Re: My 1965 build thread
Happy B-day Alan. Hey on the door seal my friend at the body shop said that he will put the seal on first, adjust the doors to fit then removes it and paints. That way when he puts it back on there's no problems with the doors closing.

There won't be a whole lot going on with my truck for a while. I might work on it here and there, but I got a side job lined up. Here is a LINK to it. |

Re: My 1965 build thread
Nice to see you're getting some work. In no time you'll be starting you're other truck. Found a 58 here on cl for 300. No title no engine no trans. I don't know how hard it would be to get a title, I might go look at it tomorrow.

Re: My 1965 build thread
kind of an odd time in the thread to ask about this, since you are already to paint..
but what kind of grinder(s)/discs do you use for grinding your welds? |

Alan, the extra work was probably a birthday present from a higher authority. I like to use that term. Got to use it once at work. I had a persimmon tree blow down on our campus during a storm. It was the only one we had. I got a nasty letter some time later from a Biology professor demanding to know why we removed it while he was off for the summer, and that he used it in his classroom teachings. I proudly told him it was removed by a higher authority! |
Re: My 1965 build thread
I get my grinding disc's and cut off wheels from here. They have great prices, and a better product than Harbor Freight. Check them out.

Since I couldn't work on 198's I welded my hood tonight. It got too late to grind. I've got a little over 2 hrs so far. I still need to grind and clean up and touch up spots that I missed. Tried to clean out the joint the best I could. http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...d/DSC00080.jpg Tack welded about every 3/8"-1/2". http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...d/DSC00081.jpg Connected the dots on every other space http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...d/DSC00085.jpg As it is now. It's hard to make a pretty weld when you jump around so much. All will be ground smooth. http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...d/DSC00088.jpg |

:metal:Alan, thanks for the catch on the 3M products - saves a lot of pain for the rest of us.

Re: My 1965 build thread
Those welds don't count if you know you will be grinding them down anyway. Can't wait to start doing that to mine.

Re: My 1965 build thread
Hey Alan, the disc's on the left, are they flap disc's? Just curious and couldnt tell from the pic.

Re: My 1965 build thread
I used to do it that way alan but it seams to cost alot... I went to an off label brand for my roloc and small disks. But the do the best job and more control
