Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Broke my motor...actually I guess that was last Friday.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Worked on the wheeltubs for the rear (actually this was Sunday, but I havent been able to get on here fince then). Got them trimmed to fit real nice to the factory bedsides and floor, and got them tacked in. Just have to finish welding them in, and decide if I am going to leave the rest of the floor open or make a notch cover for it.
This one of the probably 50 times we put them in to check the fit. The factory bedsides have several complex angles in them, so it took a long time to get them just right. They are almost there in this pic, but not quite. http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...7_605522_n.jpg And this is finally tacked in, adn done for the evening. http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._1706006_n.jpg |

I did a brake flush. Found a plate in a garage and the rest was easy.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I pulled my front clip off, relocated the proportioning valve, and started pondering how to keep my steering shaft off of my upper arm when I'm aired out. Still a little stumped. Colin Havens--those tubs look great.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I just got done tearing apart my drive shaft in order to replace the support bearing and u-joints.

As far as your upper arm hitting your steering shaft, you can do several things. Are you running stock arms? If so you can notch it with some tubing cut in half (like a "C") so it will clear the steering shaft. You can also swap out to a D shaft and some universal steering joints and an idler shaft, raising the shaft to clear the upper A arm yet still mak it all the way to the steerign box. Your third option would be some custom A arms, which would clear. Obviously the first thing is the cheapest, just depends on your skill. Good luck with it. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I got my speedo gears in today. I installed the new drive and driven gear, tail shaft with new pinion seals, installed a new rear pinion seal, re-installed the yoke and the drive line. Buttoned up the speedo sleeve and cable. Gotta let the lock tight set up tonight and hopefully I can test out the speedo tomorrow.
I've got an orange (I think #8) drive gear(1.84 OD) and a brown(18 tooth) driven gear if anyone wants it. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Speedo seems to be reading better. Not jumping around like it was. I need to get a GPS to check my true speed. Fired it up, ran it, found out my temp and volt gauges weren't working since I put in the new dash. I twisted it a bit at the printed circuit when I put it back together. All better now. But a new circuit is in the future I think

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Replaced my front steering and suspension original ball joints and tie rod ends, control arm bushings. Today, recuperating from 3 days of squating under fender wells. What a ***** it was to get those threaded steel bushings out and new ones in. Shaved twenty pounds of my truckes weight, all in rock and crud scraped out of a-arms and crossmember.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Just got the headers on. Had to go in from the bottom. Only issue looks like the bottom of the pass. side frame rail may touch a little. I didn't tighten 'em down yet. They are full length super comp. hookers for a '73 to '87. They came with the motor when I traded for it.

Got the holes in the crossmember cut and lined with sch40 and then painted. Tried to install my brand new $750 Hooker headers...they don't fit. You would think for all that money they would jump out of the box and onto the truck all on their own!

today I spent an hour in the back of my parts store trying to find a rad. hose that would clear my engine driven compressor belt. I had a flexhose with the spring inside and I dont even wanna now how much rust an/or pieces of rotted spring got sucked into my engine. I bought 2 that didnt work and just as I was going back to the store I almost fell over a full built 318 I have sitting in the garage. Wouldnt you know it there was an almost perfect hose right in front of me the whole time. After trimming 3 inches it was perfect! I started pulling my interior apart and took my console out to upgrade air valves and put in my painless kit. Then got sidetracked and wound up remaking the whole front half of my console for a smoother curve. I didnt go too crazy with it since Ill be pulling it out again when I get a radio and speakers someday. The console would be a perfect spot for a sub and some 6x9's.

Channeled my bed 4 inches so i can run my air ride and still have full use of my bed.... Cut a longbed floor down to a shortbed floor because the PO had destroyed my shortbed floor (He used to drag race the truck so he cut half the floor out for a fuel cell and tubbed it)... Then I cut down the tubbed inner fenders to stock + 2 inches....
P.S. Thanks to ka_jd7and1 for the bed floor... much appreciated |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Yesterday I posted that my new $750 Hooker headers wouldn't fit. After more investigation and trimming of the driver's side lower control arm (drum roll) they fit (almost). Turns out Hooker, in their wisdom, didn't relieve the header flange to clear the head bolt heads that are installed on a ZZ502 crate motor, so, the headers are on my truck but I need to replace 8 head bolts with head bolts that have shorter bolt heads. Anyone heard of this before?

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Been making a punch list to wrap up my 4x4 conversion/Cummins install.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...minsChevy2.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...oss/clipon.jpg Also took the old fiberglass visor pos off. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...s/VizorOff.jpg Still a lot to do, but right now its looking like a truck again. Until I blow it all back apart to finish boxing the frame. Then it will go back togeather after each piece is painted with POR-15 |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Took longer that "Today", thanks to the wonderful roller-coaster weather we've been having and a minor bout with the flu, but I got my new exhaust manifolds installed.
Engine was replaced in '97 and around 40,000 miles since then. Bolts came out nice and easy. The doughnut gasket between the manifold and pipe on the pass. side was pretty much blown out. Now I can hear my exhaust tone and not the exhaust leak Before---there is also an "R" on the passenger side that you cant see. Guess the guys that put in the engine couldn't tell the difference. The pass. one also has a big crack that you can't see in the pic. Attachment 721495 Attachment 721496 Thought I would give the Rust-oleum 2000* paint a try on the new ones. I cursed at mine today. Then went to the engine builder and cursed him.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I hauled mine to the paint guy this evening! But like a comple idiot I never thought to take pics till I was on the road, so now I have none since my truck is back together :( .The guy said he would buy an sd card and take some before he starts on it so I'm hoping he doesn't forget. It should be done in a month so I gotta get some stuff ordered and figure out if I wanna reuse the seat that was in it so when I get it back I'll (hopefully) be ready to get right on it.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Drove it to pick up stuff for home construction project only to discover my thermosat housing leaks still. I have a crappy chrome one that I stripped the surfaces and also used forma gasket on the reinstall. I let it sit for 2 days before filling the radiator. On the plus side, no speeding tickets today!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Found out that I have a bad lower ball joint on my left front wheel, and you brake line is most likely collapsed too. Those pads were smokin' when I was able to pull over to check 'em.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Actually Sunday, put some gas in it and fired it up for the first time since I added the power brakes, and power steering and new mechanical gauges.
It all worked,,,, I even took it for a quick spin around the block. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Used it to roll a perfectly good travel trailer in the median of Hwy 65 in Pine Bluff Arkansas. Came uncoupled for some reason at 70 while passing a Coleman Dairy truck. Jerked on the safety chains couple times while I tapped my brakes to get off cruise and hit my trailer brake controller to try and straighten it back up. It finally just shoved my rear in the air and drove me into the median and jacknifed then wipped around and rolled. The truck with my Honda 1800 stayed upright and bike stayed put. Glad I used 4 straps.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Well, last week I dug out some stereo gear from my 97 f 150 that I installed in 98 and pulled when it was totalled in 2000
and desided to install the old junk that isn't worth anything in the truck The doors where already cut front and rear for 6.5" speakers so I opened the rear hole and installed my boston acustic 6 by9s and pioneer 6.5" http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/v.../P10002012.jpg I also had some kickpanels and a set of cerwin vaga(remember them) 6.5" two way seperates the woofer is in the kick the tweeter in the dash http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/v.../P10002022.jpg next was the really old jbl and kenwood amps http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/v...s/P1000203.jpg and then cut the crap out of my arms try'n to get this in the dash http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/v...s/P1000204.jpg and re installed the seat after a little rework http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/v.../P10002052.jpg now to fit this blazer tank under the bed http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/v...s/P1000209.jpg this brace under the bed must be cut http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/v.../P10002082.jpg all gone http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/v.../P10002102.jpg http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/v.../P10002112.jpg there is another brace behind this one so it's not a big deal, if I was to use it like a 3/4 ton truck then,, I'm gonna cut the brace at my cut about 3/8" and fold it in and weld it so it'll have a little added strenth.. after that sand and sand and then some por 15 |
