No, its spread bore on spread bore.

Re: PO has me PO'd
Ok can you butcher a NOS part, luckily it wasnt a 67-72 part! Had to find a place to mount the MAP sensor, its pretty close to the oem location. It will be mounted on the overhang of the cover plate, underneath
Now i just have replacate the three mounting holes along with a shoulder cut. Should be a challenge to make the relief cut. I know its going to want to walk on me! Waiting for the crank trigger mount to be drop shipped in from Mallory http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8357/8...97f528cf_c.jpg 20121211_115821 by jarosaj, on Flickr Sorry to say, but even AC DELCO has parts made in China. Re: PO has me PO'd
That rear cover is different then mine, but I guess cause that was a maf system.
Putting it under it would give it a nice hidden location!! At one point, I had made a bracket to cover the egr hole in the middle of the base intake, and hold the map sensor at the same time. ;) |

Re: PO has me PO'd
Ok, got the MAP sensor mounted up, and plugged in...onto the crank trigger and wideband O2 sensor. Glad i bought the transfer punches, made transferring the holes alot easier
Could be a problem with the mount of the crank trigger, well see http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8197/8...3d87bc03_c.jpg 20121213_134514 by jarosaj, on Flickr http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8346/8...a7b836c2_c.jpg 20121213_134729 by jarosaj, on Flickr |
Re: PO has me PO'd
Installed trigger mount, of course some problems...the bottom support bolt hits the block, they provide spacers to correct this, but i want to use the spacers only for the in and out of the crank trigger
So, i have another idea... I will be using studs to mount the bracket to the block Top bolt needs thread sealant, as this one goes directly in the crankcase Anyone need a new fuel pump, you pay shipping.... http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8064/8...71892a52_c.jpg 20121214_113554 by jarosaj, on Flickr Ok, heres the problem...the guide hits the block(threaded portion), really snug fit, so i plan to cut off some of the threads. Counter bore bracket slightly, about an 1/8", cut a groove in the guide for an E clip. Then the guide will be level with the bracket The adjusting rod really keeps the guide in place, but the E clip is just added insurance http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8503/8...55755635_c.jpg 20121214_155435 by jarosaj, on Flickr |
Re: PO has me PO'd
Worked on the injector harness, plug and play...when im done wiring, it will all be wrapped same as oem, with clothe fabric loom in some areas. Wire bundle is getting smaller, have to wait till after Christmas to spend any more money...have buy my ignition box, crank trigger, wheel, and spark plug wires. Purchases gettin smaller!
Opps, forgot fuel system, oh well Issue with air temerature sensor, seems that there was a 1985 only, which i have. Twice the price, my luck holds true. So, i think i will change it to the 86 and later, which is coolant and air sensors the same. Might be easier on the next guy The green wire on the right bank, will go to a senser in the rear of passenger side head Ok heres the mandatory pics, or as you guys say, it didnt happen unless you can show pics http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8494/8...314e723f_c.jpg 20121218_105738 by jarosaj, on Flickr http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8224/8...dc9d04d8_c.jpg 20121218_105829 by jarosaj, on Flickr http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8361/8...f8b6c34e_c.jpg 20121218_105943 by jarosaj, on Flickr |

Re: PO has me PO'd
Alright, bought the 1985 only, air temp. SEN- 601,since the company wouldnt sell the connector w/o pigtails ( didnt want an unnecessary splice ) side note, fast sells sensors for less
Sensor is for a 305 cu.in., ive got it going in a 350 cu.in., hope that doesnt cause problems in the future... Thank goodness for smart sons with a bridgeport, stopped down for the holidays, and showed him the problem i was having with the water neck not fitting up. With the o ring design on the outlet, it interferred with the intake....his solution was to ship it to him and he could machine the intake allowing the outlet to shift over and align with the studs. Still taking advantage of the swivel oring design. Sweet! Dang smart kid there.... http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8223/8...f52b7432_c.jpg 20121226_122328 by jarosaj, on Flickr |
Re: PO has me PO'd
You can see it in this pic, intake comes in real close to the water neck. Cant be more than a 1/8", but it might as well be a mile if you cant bolt the part up

Re: PO has me PO'd
Finally got to play with the wifeys christmas presents.....
I did have an ah ha moment in relation to the ecu mount, more on that later The ignition box isnt going to work there, soo, i plan to use the isolation mounts jegs sells. They just give you enough clearance on the curves of the inner fender to mount it there, using the jegs mount for the ignition box. I should say that im not sure how the isolation blocks will handle the constant strain of tension and compression. Ill contact the manufacturer, and see if they have any input Crank trigger and wheel are mounted up, just have to get the oreintation to tdc. Plug and play! Last sensor to deal with is the O2 sensor http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8497/8...7b6d3c8d_c.jpg 20130105_143449 by jarosaj, on Flickr http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8360/8...0d1e9cdb_c.jpg 20130111_133941 by jarosaj, on Flickr http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8211/8...d24e021d_c.jpg 20130111_141902 by jarosaj, on Flickr |
Re: PO has me PO'd
I think ive finally located the ECU, after 4 attempts to put it under the heater control with varying degrees of success. So, i decided to put it on the heater box. The ecu is slightly larger then the box, so it has to be mounted on a plate first, then the plate can be mounted on the box. Now i can clean up the mounting plate
I used nutserts, and 2" flathead bolts and nuts. The standoff allows me to run the harness up and into the dash area. I dont know how strong the nutserts are hanging off the heater box, so in the near future ill be putting 1/4-20" isolation blocks in to support the weight of the ECU Using a tranfer punch helps to locate the holes, there is a flapper gate in that area to be mindfull of http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8231/8...4f37a027_c.jpg 20130113_112004 by jarosaj, on Flickr http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8091/8...bc3b9b0b_c.jpg 20130113_174519 by jarosaj, on Flickr http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8466/8...b01b0252_c.jpg 20130113_174617 by jarosaj, on Flickr |
Re: PO has me PO'd
Cool build, TPI's are really well suited for trucks, I have installed several of them for myself and friends and been happy overall.

Re: PO has me PO'd
Just filling in some slack time, waiting on the 1" isolation blocks to come in from cavan@service rubber.com. He sent them out n/c! Promised him i would give him a plug, really good guy and into old cars and trucks.
Anyway, thought i would build on dale99's idea of mounting the coil on the cowl. Took the factory coil mount that belongs on the intake and cut it to fit the coil. Still have to make someside mounts to equalize the weight Thanks bk04 for looking, and i agree the TPI should be a good fit for our trucks http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8361/8...2d2beee7_c.jpg 20130117_125853 by jarosaj, on Flickr http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8508/8...36c59a4a_c.jpg 20130117_125955 by jarosaj, on Flickr |

ahh, you were missing part of the bracket system. But that works as well.

Sorry bk 04, didnt notice you slipped that question in there...in the future, i will be building a higher hp engine, and was told it will give me a more accurate signal, since i was doing all the modifying of the wire harness, just thought it was a good time to upgrade I have the dual sync distributor, which allows me to run sequential injector timing instead of bank to bank. Bank to bank would fire twice, which would put unused fuel in the combustion chamber, so sequential would put fuel in only when firing the plug. Timing is controlled by the cam and crank position |

Re: PO has me PO'd
Changed the mounting of the igntion box somewhat, since it was going on the inner fender well, i needed a little clearance for the double curvature. Used the isolater mounts on the bracket instead of the box, gives me alittle better then a 1/4" clearance all the way around

I hope they look good where i placed them Plan to contact M&H to see if they will sell me a full piece of channel to hide the wiring harness going across the firewall Bought the other half of my coil connector from TPI Parts, now just have to splice in the double connector Orange and Black go to the coil Red goes to 12 volt switched White goes to points wire in the fast harness Grey goes to the tach lead Yellow has voltage off of pink, and goes to starter solenoid |

Re: PO has me PO'd
Well sorta, had a couple set backs.....
Took a winter vacation with the wifey, flew into Clearwater Fla., rented a conv. Camaro, and cruised the Gulf Coast MSD set back. Wanted to extend the coil wires, but after numerous attempts couldnt get the right terminal for the ignition box. MSD was no help, they couldnt identify the terminal i needed, so they just sent me another complete cable assembly. Solved the problem by running coil wires to another location. Coil had to be moved since it hit the distr. Speciality Retail hooked me up with a fender lug that imounted on the firewall for switched 12 volt pink http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8086/8...6eb49e28_c.jpg 20130308_141640 by jarosaj, on Flickr Wires that still need to be spliced...pink w/ black tracer goes to orange, and white goes to black on the coil. I wanted to keep the colors(orange and black) but, one of the coil connectors was molded together, so i couldnt take it apart to change the wires Ill keep looking for a connector that i can take apart Grey tach wires get spliced together Red wire, plus red wire from the distr. get tied into the switched pink lug. I split the original engine harness to run the 12 volt wires away from the sensor wires at the back of the engine. Pinks have to be tied together, since the smaller pink supplies power to the headlight harness |
Re: PO has me PO'd
Ignition box is all wired up, with the exception of the white points wire going back into the harness under dash. Keep this wire away from power, cant help that it is going into ignition box connector. Noise being the biggest factor here
Red power wires are going to the starter lug, ground located at a good source in the starter area, as recommended by fast. Not going to the battery http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8516/8...1ccf6845_c.jpg 20130224_104047 by jarosaj, on Flickr |
Re: PO has me PO'd
Found a descreet source for power and ground, as recommended by FAST. These wires CAN NOT go into lugs, or any other source of power other then the battery. So, i am using the side posts

Re: PO has me PO'd
My son fixed my intake, used a 3" fly cutter, and did a plunge cut to get the clearance on the waterneck. He only had to cut about a 1/32", amazingly that was enough to cause problems

Guess I haven't been paying attention, just saw the posts about adding the TPI. You'll be really happy with it J. I love the one in the 71. As usual, you are going whole hog! I just bought my setup with a Speed Density upgrade and went with all the stock electronics. Can't wait to see you get this thing running!

Re: PO has me PO'd
A liitle update...had some medical issues over the last few months. Plantar Faciitus has keptme on the couch in a cast. Blood work, MRA and MRI indicated that ive had four strokes over a period of time, which explains the numbness in the right hand. Tend to drop things, as long as i dont drop a bolt down the intake, i should be ok
Working on the fuel system, since all the sensers are wired, and power to the ECU are completed. Found an in tank fuel pump from a 2002 f body at Racetronics, after i bought it, i found out that a truck version of the same year would have worked without mods. Our tanks are about 13" deep, so i had to extend the 3 tubes in the pump to accommadate this demension. Waiting on the new tank from brothers to arrive.....keeping the oem sending unit, and adding pump to another location behind it Kinda got a little ahead of myself, and had to redo the power harness running to the battery, since i had to add in the harness for the fuel pump, and relays. Using tubing and proclassic hose as recommended by JJH Jimmy, still waiting for fittings to arrive from Jegs Bought a Camero fuel rail, JBClassic, to get my fuel lines headed towards the drivers side, plus, i was able to combine the corvette fuel rail to eliminate the ninth injecter One of the tubes has been modified(return line) the other two support rods havent been done. Fuel pump comes apart relatively easy. Also, you have to extend the power harness, inside the upper pump housing and basket (harness removed, and not shown in pic) http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7349/9...a18e8489_c.jpg 20130619_113515 by jarosaj, on Flickr |
