Re: 1961 Crew Max

that's going to be quite a high hump! looks like you might even need to modify the seat if you go with a bench..
are you going to use a heater?
and is there still room for the wiper motor?

I sectioned a 60 el camino, and those were 2 things that fought me a little bit, I wanted at least a generic heater just for the defrost function..

after seeing this I can't wait to get the body on mine , looks good low!

Re: 1961 Crew Max

Major modification through the floor and firewall. Should be able to fit a heater with defrost and floor heat. Going to use factory bench so might have to tunnel through bottom of front bench. We will see for the wiper motor soon. Thanks for checking in.

Well motor is in for now. More clearance is needed at the top of the firewall but sitting on cab mounts.

Re: 1961 Crew Max

Hi,
Your build is looking great! I'm also thinking of a Duramax swap.
I have an LLY from a 2WD 2007 Savana. It has the smaller gear box, so it should be less cutting in floor.
Any other major issues seen yet? How are you doing with rebuild of the Duramax harness?

What motor mounts did you chose from Porterbuilt? I guess they do not fit, but was it even close?

I'll keep looking.
/Thomas

CHIZZLER 07-26-2015 03:35 PM

Re: 1961 Crew Max

Motor mounts from porterbuilt will not work. Duramax mounts are now much farther back. The motor is so far back due to the R&P. Harness will be sent probably to stand alone solutions.

Thanks everyone for checking in on this build.

Re: 1961 Crew Max

Ok, is it possible to fit the old steering box instead of the Porterbuilt R&P? I'd like the R&P also, but maybe a traditional steering box could allow the motor to be further towards the front?

Little progress. Got the long bed on the new chassie. Getting it ready to head off to a friends fab shop. Things were looking good to get some parts when god decided to throw a curve ball and have my wife start the battle with skin cancer at 40. It has been a month now with many appointments and 2 surgeries. We will know soon if this is a life long battle or something that will have to be watched every few months. Thanks all. CHIZZLER

Re: 1961 Crew Max

I have dealt with similar issues as your wife, and if detected early, it's 100% surviveable. They have procedures now that work incredibly well. My skin probably got smoked before I was 21 years old due to sun exposure. It wasn't until my 40s that it started to appear. I get checked up regularly, and on occasion, I'll get zapped with liquid nitrogen or have a spot removed. No problem. The damage has been done, now I'm all about prevention and maintenance. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Well friends good new to report. Wife is cancer free. Surgery removed all the bad stuff and it did not spread. Tomorrow we meet with the doctor to go over all the details. Thanks everyone for the support and thoughts. I did get a chance over the weekend to get a set of the later 6 lug 4x4 15x6 steel wheels. I found the hub caps on local CL and seller shipped them to me for $100 total. They fit well and know it will roll when aired out. Frame has a 1" piece of square bar still welded to bottom of frame. New tires will need to be about a 1" shorter to get it to lay out. CHIZZLER
