Heres my 66 C10. Took all the trim off of it so I can buff it out and paint the white stripe again. Project took a little detour when we brought it out to the farm to haul lumber for the chicken coop. But I will be getting back to getting it all cleaned up and looking a little better. All original except the new wiring. Kind of hard to follow an 18,000 original mile truck though! haha

60-66 beautiful truck....I learned to drive in a truck exactly like that when I was a kid....my fathers truck was two tone red and white colors - top white and middle down was red but our truck had the small back window...cool...

So nice. How'd the engine compartment fair? It seems as far as the low milers go, the more prone the original owners were to cleaning the engine, the worse they did over time.
Let 'em be and give 'em to me, I say.

Thanks for posting photos 60-66! This truck is exactly what this thread is all about! Beautiful time capsule of a '66 GMC. IMO, this '66 GMC has joined ranks with oem4me '66 Chevy, as the most original trucks in existance. EXcellent reference for someone doing a factory restoration ( wish there were more done up stock this way). I brought up the differences in GMC's before, and your truck proves my point. It has the blacked out area between hood scoops ( near hood latch) to look like one large hood scoop. Also black fender tubs found on GMC's built in Pontiac Michigan. I assume the firewall is fawn on your truck also. One request, please show a close up shot of the "Custom" emblem. If I am correct it is not all chrome, it should have red and white paint stripes below the "Custom" logo. In a world were most everything is modified for one reason or another, it is a treat to see a GMC looking the way it did in 1966.(except for that photo with the car style full wheel covers of course)

I want to thank everyone for the positive comments on the truck. This truck is one of my favorites. I need to get some pictures of the engine but right now the truck is on a lift in storage. Will get it down and get some pictures of the engine.

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?

Thanks Factory stock. The firewall on this one is all red but I think some fawn color is peaking through. Yes the Custom emblems are Red and White striped. Its on a lift in storage so it will be awhile before I can snap more shots. I've had these emblems NOS before and your definitely correct on the red and white. Most I see are just white striped ?? I also had a low mile 63 Custom one Ton panel that still had its original red and white striped Emblems. The full wheelcover photo is the day I picked it up in Baxter Springs KS coming out of the old shop it was stored in, I agree those hubcaps were ugly.

Except for the wheels, steering wheel, carpet, radio, and aluminum valve covers, sliding rear wind and 6000 rivet holes for the tonneau cover, mine seems pretty close to original. 73,000 miles, 69,000 of which were in Arizona between time of purchase, and 1986.

They are still out there this one was really a "barn find"

My buddy just pulled this out of a barn in elk grove ca. from the 1 st owner , has it running and driving already with a new carb, only thing thats been replaced is the carb, bed wood was replaced with plywood some where along its life, tires, wiper blades, and locking gas cap but the owner saved the o.g. gas cap and put it in the glove box........and he got it cheap...:smoke:

Thanks Markeb, Been thinking about whether to cahnge the colour or not, I think not. The tonneau is white, I took it off when it was cool out, need a hot day to get it back on... shrinkage!

it's gotta be one of the rarest 4x4 survivors around:

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?

Based upon what it would take to restore a truck to similar condition, my take is that this was one heck of a deal at a little over 15k, not just market value. Factor in a premium for the low mile, all-original aspect, and it's just stupid cheap.
Auctions are risky for sellers, as you never know who is or is NOT there to bid that day. The buyer on that day got very lucky. Same truck was sold a year or two before for about for 21k, which still wasn't bad.

Finally dug out the 1960 Fleetside. This one has 22,000 original miles. I've had this truck maybe 12 years? or so. Original paint on Cab fenders doors and hood, bed has been redone. Interior completely original. I had done some clean up years ago under the hood and buffed it out. I put 15x8s and 235 75 15 tires and some chrome to brighten it up back then . Has a factory Hazard flasher with the hang tag,Radio and positraction. No rust ever and never been hit . Excellent driver.. http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...e/parts001.jpg

That's really cool. Personally, I would love to see it with the factory skinny wheels when it's such an (otherwise) stock and original truck. But I can definitely appreciate the aesthetic you've created with the wider rubber, too. At least the hubcaps are there. That's big bonus points in my book!

I agree, when I first did this truck skinney wheels were not cool. NOW though I think they look better, just makes them look like they should, makes them stand out in a crowd so to speak. I still have them so they will be back on some day.

Thanks, when I get the 59 cleaned up I will post better pictures. Its a 29,000 mile 100% original black paint truck except for the wheels again, still have them and THEY are going back on this one. This is one of the straightest trucks I've ever had.

Love that 60 truck. I hope one day I can get mine to look like that. It is hard to believe that there are some trucks out there that are in that shape. I am from Texas and growing up I see these trucks on the farms and they are always beat up. Like mine. It is great to see one in good shape. Great truck!

Also, I don't even care that it's the wrong generation for us 60-66ers, I gotta see more of that black truck.

Your creating a lot of work for me... LOL... But Im enjoying it. The 59 is next in line. Its been sitting on a lift in my building now for at least 6 years. I had some trouble blowing out the ballast resistor on the firewall so I got fed up and put it away.Any ideas on the cause ? Walked home twice each time about two miles. This truck still had two original tires on it. I have some "AS FOUND" pictures of the truck if interested. Truck was stored in a HOUSE in North Carolina since 1985 along with a 57 Chevy Belair with 19,000 miles !!!

Heres the pictures. Notice the house style building it was in. The 57 I didnt have any interest in but there is one picture. I still have the aluminum cap that saved the bed. The roof leaked and the cap kept the water off the wood.http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...CK/Pic1480.jpg

all i can say is wow...everything you have is an awesome sight, & i'd love to come across a truly original truck (or car) someday...while i appreciated them, i was never really much into original stuff and always leaned more towards customized...but this site has really made me realize how cool (and rare) it can be to own a truly original vehicle...it's amazing to think something can go that many years "untouched"...thanks again for sharing!
