Swapped out my 64 dash with light for a 66 dash with guages and a tech. Can't seem to figure out how to hook up the alt gage and the oil pressure guage. My old gage had one wire for the gen. and one wire for the oil. My new oil gage needs a mech hook up. I don't know where to hook up the alternator. I used the wiring harness off the 66 for the gages but the engine harness is still for a 64. Oh ya then when I was switching the temp. sensor from a two wire light sensor to a one wire gage sensor I broke the part holding the sensor. It screwed in to far and hit the thermosta.:waah: No idea where to get that part. or even what it is. The picture sucks. sorry. I'm wondering if I can't just adapt a oil sensor from a 283. Would it just screw into where the oil sensor for the oil light was. It's not long enough and the threads are wrong size?

Re: Daverods project 66
Dave I just want you to know I just waisted my 1000th post on you. I dont know what to tell you about the oil. My 64 had the Mech dash, Not sure if he switched it out since he put a 350 in it. And I have a painless harness so I'm not help now.

Re: Daverods project 66
Dave, I think the oil is pressure and water is temp....not interchangable. That pic looks like a mechanical temp gauge...once broken they are done but can be replaced. It happened on an Autometer gauge I had.
The dash gauge pac also has an amp gauge, not a volt gauge. To hook it up is complicated. It is patched in the positive flow between the battery and alternator after the entire load of accessories(dash, lights, radio, etc.) I asked in the electrical section a while back and someone gave me a cool diagram....I never hooked mine up!! good luck |
