Great looking burb.:metal: That screams hotrod.
I've enjoyed reading the thread. I noticed on your back bumper the two dimples. Attachment 500530 Is this a burb bumper or is it a fleetside bumper? I have the same one on my panel but it is not chromed. |
Re: 1964 Suburban Pics

Here's the fender I've been working on for awhile. This is when I first got it and it looks better now...no pics, but I thought I'd throw it in here anyway. I'm determined to have it live again:lol: |

Here's the fender Ive been pounding on....getting ready to patch the lower corner. Still debating if its worth the work but I'm going to forge ahead.
Soaked and polished up the centercaps and bolted those on, too. |
Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
I think it is worth it to bring back the original metal, and it is nothing but experience for you
Centers look nice! :metal: |

Got my leak fixed Friday nite. Yet to test, but I'm sure its good this time: much tighter on the fittings.
Another thing on the list is the stereo. I originally had a kick-butt stereo and have since robbed stuff for my DD. I didnt like my kick panels because the speakers set too low. I started making up new ones today....I'm able to get them going quickly 'cuz I use some plastic kick panels for the rough shape. I destroyed my old panels to get the wooden piece out and re-use it. I will be deleting the kick vents, too. I never found them useful except for blowing crap off the floor and into my eyes! Will glass them soon. Searching for an engine also........ |
Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
Right on!!!
We are planning on deleting the vents also, the benefit of them is outweighed by the crud in the eyes factor  |

Is'nt that the truth! I thought I was the only one. How do you seal them from the elements? |
Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
Love the build. Guess I know where to come when I need to hook up my bags.:metal:

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
I'm thinking about welding a bowl in there and using the space to mount some speakers, but it is probably kinda high.
might have to mount some mid-bass speakers there..... |

Tested my valves today and they work great..no leaks. I pumped up the valves and left the truck sitting there and it didnt move. Looks funny as hell though! Looks about a foot higher. Here are the kick panels with the resin. I need to let them dry and then do some bodywork to them to get them smooth. They turned out better than my last set. Two different colors cuz I used two different T-shirts:lol: |
Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
NICE :metal:

Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
You just use cotton T's?
|
Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
Sweet man !!
What are you using on your threads ? Please don't say Teflon tape (?!?) |

I knew everyone used fleece, didn't know cotton T's would work as well. I got some things I need to build, well practice first.

.......OK.....been awhile being that I've been working on the pickup. I'm going to continue my bodywork/paint while shifting gears to do some more work on the 'burb. I'm trying to make the March Goodguys show in Scottsdale; its the timeframe, not the drive:lol:!! I finished the kick panels and have a stereo and thats where I stopped working as I was sidelined by a few things ($$$$$).
I'm back on track and starting a new phase for the 'burb. Engine time!!!:metal:.......picked up a running 454 and a T400. Pulled from a 73 pickup. I will go with the 700r4 but took the tranny as a spare. I pulled the stuff and out comes a damn near brand new trans!!!! Anyway, here are the picks...a little grimy, but a smooth solid running engine. Also notice the aftermarket A/C compressor....made by Tehcumsah ???? Thats what the tag shows. It's already cleaned up some and will be getting a re-seal and a serp kit that I've had for years. |
Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
Cool! you got your big block :metal:
That A/C compressor looks a lot like a York.....some guys turn the Yorks into air compressors for various uses....just a little FYI. |

I tore down the external components last nite and blasted the engine so its looking better. I'm going back today to get a brand new ms/cyl that was on the truck. It should be a good match for the hydro boost. |
Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
Yeah I've never heard of a Tehcumsah compressor either, just small engines.
|
Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
IIRC, Tecumseh made York clones or re-manned Yorks.
they are the same compressors. The '73 that John and I tried to part out had the very same set up. |
Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
jeff i have a complete belt drive air compressor set up if you need one, let me know

Ok....thought I would post up some of the parts I'm dealing with here. The engine is torn down for cleaning and gaskets. I'm getting ready to paint it soon.
Here is my BBC serp set-up which I need to figure out. I dont know how it all goes together:lol:..I'm sure I'll get there. Also my mounts and stands. Also scored some *****in' Sanderson cast headers. These will have no clearance issues; very tite to the block. Lastly are my hydroboost parts along with Cap'n Fabs brackets. |
Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
Wow man!
Cool parts! I especially dig those headers :metal: |
Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
protrash, how do you plan on making the engine perches work. I have a pair of those and they were a little to high of the top of the frame. I had to put my 3 point perches back on.

I dont have SB mounts available, just hacked up 292 mounts currently. If I have to, I guess I'll go aftermarket or make some up. I'll definitely post it up 'cuz I cant find exactly how this works anywhere on the website. |
Re: 1964 Suburban Pics
how much lift do you get with the bag aired all the way up
