Re: 2wd swap
For my g-body Malibu, I opted for aftermarket alum hubs for similar reasons.
First, just being able to find someone that would do the work & even then I prob would have spent the same amount for older, heavier, iron hubs. I also went w/the billet hubs because for my app they were machined for the heavier-duty Camaro 1Le outer bearing vs stock. Win/win. I have KORE3 C10 billet hubs but I've had them since '06 when I helped him w/the C10 brake package he offers. Not sure what he gets for them these days. |
Re: 2wd swap
After jumping thru these hoops I see why people buy this stuff instead of fabricating it.
Although teaching my kid these lessons now may save him headaches in the future. |

Wheels came.
Calipers need about .100 thou though :/ kid wanted the 18" so we did those. But the rotor looks awesome in the barrel |
Re: 2wd swap
Planning a .125" spacer then?
|
Re: 2wd swap
If I can find a steel one.
I'm going by the kids measurements. Haven't actually seen them yet. Work keeps getting in the way of playing with the toys. I see a wilwood makes a .196 in 5x5 I haven't looked much further yet. |
Re: 2wd swap
Send Cut Send.
They can pop you out a set of spacers in the numbers you want within given material sizes. They did a set for my Model-A pretty quick & very decent price. |
Re: 2wd swap
Good to know.

Re: 2wd swap
Also reminded me we have a local cnc plasma guy local

Re: 2wd swap
Hay SCOTI, what hub did you use?
Went to pound stud thru ours last night and split the old rotor hub next to the stud. Insert unhappy guy |

I heard of the g-body guys have the same/common issue after milling their hubs. Trick is to do the studs before & minimize the dimensions for the press fit (some guys were using too large of a knurl). I also verified the 18x8 Rocket cleared a C6 caliper & Z51 13.4" rotor. A buddy of mine said Weld Wheels is making a cheaper cast/flow-formed line of wheels. I looked them up but the BS options were limited vs. the Rockets. |
Re: 2wd swap
We took .200 too much off.
Or .400 total. The knurl was wrong by a couple thou And also learned the snout of the hub gets into the wheel center. Gonna buy a new rotor and try again. The kore3 is based around corvette stuff, I don't know if our camaro stuff is the same |
Re: 2wd swap
Also our cast iron hub snout doesn't fit thru the wheel center.
And won't fit without a 3/8 spacer. The snout and caliper hit. |

Motivation has been lacking, but redo X2.
Also since finding our right quarter is junk, we have rounded up another and that's next. |

The gov lock did its normal thing.
This is the 2nd time the 12 bolt gave up. Couldn't believe the amount of hate the 9in replacement got. Didn't know the gm fan boys where that way. |

He knew the issues with the gov bomb.
Also don't suppose the donuts spun had anything to do with it. Lol |

Kid surprises me again.
Cal trac housing bracket won't cooperate with the dual shock brackets. Because pre runner stuff. So he downloaded fusion 360 Tuesday. Sends me this Wednesday |
Re: 2wd swap
Man.... How cool would it have been to have tools like this that one-time I was a young-gun?

After a complete failure with the local guy, sendcutsend.com blew us away.
Kid left a .010 tolerance and it fit together so well that it needed a love tap to take apart for the final fit up |

Brother's on vacation.
Back on the K5 my son's got the fusion360 working pretty well I think. Since we sectioned the crossmember 1.5 inches then raised the upper pivot the same trying negate some bumpsteer and got only a 2° camber change thru the usable travel. He drew us up a new upper pivot that's 1.75 taller than stock and created an access hole for the airbag fittings. May also ad in a coil over mount into it. |

And with any caster in the shim stack it bends the stud overvwhen flange nut is tight. And looks better than the factory stuff. |
