Re: '72 Cheyenne K10
Looks good, but I would do a lot of complaining to the vendor on the chrome issue.

Re: '72 Cheyenne K10
Looks good, did you get the brakes squared away?
|
Re: '72 Cheyenne K10
Looks good. Bummer about the chrome.

Re: '72 Cheyenne K10
Brakes saga update:
When I pushed on the pedal, my friend noticed the linkage was sloppy. This would have been impossible to diagnose by myself. We adjusted the brake pedal pushrod and it seems to have a much firmer pedal and improved stopping power. I need to mess with the brake light switch as it seems to stop the pedal from returning up all the way sometimes. Most importantly, it feels a lot safer to drive. I am still going to be extra careful testing it. |

I made a cardboard mockup for a winch cradle to hang between the frame rails behind the front bumper. The rivets on the front spring hangers are in the perfect spot to mount it, but I think I will just add new bolts.

Nice winch, keep us posted on how it's going.

I made an alternative design for the winch cradle. It rotates the winch 90 degrees so the clutch handle faces forward instead of up, which would be much easier to engage/disengage. The wiring will be more difficult this way, but that only has to be done once.

Re: '72 Cheyenne K10
Post pics of the mount process as you go. It'll look good I'm sure.

I went on a little drive yesterday about 15 miles into the foothills to visit with my friend that is going to help cut the winch plate out at his work. Here is a short video from the drive up - https://youtu.be/OBSpvhzhaZM Attachment 2024755 Attachment 2024753 Attachment 2024754 |

That road reminds me of the road to Oregon house/ Dobbins...lol

Thanks guys! I love driving around Norcal foothills.
I dropped the truck off this morning to have the front gear work done. They are going to replace the wheel bearings and ball joints while they have the axle apart. Got to take a nice bike ride home on my old Raleigh. A friend helped me cut out the metal for a winch plate. Now I need to get it welded together. Attachment 2025003 Attachment 2025004 |

The truck is home from the gear shop. The front axle should be better than new. It has a TrueTrac limited slip carrier with 4.56 ring and pinion, new seals, bearings, u-joints, ball joints, and wheel bearings. They also did a nice job cleaning up and painting the old parts.

I like this truck a lot. I think I might sell my C20 and just keep this.

Re: '72 Cheyenne K10
Your C20 is really nice. If it were me, I’d have a tough time resisting the urge to put the best of the c20 ochre sheet metal on the k10 before selling it if you go that route.
Great pics! |

Definitely swap your newly painted bed with the sweet toolbox! Again, that’s if it were me. I’d want to drive the K over the C also, it’s just too cool! |

I found a matching KM2 tire on eBay, so I picked up another matching wheel for a full size spare that I can rotate in. I also put a fire extinguisher on the transmission tunnel. Both good things to have when four-wheeling in the middle of nowhere.

The winch mounting crossmember is welded together and test fit up inside the frame. I just need to sandblast and paint it. (and get some real bumpers fabricated)

I started making a cardboard bumper mock-up this morning. I have a good idea of what I want, but I am having a hard time finding the right person to fabricate it.

Looks a little wide......lol....it does have a good shape that's pleasing.

Re: '72 Cheyenne K10
I made a bumper for my truck when I was in high school and it was a lot of welding and grinding to make the joints look nice. I'm guessing you're looking for someone that can achieve the majority of those contours via bending instead of welding and grinding? When I made mine, bending wasn't an option and I wanted to powdercoat it so I couldn't do bondo to make the joints look nice. The steel also had a lot of mill scale so it was far from a perfect bumper, but it was very protective.

The winch is installed. Useless until I get a stronger bumper made with a fairlead.
I made a thread for the winch install here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=808840 Attachment 2031049 |

I found a $15 bumper in town, so why wouldn't I cut a hole in it and put it on this truck? At least now I can get a refund for the one I bought with the bad chrome.

I installed the winch rope this morning. It pulled across my neighbor's yard so fast that I had to stop it from rolling. I think it will work great.

Gearing up to hit the trail soon. I picked up some recovery essentials for the toolbox, a tire rapid deflator, and a 12v compressor for airing tires back up.

I also worked on the heavy bumper design a little more today. After playing with the cardboard concept a little more, I used a computer to design a profile drawing. I want to get a couple 8ft x 10in pieces of 3/16" plate bent into this profile with a hydraulic press brake as raw material to give to a fabricator.

I just ordered Vintage Air! It will be a nice upgrade for this truck.

Re: '72 Cheyenne K10
I'm in the middle of installing Vintage Air in my 72 C20 right now. Pretty straightforward install so far.
