Maybe I missed it, but are those powder coated aluminum rims? They look great by the way. I am a big fan of the BFGs. I ran a set for 82K miles and still had some tread. I was impressed. So I bought my 3rd set. ;)

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
This past Saturday I got the wife to help me move the Horn in the shop. Her arms were hurting a bit after that deal. I have to remove my grill to install my trans cooler so I'm trying to decide to leave the stock type or install my billet insert? I like both so it's a toss up to me.
http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...615_205713.jpg I'm finally getting around to installing my White Rhino Fab bumper too. It's beastly for sure! I've got to drill the holes for it tomorrow. That should be good fun. (Not really) http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...616_200848.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...618_124728.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...cb737ed67c.jpg |
Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
as long as it has been since an update, the thread title is accurate again! hahaha
that bumper looks right at home on that truck! i'm excited to see how it looks in color too. |
Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
maibe he should rinoline (bedliner) it
|
Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
My vote is for stock grill, I'm some what of a purist though. I think you could pull stumps with that bumper. Nice progress!

Now to decide on powder coat or paint? All the PC'd bumpers I've been around haven't held up very well. My brother thinks I should plasti-dip it, but I'm not sold on that yet for something you will be stepping on. Quote:

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
I forgot to mention I picked up a 21gal tank from one of my budies that I'm going to try to fit in the back of the frame for now. I really want a 35-40 gal tank in the end, but right now time is the issue. This one should work fine and make a guy feel like he's driving cheap with such a small tank.
http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...615_172457.jpg One of my brother's friends gave him a whole kit of Al's liner, and he gave it to me. (Actually I took it out of his hands. Haha) So now I have to get the gun and 2 more kits to do my bed the way I want to do it. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...616_185635.jpg |

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Some slow progress on the pumpkin truck. It won't be making good guys this year. I decided not to rush it together to bring it back home and continue working on it.
I put different air bags on it because I didn't like how the other ones wouldn't air up as far as I'd like. Plus they looked super full. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...628_121531.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...628_121545.jpg Air in them with truck level. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...628_162753.jpg I am redoing my exhaust and working on getting duals out the back behind the tires. All my exhaust is 4" but it will turn to 5" before it gets to the rear tires. I made my own Y pipe and the exhaust goes over the frame rail and will follow the frame until the air bag mounts and after that, they will go down and out. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...628_155023.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...628_162613.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...628_162549.jpg My transmission is done so now I need to repaint it and finish my trans mount. I'm debating changing my trans cross member too, but I may leave it as I might have entire new plans for this truck. Or another, can't decide. |
Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
dude, you aren't going to crew cab this one. just do another truck.
Looking good! |

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Here's a couple hours of work and contemplation. Sure doesn't look like it. I did decide I get to alter/modify my upper air bag brace so I can run the exhaust where I want to.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
its been so long since you worked on this heap of metal that the post fell off the front page! what the heck man!? hahahaha

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
 I haven't touched it. Nick borrowed the #6 line off of it, a horse ran into the side of it, and the auto may be going back in it. It's up in the air right now. I've been trying to get my 40 Ford back as a roller. I'd rather have one thing to roll around and store this winter rather than have one car eat up 2.5 storage areas.
In the back of my mind I'm going to get the Horn running and maybe stick my snow blade on it for when the white stuff really comes down:metal: We'll see how far things actually go........... |
Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
it be eazier to roll the truck around when you can start the engine and drive it
wat i see the nr 6 line and prolly a charged battery is all thats stopping it from doing that |
Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
It won't drive...... It has no trans or tcase in it.........

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
There's always a need for some large, heavy, awkward parts cluttering up the shop floor or taking up space under shelves, collecting dust, nicking your shins, and catching air hoses. It's the second best place for transmissions and transfer cases. And I'm sure neither one of you have only one transmission or t-case on th en floor either! I've got a 4L80E and a 700R4 along with a 205 and 241 for now... With another in the works. Pushing projects is good back work.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Yeah, you're right. I've got a few laying around. I'd like to clean house and sell a bunch but it's like getting rid of your kids. I can't do it.
|
Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
I'll adopt an NV4500
|
Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
I'll take a Getrag!
|
Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
You can't get rid of your kids ? Or your wife won't let you ?... Lol.. How old are they ? I have a 4 year old boy and a 14 year old. I think I'd trade the 14 year old for a nv 4500 if the chance presented its self lol.....
|
Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
be a lot queter around the house thats for sure
one the other hand ever tried to get a 4500 to catch a baseball? |
Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Ever tried to get a teenager to do ANYTHING ?.... Better chance getting the 4500 to do what I ask it ....
|
Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
It looks like I'd still be broke with you guys around! You guys do sound like some of my buddies. Hey, you don't need this. Haha, beat it. Yeah, the wife wouldn't be keen on giving munchgins away, either would I. We have a 3.5yr old daughter, a 2yr old son, and a 16mo old son. It's like a mad house most of the time.
|
Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
I may have missed it, but will the front spring hangers from the 73-87 4x4 work on these frames?
