Finally i can update! My painter called and said he was ready for my jimmy. He wanted me to bring it by so he could touch up the A-pillar where i had the supports when it was on the rotisserie. Since he is only a few miles from me i drove it to his shop. I got some crazy looks driving this thing down the road. I can't believe how well it drives. It shifted and ran great. I guess my front end alignment with a tape measure worked out good and i just need to adjust the drag link a bit so the steering wheel will be straight.

I also picked up my fenders and doors. They got the block sanded and primed along with the jambs painted. So i spent the weekend taping them off so i could put the Raptor Liner on the insides of the doors and fenders.

Well it has been kind of slow going lately. But i did happen to get a windshield and install it. I read a lot of horror stories of installing it with the 72 trim so i watched the Precision video online. I tried it their way of starting at the top and working down but i could not get it to go in. It seem the gravity was working against me. On the second attempt i started at the bottom and work up and it was way easier. Any way here is a couple shots of it installed.
I am now out of things to do until i get it painted. I talked to my painter and he said it was going to be a couple more weeks until he can get it in. Oh well i just want it done before spring. |

Going to be Awesome!

Re: Project "It's a Jimmy Thing"
I'm sure it's in here somewhere, but the reason for the raptor liner on the inside of the panels is for... ? It looks really cool, just not sure I understand the function.

Re: Project "It's a Jimmy Thing"
Early in your build thread you blasted your frame, rears and transfer. What type of blaster and media did you use? If you did this in your shop how large is your compressor?
Thanks Oh and AWSOME build! |

For the frame, fenders, doors and the bigger items i used a local blast shop that rents a blast booth by the hour. They supply the black magic media and the equipment. I think that it was like $20.00 an hour. For all of the small stuff and the axles i bought a cheap harbor freight blaster. It was not ideal but it worked. I got black magic media from tractor supply and did it at home. i waited until i had a nice day and did it out in the lawn. It would make a serious mess in the shop. Here is a link to the blaster http://www.harborfreight.com/portabl...kit-37025.html Here is a link to the media http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/stor...ng-media-50-lb And here is a link to my compressor. It just barely kept up with the blaster. http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/stor...pressor-80-gal |

It is finally all one color again. They just need to paint the tailgate and the inner fenders and I will bring it home. More pictures to come!

Re: Project "It's a Jimmy Thing"
Looks good, I'm going to be doing a really similar color on mine.

After seeing how nice the paint is i have some concerns with the grill that i cleaned up and painted. I just really don't want a repop. I decided to paint the inside of it. I guess it is one of those things that if a get the truck all together and it really bothers me it is easy enough to swap out. |
Re: Project "It's a Jimmy Thing"
Just curious is that Silver Ice Metallic (AKA: Switchblade Silver)?
|
Re: Project "It's a Jimmy Thing"
It is Corvette Blade Silver Metallic.

I actually found some Dodge colors that I liked when i was trying to pick a color but, in the end i think that it would be a sin to put Dodge paint on a GMC! |

Re: Project "It's a Jimmy Thing"
Just curious, did you struggle over the core support color? As you know, I'm planning on that color as well and also planning an aluminum radiator (and for mine anyway I'm also planning an aluminum AC condenser). I keep flipping back and forth as to whether I go black or body color on the core support.

Although, on a build like yours I think that it would look good painted. |
Re: Project "It's a Jimmy Thing"
Yea I've been seriously leaning towards body color, basically everything between the radiator and fuel tank (except cross members, trailing arms and axel tubes) will be either raw stainless or raw aluminum.

I have started assembling some things. I put the rear splash guards in, hood letters on, headlight buckets in and raptor lined the inner fenders.

Coming out really nice. |
Re: Project "It's a Jimmy Thing"
Looking good, must be fun to work on it again. Was your GMC crooked on you hood?
