Re: Project Cod Fish

Hey guys the truck will have 2.5 drop spindles 1 inch springs in front, 4 inch springs in back. It will have the same stance as "project copperhead". I havent nailed down a color yet but it will be anything but stock. I had planned on a 6.0 ls motor, but I have a shot at a really good deal on a 572 gmpp, we will just have to see if it works out. I really want to make this a Retro Rod Truck. I want it to have most of the latest goodies, while retaining the look and feel of old school. I dont think you can improve the body lines of these trucks, as they are PERFECT. The rear end has a 3:42 posi in it. If this build has nothing else I know that it has the best metal work that can possible be done. Thanks Eb.

Thank you everyone for the compliments. The replacement roof skin was a good fit with the exception that it was a little short which left a wide area at the drip rail. The side view line was better than factory and the overall shape was good. To narrow up the drip rail I had to cut it off and grind down the the lip of the material where the metals came together, then weld the rail back on. Not hard and fairly straight forward. Here is a before and after shot of it.

idonutnO, hang tight for a bit. When I get this cab back to Rob I plan on going through all my photos and want to do an "anatomy of a cab" post that should be pretty cool. I'll show the cowl area as this is about the only area that I think could use some modification. This is why we went the way we did on this cab. Also it's what Rob wanted from the start. Seems we were thinking along the same line here :)

LIL update: Eb is working on the cab and windows, we are having some issues with the one piece windows from opp. I am glad I have eb to work them out... I dont think they would have turned out so well if not I will post some Pics when he gets closer.... Meanwhile I have been working on the front clip. I blasted the support, grill and hood down to bare metal the fenders were good. The hood will need alil attention but nothing Eb can't fix. I will be taking the clip up to Eb to fit and line up so it will be strait and ready.

Re: Project Cod Fish

Yea guys I got the cab home and i must say Eb did a great job. My best friend is doing the body work on the cab... not that there is much to do. I actually spent a couple days with Earl at his shop and I was amazed at how easy he made it look. He really knows these trucks. He is a great guy and his family was really good to me during my visit.... Had some of the best ribs, and asian food I ever ate. I will post some pics when i get it back next week from my friend. I am really excited at this point cause it is all starting to come together and will be the best truck I have ever built.

Hey ebfabman, did you have a chance to get some info together on the cowl area? I am REALLY interested in seeing how you wrapped this up.

I'm in the same boat, we are truly blessed with too much work, not enough time. In this poor economy our company has had it's best gross and margins since I've been there(2003). I hope it "trickles" down to me around bonus time since I'm on salary;)
Keep up the build!

Re: Project Cod Fish

Ok project has taken a little turn....... I sold the power plant I was planning on putting just cuz the guy "had to have it" which means I got an insane amount of money for it. That being said 68 short step is helping me put together a 6.0 ls motor that will be plenty of power to move the old fish down the road. I will be posting pics real soon as all the body work is done on cab just getting ready to jamb it all out. My buddy and I have been spending alot of time blocking and priming and blocking and priming and blocking and priming and....... you get the point this is gonna be one strait truck.

I am glad to hear you are going with the ls engine, I will need you and 68ss to document the install for us. We just picked up a 5.3 that turned out to be a 4.8 anyway our build is headed the same direction. Just getting started on the cab and chassis. Keep up the hard work it will be worth it! Now add some pics of the sand job.

here are a few pics and specs of the engine/tranny.... its a 04
5.3/4L60E with only 9xxx miles (not a typo its 9,586 mi. engine).... its was a bit dusty when i picked it up, but internally it was spotless....the tranny was also in great shape... took the pan off to check the magnet in the pan, and it was clean....also replaced the filter while in there....anyways here are a few pics of it getting worked over.
