I had a great time playing with the truck yesterday and wasn't in to much trouble for hanging out all day. I was thinking ground, but you could hear the draw on Austin's truck when you tried to kick it over. I think in the long run a good high torque will save you a lot of headache. Big blocks just take so much to turn them over.

That means header removal on pass side and clutch inspection plates have to drop...love it

If you got all those CCA's and the battery is fully charged. I'll bet your problems gonna be all that new paint(connection issues) :)
Performing the Volt Drops should help you find those issues and correct them real quick.

Not saying that a good PMGR starter would not be a good addition to that BBC.

Went home and my new ground kit arrived. So, new grounds on both heads to firewall. Added a ground from the voltage regulator to the horn to radiator support and moved and cleaned the block to frame connection. It now runs directly to the block, not off a mount to the block.

And another big concern resolved.

Plenty of room on the tail shaft mount shifter. 1st 3 pics are in 1st gear and last is in reverse. Seat is still two notches from farthest position so still more room to go back. Relieved that we are good here. Do need to figure out a different shift boot as the hurst one will not work here.

Fancy ground straps. My 292 in my 66 never had any for some reason...or any that I remember...its been awhile since I've seen it. haha. My 305 v6 has 1 on the driver's side valve cover to the fire wall. It didn't even matter weather I left it off or not. Not sure if I'm gonna use any on the new engine either...hope I don't need to. :chevy:

Again, not try to sound like a know it all, but I've been down this road with people many many times. Sent you that email... Suggest you don't add change or clean anything else. Let's do the testing, id the problem and make a "known" fix.

Don't know the pros or cons myself, but they are on and definitely can't hurt. As with most electrical things on these trucks there aren't enough grounds and they really aren't an eyesore if placed correct.

Thanks. Email was received. Expecting rain for a majority of the day, but we'll see how the weather looks when I get home and see what I can get done.

Been extremely busy these last two weeks, but did get some pics from my neighbor Craig of a few of the guys who showed up on the July 4 get together. Most guys projects are being worked on and they drove their newer trucks. We did have around 20 people total and 7-8 trucks. He's got more pics that he'll be getting to me, but the couple he sent I'll post.

1st pic from left to right is Craig VanValkenburg - 1967 & 2012 chevy trucks, dune buggy and 3 corvairs
Al - 66 chevy, 63 falcon and 2013 ss Camaro
Austin - 63, 79 and 2003 chevy trucks
Eric - 62 & 89 chevy trucks
Myself - 63 fleetside and stepside chevy trucks

Haha...not bad for being painted outside huh?!

No, no rubber burning yet.....I'm kinda jammed up this week, so will be Sunday before I can attempt fire up. Will be 60 miles offshore this weekend looking for king mackerel and mahi's.....

Hows your truck coming along?

Craig does an awesome job on the photography and I'm looking forward to pulling the truck out....getting it all cleaned up and letting loose with the camera.

hope u got plenty of fuel to make it back to shore!!! dude I'm knee deep in nos parts. been on a tear the last few weeks, spending all the overtime money i can get. once i get all the parts, its off to the black phos dude and pot metal plater. my plan is to run out of parts to buy then rebuild all in one swoop. it cost me nothing to put stuff back together. i get tired of searching and picking!!! i wanna build!!!!!

Just glad I'm not paying the fuel bill for the boat. 95' and takes around 45 people to make a trip out of it. But I do plenty of good fishing when we go. Catch a lot of grouper, black sea bass, snappers, mahi and have caught some decent king macks off of it also.

The rebuild is the tedious but fun part of the job in my opinion. My wife likes it do to the fact parts are leaving the house and not entering it. Nice that you have a stockpile of NOS parts to use. Keep me updated on progress!!

Looks like the 4th get-together was a hit… Thanks for the link on the ground straps...:mm:

After reading about all the "fun" these truck's electrics can be, I pulled the trigger and ordered a set for mine…;)

Sure wish I could've made the get together, had some family stuff jump off at the last moment. I'm glad you guys had fun. If anyone is hitting the Blue Ridge Parkway to look at leaves this fall, let me know and stop by for a cup of coffee. My VFW Post up here had a car show last weekend, not many Chevy Trucks, mostly Brand X.

We'll do another one probably in Oct. My borther in law just moved up north of Winsten-salem, I'll let you know if we make it up that way.

Been busy with work lately and hitting the beach and offshore lately for some great fishing, but really need to get back on the truck. So close to having it on the road.....
