Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R
Ok, I'm sure someone will not like that we are off topic on the build, but I'm still chuckling about that Monday comment.

It’s my thread, I’ll say what I want! Glad you appreciate my humor

Built the Transmission tunnel today
Wanted to get it done before we ran the fuel line (fire hazard, ask me how I know) all tacked in, ready to seam seamed and leaksealed The floors are officially done, ready for sound deadener, jute padding, and carpet! |

Here痴 the engine shot of the chassis
we took apart the rear brakes to inspect them. The right rear wheel cylinder is blown and leaked brake fluid all over the shoes, ruining them We started out to undercoat the whole frame, but ran out, will pick some more up tomorrow Got the modified Transmission crossmember tacked and ready to seam weld tomorrow |
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R
It is coming together nicely.
How did you bend the tranny cover? Also, what brand of wheels are those? |
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R
8man-I used a piece of 4” PVC 2' long to form the tunnel.
The wheels are Boyd Coddington |
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R
Thanks. Old fashioned ingenuity on bending that roll for the tranny cover.
|
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R
Thanks

Not many pictures today, but lots accomplished
We finished painting the frame today Built the offset drop blocks for the rear, tomorrow we値l install the drop Finish welded the Transmission crossmember Worked on fabricating the AC lines for the cowl |
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R
Looks like you and the guys are working well together. Things are moving.
If you don't mind, I'd like to see the AC hose routing from stem to stern. I did the Vintage Air on the 48, but don't really like the hoses running through the firewall and was thinking about something like what you are doing for my 54. |

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R
What unit are you using, and I see the lines going through the side to get inside the fender, but I've never seen how they get mounted and run back through to the compressor and the coil.

Thanks. When you get that far, please post pictures, especially the bracket you are making.

we got the transmission crossmember complete today
And photographic proof that the frame is fully painted Tomorrow we build the motor mounts and finish up those AC lines to get after bodywork, I知 hoping to have the cab in paint before the new year |
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R
In paint, now that's moving along!
|
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R
That’s the goal
|
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

Looks pretty good next we started building motor mounts |

Then we put it on the ground to check out the new stance!
Looks much better lower! |
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R
That looks great.
I missed it earlier, what bracket is that on the LS? It looks wide, does it fit or will the inner fenders need some custom work? |
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R
The bracket fits in the inners. It’s an ICT billet bracket
|
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R
Thank you.

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

Today we built the motor mounts and put the new 10.5mm plug wires on
Then we put the motor in the chassis for the final time! Next week we start getting it ready to run and buttoning up bodywork on the cab |
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

We took out a dent along the beltline. It was a PITA!
Next we finished up the AC hoses And buttened up the passenger cowl. We did cut an access hole in the kick panel which we値l cover it when we do the interior. |
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R
Do you have some type of grommet around the hoses where they go into the kick panel? It looks like you drilled a hole with a hole saw.
|
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R
yes, the grommet we ordered didn’t work, so we wound up lining the hole with door edge guard
|
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

Some of the bodywork done before us was not to hot. So as a result the metal got really thin and wavy near the edge. When we ground down our welds it burned through in a couple places. we will use Duraglass (fiberglass hair impregnated filler) to try to rebuild the door opening
|
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

Next we ground everything smooth
we did some work to the beltline and A-pillar Sanded down the left cowl And applied the first coat of filler to the right |
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R
nice work man!
|
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R
Thanks joedoe!
|
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R
What kinda paint is that blue? Looks great.
|
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R
That sucks about the door opening edge. Are you using a flap disc? I find them great for rough work but they flex a bunch so around an edge or a body line you gotta be real careful. Same when grinding the high spots off a weld, it's easy to also bring the surrounding sheet metal and then you have a thin spot. They heat the metal up around the weld you are grinding down and it oil cans a bit so the surrounding sheet metal is easy to find itself high and get flap disced a bit.
|
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R
That’s Hot Rod Flatz "speed blue” we did use a flap, I think the Duraglass will do the trick
|
Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

so today was all about getting the engine ready to run
we cleaned and installed the valley cover and knock sensor harness Then we construct an AN line and installed AN adapters for the high pressure power steering line And we installed the ETC |

And bolted down the intake |
