When introducing an abbreviation or acronym, the words should all be spelled out with the abbreviation or acronym in parentheses afterwards, so that the terms are clear after that. Otherwise they are meaningless. <steps off stuffy person soapbox> ;) My first aerospace job, we had a booklet that defined all the acronyms in use. Some had as many as seven different meanings.

Same thing in military, depending on your job field, there may be 5 or 6 different meanings to same abbreviation/acronym.

Something was said one day and I replied "oh - It's a TLA".

"TLA"? the guy said.

"Yah - a 'Three Letter Acronym'".
