Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
hey, its been a while since ive been on the forum. the trucks looking great! nice bull bar, id paint it with that "black chrome" treatment for rims, just to give it a darker look, but it looks nice. i love the hood, ive been wanting to get one for the longest time, where'd u buy yours and how much did it cost shipped? well hope everythings good on your side, keep up the great work on the truck, cant wait till its completed!
|
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
got it from stylin trucks $174 shipped and NO it's not a typo. They are $180.xx shipped now, use their free shipping code on the top of their page, and it's a different part number then mine but looks the same in their pics on the site. several guys have ordered them the new part number one, haven't seen pics yet.
I went and got some spray cans mixed for underhood today, the truck is officially going to be waterworld blue metallic, it's a 2011-12 saab color. it's a dark blue with alot of flake to it. I'm going to do the firewall, inner fenders and backsides of the fenders with the spray cans, the rest is bc/cc. |
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
this thing looks sweet. keep up the good work
|
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget

Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
rockauto maybe or lmc? lmc or classicpartsofmaerica should almost definately have them, but rockauto might.
and thanks rocking chevy, it's getting there. |
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
not much going on my way. I just ordered all new parking brake cables from amazon, got a steal on one and great deal on the others. I also bought my clear coat, need another gallon, 2 things of hardner, my base and reducer for it, as well as sealer, paper etc. SO not much has changed. I also got a special side project going on for it, gonna keep it under wraps for now, once I get more done on it I'll post pics.

Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
truck is looking good just need some new rubber and it will look amazing
|
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
Man that hood makes the truck look beastly! How does the insert on the cowl look? or is it just open
|
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
nice it's not open just has holes drilled, I'd say 7/16 or so on the dia. of them.
|
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
got my ebay headlights installed this past week, adjusted, as in fitting the grille nicely, sealed them up with silicone, installed the bubls and changed the plugins over to fit the 9005/9006 setup since I had quad sealed beams before. Got my new clear corners installed tonight and got my 4 corner mod fabbed up, the uper corners get a socket glued on to accept the 194 socket t10 setup whichever you wanna call it. I also worked on my front bumper trying to get it straight and aligned good, finally broke down and ordered the 2 DS brackets for it, shimmed the core support and the fender, worked on it's gap alot, still more to do on it. Pulled my a/c condesnor core out finally while the grille was off, going to also try and wire my front bull bar lights while it's off. I may even break down and order my new lower grille filler, paint it the blue I'm doing the truck in and then reinstall.

|
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
Better be soon
We need some updates Chris! |
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
LOl I know, I been lacking, been running around alot and never got any pics, now I gotta put it all on hold, slap it all back together to use the truck this week, then tear it down later and do more mods to it. I was gonna do the 4 hi mod while it was apart, body work and paint the bumper filler, wait on my new bumper brackets and finish getting the gaps right with the fender and hood. Now I guess it all has to wait again.
|
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
have to get some of the grille, the 4 corner mod and the clear corners etc. but here's some of the ebay headlights and the 285's finally installed.

Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
Looking good chris, I was thinking about the 4 corner mod but I wanted to put a 194 bulb in there lol just like the lower stock. The one I am still wanting to try is the 4 brake light mod :) itd look sick with the 4 corner mod.

Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
that's exactly what the 4 corner mod is another 194 bulb, same thing I did to mine.
|
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
Man you've come a long way on your $600.00 dollar truck & I think it looks great!! My DD is an '89 K1500 SWB with a 305 & 700R. I took all that sensor & TBI junk off mine & put a 4-barrel intake, quadrajet & HEI dist. in. It gets alot better gas mileage now & a lil more power. Keep up the good work. I don't guess ya'll ever found out who backed into it?
|
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
most likely I won't lol, but it's ok I'm gonna fix it and paint sometime soon hopefully anyways.
|
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
Ah kinda looked like an led, so u just drill the upper corner?
Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
pretty much, but you have to epoxy the ring on the backside of it, it's the plus sign or + looking thing the bulb socket turns into to hold it in place, remove your old lowers cut them off, epoxy them on and drill your hole or drill the hole first.

Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
this is more like it, cleaned up and tires shined..

Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
did more work, sanded and primed my upper shroud, still have to do the lower, wetsand and paint them. I also relocated several things, wiring, hood latch cable, and washer tank.

Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
ok finally on with moe pics...
got alot installed, the valve covers, new gaskets on them, wing bolts, caps, etc. new heater hoses, braided covers on them, new aftermarket (smaller) overflow jug. Going to do battery cables sometime soon. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_4118.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_4119.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_4121.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_4120.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_4122.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_4123.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_4124.jpg also put on the new lower hose, going to do the upper, installed the new water neck and fuel pump block off too. |
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
not a whole lot else been done, put my tailpipes back on and new tips. I also fixed them alot better for less to hopefully no leaks. I need to work on them a lil' bit more, hangers and such.
I decided I wanted to paint my accessory bracket so I pulled it, painted it, put it back on today. I like it better now. I got more to do. I bought new cable ends for the 2 gauge cable I bought to make myself new battery cables. I also made my gauge holder to move my gauges up in the dash pocket, and had to buy a new line kit since mine was too short. I also picked up a battery hold down and reinstalled the primed and painted battery tray. I'll try to get some pics up next day I work on it. |
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
made and ran my new battery cables, bolted it down, reran my gauges, had to move/make hole in the firewall closer to the engine(lines too short) mounted them, wired em, ran new line for the oil gauge. Fired it back up for the first time in a couple weeks, sounds queit with tailpipes on but nice as soon as you hit the gas.
You can also see where I aid I decided to paint my accessory bracket silver instead of black. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_4130.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_4129.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_4128.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_4127.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_4126.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...4/100_4125.jpg |
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
got some new junk yesterday and today, and junk is the right word for it too.
I guess it happens when you have to go cheap. First up is my amp kit, tucking wires left my amp wire a bit short, can't find the other piece I had which I beleive was longer. I ordered this, ![]() only because price pros on amazon owed me from a previous order, so I got it for like $11 shipped. It's an ok kit, but mine must be 6 gauge or their wire is way thin it looks like 10 gauge to me. So I decided I'll splice the old piece of 8 gauge I think it is or 6 whatever my old amp kit is, to the wire I already have for my amp in the truck. I had a piece for the ground which I didn't use previously, I just used some left over blue power wire for a ground and used this to power the junction block underhood from the factory. Now I plan to use this amp kit to power that block and then have the thick wire to my amp. I may even double up the wire to the block to make sure it gets enough juice. Next up this came today... ![]() JUNK!!!!! I can NOT cut this crap. I cut my other kit with scissors, no problem, this I tried 5 pairs on, tin snips, linemans pliers, my wire cutter/crimper, bolt cutter's, steak knife(which worked better then the others) and a razor knife. I finally got it cut with a sawzall and a bi metal blade, not very clean either. The ends I thought were supposed to be chrome, they are more like brushed finish. Oh well it's better then hose clamps showing I guess. |
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
started my front end rebuild today, found out my brake hoses and sway bar end links the rubber is shot.
Just got done ordering some sway bar end links and both front brake hoses from amazon. |
Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget

Re: My 88 buildup on a tight budget
My passenger side sway bar link was shot also, looked similar to yours lol. The trucks looking good chris.
