Nothing exciting to report, did manage to strip and primer a front fender for body work.
To anyone who has removed the rear hood brace for clean up and primer is it better to spot weld back in or would pop rivets work? |
Re: Jans 53
You do nice work.
|
Re: Jans 53
Your drivetrain sure looks nice and shiny. I for one will not be opening my hood at any shows.
|
Re: Jans 53
Looks great! Very nice work - these old fenders are tough and usually really beat!
|
Re: Jans 53
very pretty!
I would weld, rivets are usually aluminum and I dont think would hold up to the environment. |
Re: Jans 53
Your color choices are very similar to what I wanted but in the end I went with grey.
You might look at the new Subarus, they have a Desert Khaki that has a nice sage green tone. http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/chipdisp...aru&smodel=WRX |

:clap:Nothing very exciting to report, been working on getting body work finished up. Found some rot on the inside lower doors I had forgotten about so I started on that today. The living room is filling up with body parts, thankfully I am the wife and I say it’s ok they can stay there as long as it takes,LOL.

And your work looks super clean. |
Re: Jans 53
Thanks everyone I’m slowly plugging away, been prepping all the small parts, inner fenders and such for paint.
Been thinking about using raptor liner on underside of fenders and the floor and walls of the cab. Anybody have any thoughts on this, I would love some feed back. |
Re: Jans 53
I did that on the Cherokee and like it. Helps with noise and rock dents.
|
Re: Jans 53
I got some undercoating stuff from when I worked at the dodge house. Went on real good and it's pretty thick. Had to go back and add seat belt anchors. Was a pain to clean off a couple spots. But I bet it won't rust out.
|
Re: Jans 53
I used the black Raptor liner on the inside of my fenders and bottom of cab. It's only been a little over a year but I'm really happy with it so far.
Also, a friend of mine has 2 cars that he wanted a matte finish on and sprayed the whole car with the tintable Raptor liner ( I would never do this). It's held up really well on both of them. |

Re: Jans 53
Thanks for the feed back guy’s, any idea how much I should order? I’m thinking I will do 2 coats under fenders, rear wall, kick panels, floor board, under the dash and under running boards.
Also, can I spray it over SPI epoxy and what grit should I use before I spray? |

Finally got to do something different than sand and prime today. Shot the inside of my cab and bottom side of inner fenders with Raptor liner. The worst part of the job is getting everything taped off, shooting it is super easy. I’m extremely happy with this product. I have used five bottles so far and still have the under side of the fenders to do.

Plugging along in the undercoating world. Last of the fenders done today, still have a lots of little painting projects to do on some brackets and core support. Thankfully the weather here is cooperating so far.

Re: Jans 53
Thanks everyone. I’m hoping to get enough done this year so that maybe I can put some paint on it next summer. The hardest part has been trying to pick a color.
|
Re: Jans 53
Paint? Then final assembly and driving? I can see that sometime in my future, I think.
|
Re: Jans 53
Wow that looks professional!!

Taking advantage of the 70-80 degree weather here in cali to get some parts painted and ready for spring assembly.....maybe?
|
Re: Jans 53
Looking good. You are going to be cruising come spring time.
|
Re: Jans 53
Robert, since everything takes me 3 times longer than normal I’m not counting on it.
|
Re: Jans 53
Is that your living room? I think my wife would have a fit. Lol
|
Re: Jans 53
Well you got that going for you. I'm still at the three times longer, do it wrong anyway, and then have to do it all over again!
