because of potential warpage. I only had one coat of paint on my truck, luckily. The DA sander works well unless there's multiple coats. You'll need time and soap as well. Good luck apache!
