Re: #3 The Sickness Continues
From living in the desert I know that 40*C roughly equals 100*F. Seems like THHN would work just fine.
I wonder what the rating is on the stuff from Autozone.:smoke: I have also seen some DC auto amperage charts and most THHN would be overkill in a car as far as I'm aware. |

Threw on some gas shocks last weekend and then used 'em for the first trip to Home Depot this morning. I'm expanding some shade in the backyard as the summer is approaching!!!

It was fun!!! Made three trips this weekend and it was great to drive the '66. It's funny loading up stuff next to the sea of Duramax and Superduty trucks.

I haven't been on here lately 'cuz I've been working out of town and doing yard projects.....the '66 has hauled a bunch of stuff but the speedo hasn't worked so I decided to fix it.
Picked up a cluster from hickuppickup(Rob) and tore mine out. I found it was working; just that the needle was in 3 pieces inside the housing. I ended up swapping just the odometer and speedo portion to my cluster as I liked my temp gauge better; it has 2 curved blue lines as opposed to 1 blue straight line. I also know all the stuff works, too. Painted up the pointers and am now painting the bezel silver. My bezel is really warped!!....how does that happen?? Anyway, here are a few pics...next is the heater control. |
Re: #3 The Sickness Continues
Glad to see an update!

This truck has been very reliable and a lot of fun to drive around. I'm waiting for fall and some temps to moderate so I can work on more truck projects. |

New dash bezel; doesn't fit. The locating pins are too large and need to be filed down. You may need to enlarge the holes in the gauge tin cover. I also filed the edge of the plexi to fit in the new bezel. FYI. Also, the wiper switch in Classic Industries catalog doesn't tell you that it has the button for the washer. It does, its pictured correctly. Works good too! I ordered the knobs with stainless to match my cig lighter. They are not exact copies of the original but fine for me. Just letting everyone know as some people like things completely original. We all know how this re-pop stuff is... Here are pics of the parts. Painted the bezel Duplicolor chrome which looks like aluminum to me. Polished the plexi with plastic polish to get out the scratches and cleaned all the dirt out. Reassembled and see what it looks like. Nice to hear this fire up after a month of sitting...just need to check the dash lights when it gets darker. I will be driving around this weekend |
Re: #3 The Sickness Continues
Looks great man!! Nice job!!

Re: #3 The Sickness Continues
Thanx!! The speedo works and it appears Im in business.
After doing this I had an idea. I would like to use the button on the wiper switch to activate a washer pump in a newer style washer bottle. Anybody think of a bottle that would lend itself to being adapted to a 60-66 underhood area? I had a '90 p/u with the set-up Im thinking of and wonder if it would work. Chime in if you can think of one. |
Re: #3 The Sickness Continues
If it will fit, it will work. The one in mine is out of an 85-91 Blazer/Suburban/Old body style P/U. You can also get a universal pump kit that puts a pump inline to your squirters. Your call on which one would work best, but it is some food for thought in case you find a reservoir that will work, but it doesn't have a pump in it, you can go with the universal inline pump.

Re: #3 The Sickness Continues
On my '66 Suburban I used the original reservior, but added a '85 full size van washer pump. In the van, the pump clips onto the reservior bracket. So I added an area on the bracket on my Suburban to mount the pump, and connected the inlet side of the pump to the feed tube/cap on the reservior. I just powered it with a momentary toggle on the dash since at the time I couldn't figure out how to make it work with the factory switch. I have since found the info on how to do that, but I haven't had the time. Heck I haven't been able to drive my Burb since last summer :(

Re: #3 The Sickness Continues
Excellent Cap'nfab!!! Just what I was thinking. Something simple and straight forward. I havent messed with the switch yet, but I figured I'd have it actuate a relay. Maybe the pump doesnt draw much??
I remember seeing a thread for a replacement tank but dont know what it was. I'm thinking the tank was the same as a Camaro, or something like that. I have spent no time searching any catalogs; I'll post if I find it. |
Re: #3 The Sickness Continues
protrash remember to post pictures too! i was wondering how do add windshield washers to my truck, just havent done any searching either, just a lot of thinking, lol!!
|
Re: #3 The Sickness Continues
You don't need a relay. The pump doesn't draw much and the contacts in the switch are huge compared to what is actually needed. This is long before the auto companies realized they can make things crappier, then sell more replacement parts.

I did find in Classic Industries catalog these items: bracket, jar, and cap. They also have a complete kit but no picture. Also listed are pumps from '64-'04. looks like this is going to happen!!!!:metal: |

OK, update. Figured I'd call about the universal stuff and this is what I got!! Went to O'reilly's and they had a kit, ANCO brand (they also make wipers). It has a bottle with pump, new switch, wiring, and hoses. 40 bucks......no brainer for me. The switch is under the plastic bag with the 2 copper lines they supply in case one needs to make their own squirters. I may need to get a 'T' fitting and thats about it. Next I have to sort out the switch and wire from the stock set-up.

Not really a truck update, but sort of...... heres a pic of the '66 bringing home the new air compressor so I'll be able to spray some love on the other two trucks.:metal: It's got enough capacity for spraying and its relatively inexpensive as far as compressors go. 60 gallon, 11cfm@40psi. Perfect for me. May finally have some updates on the other threads in the coming months.
And by the way, still havent put in a switch for the windsheild wiper spray set-up!! |
Re: #3 The Sickness Continues
You're going to love your compressor. I hooked my up with about 40 feet of 3/4" steel pipe. I sloped it down and put a drain on the end and some air taps off of that. Works great no water.:smoke: The tap I use for painting I also run through a watercollector and filter. Looks like another good use for the creeper board. My dog uses mine for a skate board.

Re: #3 The Sickness Continues
Sweet, almost looks like mine :metal:
Nice to see the truck work'n. I'm putting mine to work tomorrow :sumo: . |

Wanted to say that you have a great daily driver here! Keep driving and improving it over time. I also think it is great that you got a new air compressor. Hope your new year goes well!

Re: #3 The Sickness Continues
Nice work! How are those 4" drop springs working with heavy loads?
I am thinkin about dropping my '64 with those in the rear, but still haul my bike and stuff around town, don't want it bottoming out. Thanks. |

I think I would seriously consider putting in bags with a compressor, or dont go this low. |
Re: #3 The Sickness Continues

I'll have to look into 2" drop springs in the rear with 2" drop spindles up front then. |
