Re: My 52 GMC Build
I'm not a diamond plate person. I don't know why but I just don't care for it. I do like #5 and #2. I'd probably go with some painted wood or something. I'm easy to get along with.

Thanks for all your input guys!!
So #5 ish lol. knotty weathered more gray pine (not quite old barn board) with black strips and stainless bolts. With a flat or satin finish. Something like this? Attachment 1600335 |

Nice work on the cart! On the bed cover, I kind of like the idea of safety tread plate like fire trucks have. It would go with the theme of your truck seeing how it started life as a fire truck IMO. The top pic in the link. It is pricey though. But you probably would only need 1 sheet. Haha

Re: My 52 GMC Build
I saw a 54 COE in Kansas a few years ago that had the safety tread plate. They painted the base body color and sanded the tops of the bars. (or masked them off) It looked really awesome.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Yep, that's it!
I would keep it flat, just my opinion 😉 |
Re: My 52 GMC Build
I like #5 also

I was going through some pictures and came across my first 1950 GMC. I bought it out of a field up north for $400 about 16 years ago. It was so rotten when I pulled the cab off the floor fell out. I kept some of the parts (like the front bumper is now my rear bumper) anything worth keeping and scrapped the rest. Now that I know more I wish I kept more of it, but live and learn.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Found something interesting for the air ride world. Not cheap but would make for a real clean install.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
I'v been seeing this and the Flo ride systems all over IG. its the new "mobwheels" of the industry. everyone is jumping on the bandwagon. It does make for some clean install. I like the concept and I'm sure it will hold up, if it doesn't I'm sure they can fix the problems. This design is just hitting the market and alot of folks are already jumping on them.

So I'm back from a vacation, we took my 2 boys to Varadero Cuba. They had never been anywhere before, They had a blast!! This is a great place to go, people are so friendly and the old cars driving around are amazing, most are diesel of some type. I'll just show you guys some of the cars and trucks. This was my 3rd time there and now have a good understanding that Cubans make Macgyver look like child's play. All the vehicles are used daily.

On our way to Havana the car lost most of it's power and idled like poop. Turns out it cracked an injection line 4 out of 5 got us there. I told my family you go look around I'm staying here to help fix it! After we walked around for a bit we took the owners other Belair. It had a diesel and 5 on the tree!! wtf cool. After lunch they had the 55 fixed with a piece of brake line for an injector line and we where off again. It was a amazing day.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
That sure looks like a Toyota non-USA floater. I had one from an Aussie FJ60 Land Cruiser in my FJ40 LC but those were 6 lug (offset differential.) All of the Toyota trucks/LC's and other variations are offered with full floaters pretty much everywhere other than North America and the 2wd versions would be 5 lug. From the early 80's to 90 (or so) the 2wd 1 ton was also available in the US as a SRW 5 lug and DRW 6 lug.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Can't tell you the rear end on that car.
But a great vacation story and nice pics!!! |
