Not much on the truck still but did get the plaque painted and mounted: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/005-32.jpg http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/006-23.jpg I had been looking for a rubber floor mat but didnt fork out the $180 yet to a supply company ,when a buddy came across a original 66 rubber floor mat and sold it to me for $20 it had a few 1/2 to 3/4 cracks at the edges and when i was holding it up in the air as i was trying to open the slider door the weight of the mat ripped one f those cracks almost all the way.....I was pretty bummed and pissed at myself..... I took some rubber square sheets and rubber glue and patched it back together from the backside: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/002-40.jpg It was pretty dirty so i washed and scrubed it the best i could and bought a can of rubberized paint and painted it black again turned out pretty nice and will do for a driver for now.. http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/001-36.jpg I think it cleaned up the look of floor alot: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/004-32.jpg |

Still messing with the ford but did tinker with the truck a little, picked the rebuilt edelbrock carb from the shop and put it on, amazing how much better a rebuild makes the truck run: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/008-20.jpg then i just added the air cleaner and tiding up some wiring to make the engine compartment look a little cleaner: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/009-19.jpg then i got crazy and hooked up three horns that have all different tones, looks a little weird but believe me people will here me when i honk the horn:lol: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/010-17.jpg then i messed around with the bags and took this picture of the truck in tug boat mode: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/001-37.jpg |
Re: Birth of a C10

UPDATE: Not much of a update on the truck, or at least to take pictures of.....Just hooked up the E-brake cable setup and got it working nice, painted the battery tray and bolted it in, got around to replacing all the missing bolts that hold the front clip together, checked the gear oil in the rearend, greased all the u-joints and zert fittings on the truck, add a second fuse to the headlight relays, timed and tuned the motor, started putting the heater box together and found out the heater core is junk, so waiting on new core before i can bolt the heater box back in...just tinkering around with loose ends really. |
Re: Birth of a C10
ya my 66 is good enough for a dd which is what i got it for as well, only things left to do are bag and re-wood the bed but that'll be later after the 50 is done so i can drive that while that work is being done. and ya ill prob join that hamb and post on there or just make a private site again like the one you saw before.

Re: Birth of a C10
Tinkered with the truck today, when im sitting in the house and staring out my security door now that i have the truck facing the house I kept looking at the hood snout holes and it looked kinda messed up from some where along the lines having red overspray shot inside them:
http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/001-40.jpg so i took a wire brush and tryed to scuff up the paint best i could then tape and papered the openings and sprayed some primer: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/002-44.jpg then after that was dry i painted them black, looks 100% times better to me: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/003-33.jpg and since i was working on the hood I started thinking about my hood safety device i want to install since this is what happened to my old truck when the latch failed: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...tjennz/003.jpg Alo seeing it happen to other classic cars on other forums..I wanted to make sure i had something for added security... Ive seen some guys making brackets that they put a lock through, and some guys using chain, so after a little pondering I came up with a very simple solution for my problem, since i have a custom grill i made i can easily slip my hand through it and reach the safety latch hook , so i drilled a hole in it where it would be least compromised for strength and looped a lock through: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/006-26.jpg and this is with it locked and trying to open the hood after the latch has released: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/007-25.jpg I think it worked out pretty good as a safety device from the hood popping up ,and also will work well as a theft prevention since you cant cut it with bolt cutters....now i wont have my battery stolen like in the past, and if i wanted to i could undo a battery cable and pull a spark plug wire off if i plan on leaving it anywhere for a long period of time so no one can start it unles they put some time and effort in... My only concerns was: 1. in case of a fire how quick could I get it unlocked? But i figure it would be as fast as having a lock and chain/brackets(and its actually pretty easy to reach) 2. was the strength of the hook after i drilled a hole in it, It looks to be fine but i may weld a washer around the hole for extra strength. |
Re: Birth of a C10
Since some financial issues have came up lately and I have zero income coming in this has gone from a "low buck build" to a "no buck build" so Progress may stop for awhile, but Im just going to try and do things that dont cost anything...
I had a old can of white high temp engine paint so I pulled the brake light housing off and painted them white so I can get maximum reflection and some what bright lights using the reg. 12volt bulbs: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/006-27.jpg |
Re: Birth of a C10
Since I had the white paint can out painting the tail light housings I decided to paint the the tail gate chains , I planned on buying the precut "Chevrolet" decal's for the tailgate but might try and hand paint them white so the backend has some more contrast with the white letters and chains ...
old red chains stripped: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/007-26.jpg primed and painted white chains: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/008-22.jpg |

http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/008-20.jpg I mainly worked on the ford today but since my temporary secondary jerry rigged throttle return spring was brought up I felt like it needed to be addressed. I didnt find the spring mounting bracket I have been looking for in the shed but I did find a bracket that will work untill I find it..I bolted it on the intake and also swapped out the spring for another set of dual throttle springs I had. Now The set-up has two sets of dual throttle return springs and actually pulls the throttle all the way back nicely and I like the Idea of a second set just Incase I took a picture so you can see everything should be kosher. http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/008-23.jpg |
Re: Birth of a C10
Well havent worked on the truck because ive went back to working instead of going for surgery and have had no extra funds, but I did take it out for the first drive :metal::metal::metal::metal:ever besides up and down the street for test runs, put quit a few miles about 30 on her! heres some pictures the ol' lady took:
http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ms_picture.jpg heres where i noticed her taking pictures but didnt want to take my eyes off the road I was a nervous wreck listening for something to go boom: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a..._picture_1.jpg Nothing went boom ! but we did have a issue at the gas station....since i only have poured gas into the tank at home with a long funnel i didnt know there was a leak in the rubber hose filler on the tank so when i put the gas pump nozzle in and squeezed the trigger gas gushed all over the floor board and i didnt know until it was pouring out the bottom of the door at the rockers, besides the floor board full of fuel the truck did great with 0 problems! |

Put some more miles on the truck today and loaded up some extra parts I had http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/003-36.jpg and traded them to my buddy for the ram horns i will eventually run to replace the long tube headers that hang below the frame too much: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/005-37.jpg also a cool old tach so I can replace the newer sunpro tach that is installed now: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/004-37.jpg also helped him put a new distributor in his truck and get it fired up and yes my friends that is a o.g stock truck bought from the original owner out of a barn with o.g patina... http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...30966294_n.jpg http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...183781_n-1.jpg |

:lol::lol: Well today has been one year that I owned the truck went from a stock field truck with no motor or trans to a running driving air bagged daily driver! I Built it to be a driver, nice to look at but not to nice to throw stuff in the back or worry about scratching paint, I wanted to have more done to the truck by now like the exhaust, reupholster the seat ,power dual master brakes, and some other items but am pretty stoked on how it turned out especially since alot of the build i was on crutch's and in a leg cast and all done with basic hand tools and in a driveway, it was all about having motivation to get off my butt everyday and work on it ...im pretty stoked!! I know that it will never be done and ill always be doing something to it so there will be more updates only time will till what it looks like in another year! Re: Birth of a C10
Yes in short summary, adding relays take the power your headlights use straight from the battery(like new cars have) ,instead of the old school way where the power has to run through the headlight witch first then to the headlights which can cause up to %30 power loss, not to mention all the power load on the headlight switch can cause it burn up resulting in loss of headlight at night especially if its a stock 40-50 year old switch, heres the link i used that "markeb01" did it explains it a little bit better and how to do it:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...elay+headlight I just did the relay upgrade, not the low beam high beam jumper wire upgrade also described in that link.. |

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=532994 i did hangout with the local group of guys that are usually at the shows that are here on the forum! and got to meet a couple more new guys also, but thos is a big show with hundreds of cars/trucks and hundreds of spectators also so its had to meet all of them when alot of the time they are checking out the show also.... What also was cool about the show was the guy i bought my truck from a year ago spotted it and came up and checked it out, he was grinning ear to ear the whole time shaking his head in disbelief how much in done to the truck basically speechless checking it out for the first 10 minutes, then told me numerous times how glad he was that I got it and what ive done so far :metal::metal::metal: that made my day ! I got his contact info and will be keeping in contact |
Re: Birth of a C10
Man thanks for taking all those photos and posting them like you did! I really enjoyed looking at those.
I am glad you are showing your truck too. I think it is all the unique things you have done with your rig that really makes it one of my favorites! (like I have a shortage of favorite builds on this site...Hahahahah) Thanks again, makes me wonder what you are going to do next.... |
Re: Birth of a C10
Well thank you McMurphy I appreciate that very much!
I did get to do somework on my truck with a little help from a friend. My truck has now been molested by another man LOL, up untill now all the work has been done by me, but I didnt feel bad having a friend help me, this is one of my closest friends Richie he is a mechanic that runs his own business out of his shop behind his house: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/012-24.jpg I made a couple different sets of some shade tree shoddy relocation rear shock mounts that i was hoping would get me by until i could buy some $50 bolt on ones ,but kept breaking them due to my bolt on designs and also being a dummy and not knowing how how to measure shock travel right and pretty sure i had the shocks at full extension pulling on the mounts when the bags were at full air... here richie is making a template and showing me how to determine were the mount needs to be using a string with the compressed and extended marks on it: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/015-8.jpg here i am cutting the mounts out of rectangle tubing with the design me and richie came up with: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/018-6.jpg Richie cleaning the frame up to weld to: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/031-3.jpg I had Richie weld them in http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/028-1.jpg And with the shocks: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/038-2.jpg While we had the rear wheels off Richie set up the brake lathe and showed me how to resurface one of my drums since i only replaced the pads and springs they needed it: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/024-3.jpg then he turned me loose with the other one: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/032-4.jpg And I got the hang of it!: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/034-4.jpg After eating some Mc Donald's and hanging out for awhile it got late so drove home to post you guys some pictures , truck rides 100x better and got to learn some new stuff, fix my truck, and hang out with a old friend it was a good day! |
Re: Birth of a C10
very cool! always good to have knowledgeable friends you can count on :bowtie:....one thing i miss is not being close to home where i would be able to work on my truck with my dad, and learn a few things along the way too

keep up the great work

Well I helped richie pick up and install his drive line in his 4x4 toyota since he bent it on his last 4x4 trip and then we decided to work on a project for my truck.....I have a floor jack , gas can ,and a blue milk crate strapped in the back of my bed with hand tools, jumper cables, etc just in case i break down somewhere since the truck is now my daily driver ,and worried that either someone was going to steal my stuff out the back one day or use my own tools to break into my own truck....So I had been thinking of building a old ammo crate style box with a lock to put it all in but being low on funds to buy wood and also being a carpenter/electrician I always have work tools with me I decided it would be best to use a metal tool box....I know it takes away from the over all style and look of my truck but it is my daily/work truck so I had to do something......I had a set of longbed tool boxs that sit on the bed rails that have been out in my pops back forty for years, so i went and picked one box up and made some measurements: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/022-6.jpg cut it up and shortened it so it will fit behind the cab all the way to one side and be able to mount my spare tire standing up on the other side... http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/029-2.jpg had richie do some welding on the part you will see and i practiced laying some beads on the end on the inside : http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/037-2.jpg And here you can see how it looks shortened up: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...ennz/034-5.jpg Got it all welded up and grinded down but as far as we got .........tomorrows update should be having it painted and mounted......what was nice about using the side box is that it was something i had for years and free, and that when mounted in the bed it will be below the bed rails.. |
Re: Birth of a C10
A tool box mounted inconspicuously is something I want to do with my 65.
I look forward to see how yours turns out. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Birth of a C10
Well here you go!
I just painted the box black to kinda hide it , got it mounted and made a spare tire bed side mount. I used one of the box bracket legs that you would use to mount it in the bed rail and I had a extra 54 ford trunk spare tire rod and wing nut setup, I even installed a loop on the tool box to chain my dog to .....I havent painted the spare rim red yet or got the spare tire shaved into a bigger white wall but all in all I think everything turned out ok and it will do the job.: http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/006-31.jpg http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/001-46.jpg http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/002-51.jpg http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/003-39.jpg http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...nnz/005-41.jpg what do you guys think? |
