Thanks. I'll post pics of the straightening set tomorrow. Tubes are coated in 2000 degree natural cast aluminum engine paint.

So today I got the motor pretty much prepped for initial start up. Struggled with a broken IAC sensor in the throttle body, but eventually got it out. All the wiring is routed, battery cables on, fuel system complete, and manifolds on. Tomorrow I'll fill the crank case, prime the oil pump, and give it hell. Assuming the distributor shows up as expected, of course. |

I stole the flange ends from the 2.8 v6 and modified them to work on the TPI motor (one more problem solved). The rest of the exhaust will get built tomorrow as well. |

Don't know how I missed this thread either!! Excellent work and vision by all. Really like the speedo option, Chris. Will you make the stickers available for purchase??
Sub'd!!! |
Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI
Never thought about selling them. There is a lot more to converting the speedo than just the faceplate. I guess I could set up an affordable kit for retro fitting the speedhut gauge in the stock housing. Lemme think on that one... Big news is that Cecil ran today, after a lot of cussing and spitting, and 2 days of diagnosis. I guess that injectors sitting for 27 years can be a little feisty!

Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI
I'm sure Shawn will post up the video soon enough of the startup. It still needs an IAC replaced and some injector cleaner dumped in the tank. But I expect it will run like a champ after that.

Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI
Chris is a miracle worker! Behold the video proof that the engine not only looks good but it runs also!

Just in case anyone was wondering what the 5.7TPI came from I present to you the 87 IROC-Z before and after circa 1987. Moral of the story don't let your Dad drive your car. Wait a minute, he was my age when this happened! Hmm better be careful LOL :metal:

Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI
Jim, thanks... the corner glass is easy, the one that sucks is the rear window. Fanned near impossible to do it without a second person on the inside. But eventually I managed it. Lol

Nice work and great detail! Really like the radio behind the grill too. Wondering which power window product you used?
Thanks for sharing. |
Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI
Thanks AD. I use ez wiring's power window kit (universal). It is relatively in-expensive, straight forward design, and works quite well in these doors. Just enough travel to fully close the window, yet allow it to open far enough to be below the trim when the window is down.

After hours of cleaning and painting, the front end of the motor is together. Notice I had to change the water pump... The 87 had a normal flow pump, while the 91 had a reverse flow. Everything fit like a glove. In order to delete the smog pump and clear the K&N air filter I had to re-route the serpentine belt, while keeping all the pulley's spinning the right direction. |

Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI
I'm shocked that Chris does in 2 days what has taken me the better part of a year to do-and I have nowhere near the rust that most of his builds have.
Really nice to see. |
