Will be interesting to see this shape up.... how are you going to work the doorhandle and latch most bear claws are a pull to unlock not a push I will be interested to see what you come up with...... the whole build is just plain sick so far.

......fixin to order........just tryed a camaro handle for pre fitting...........looks like it will work well.......will wait till these come in to fit actual handle...........Always was a shaved person but I think these will blow a few minds as to were they came from!!!!.....going to use full 1 piece windows.....worried about how close window is to bear claw....video shows 3/4" is all u have ..any fatter and window will rub...OUCH!!..........jim

Well what I discovered was if u use a left in place of right It puts the unlock mech at the bottom side which allows a push to unlock-Granted it's down 5 " below handle but I'll work that out--The slider to lock the mech is on top and seemed funny if i used it where it came out bottom--it works opposite of the door knob action-up on knob-would actually lock mech---not sure yet because of windows if I am powering door locks...(p.s no instructions with these claws so I had to experiment--found inst.on internet..locks were brand new from autoloc!!).....................jim

Here's pic to show how the 1 gen camaro handles conform to the original "cup" of 67-72 door-----will have to move mounting holes in--and add material to end of opening next to door edge--on 1st gen cars there is no "hand cup" but it looks natural when put on this door--also 1st gen cars had a recess for both ends of handles but I think I can make these work without that recess.....The ring brothers handles will make some go "HHHMMMMM"??.......lol........jim

Well finally--got dash installed for last time--still lots of work to go--temp.installed billet ac vents (dont think I have ever shown dash since I added vents) and switch panel and ac control panel to see if I still like it!!! Dash will have billet inserts in that recessed area above vents all the way across-everything else paint --last pic is of blind clips I installed on cowl panel before smoothing topside-Nothing more than a fender clip shortened and welded on top side with about 3/4" sliding underneath--not pretty but hidden and really functional--Holds cowl as tight as screws!!!..........have a good week......(p.s notice my favorite part--No ugly heater box under dash--vintage air is installed in pics!!!).................jim

I have been strongly debating getting a set of those bearclaws. How hard were they to install and get everything lined up? Did they come with that panel insert or did you make that? Looks really good.

I used there installation kit-but added material to reach down to outer panel crimp(look at pics of cutout^^^^) Actually was pretty staightforward but your own your own-they are universal--have not installed striker yet-will post when I do-waiting to get 1 piece window kits-to see if I will have a rubbing problem on back edge of glass against the claw body--in their video U only have 3/4" of clearance from door end to glass edge-just want to make sure before going farther that I don't have to alter claw mounting-Yes I'm anal about fit and finish!!...lol....found out a long time ago about "take time for the details--pays off in the end"............jim

Thanx--the dash is 2 1/2 " lower than stock which I wanted--but kicking the V.A. up tight in the toe kick was the trick-As low as this truck will be U will virtually never see air box-------------jim

Ok guys and gals,A little progress here---Christmas in January!! Got my Mod 5 wheels in ..........unbelievable polish......setup bed to get actual dimensions for narrowing rear....these pics are where truck would be aired out......also almost done with Nates x-member upgrade......I know its an upside down shot but i love how slick the dimensions of these frames are after the pieces from Nate totally change it!! More later when finished (I know Nate when U see this U will say "He changed the bar arrangement!!" Yes I did "tweak it" but I think U will like the finished product)..Haven't installed trans crossmember yet..............jim

Sweet.
What's the specs on the wheels and tires?
Lots of dish,... so the backspacing must be pretty low.

jtp67-72 01-29-2012 11:17 AM

Re: 68 aka "Chained in Porterbuilt Prison"

20 x 12.....6" backspace........Schott's.....the centercap is so precision made I've had 2 people that couldn't find the line were cap meets wheel......tires are 315-35's............jim

Wheels look great.....

I had to go back and read the thread again because I noticed a tube configuration change in Nates X member. It looked braced differently than mine. Nice work!

Did you determine that you cannot use 55-59 truck dashes for that awesome look?

Yeah that upper bar (or lower one in previous pic since its upside down!!) normally turns down into bottom bar-Just thought it was slicker extended and turned in...still can run 3 " exhaust..Waiting on delrin bushings for trans cross mount then will set motor in......may be picking your brain for ls engine questions as they come up......Chose belair dash because of all the choices in gauges...billet trim...etc..Almost as many parts being repoped for those cars as these trucks!!! Another pic with frame right side up this evening .....Frame has NO twist now..............jim

Thanks for the info.....Turned out really nice.
My kit came with poly trans mount bushings. Is the Delrin the new standard bushing?

Ok guys----little update during halftime!! got 6.0 liter and 4l80 mounted in chassis...I'm a little concerned about height of tailshaft and drive shaft angle to carrier bearing....but got a call into Nate with pics to get his opinion...the engine has 3-4* drop in pics with frame level--really don't see why I can't run this oil pan also..has 1 1/2 " clearance about frame rail--Only about 1" lower than dropmember..........Cab comes back tomorrow and I will see how it all fits late this week............back to the game.........Madonna (ugh!) I guess for 53 she's not bad..............jim
