Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
No garage time today.
I did walk for 45 minutes though.... This is what happens when you are class bound for 9 weeks and end up eating everything that does not have a door knob in boredom. You get fat. Simple. Every time I walk up to the farm, I realise how privileged we are, living out here in the middle of nowhere. 15 minutes from home you get to look over the Thames river to Essex. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sv0p0bqgw.jpeg On the way back this is my favourite home, comes with its own graveyard. The first appearance of the name is in 1240.[2] St Mary's Church at St Mary Hoo was the parish church and gave its name to the village, and although it remains a Grade II building, dating from the 14th century, it has been reconstructed as a private house. Formally rebuilt in about 1881 of local ragstone, it has an unrestored 15th century southwest window that is noteworthy. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...skzv2l4nd.jpeg The day had great skies as well. Final approach. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sqdwvrsn6.jpeg Anyway, I decided that I needed to go out and get a decent bicycle and start cycling as the walking alone would not remove all the food I shoved down my next in training. So I went via the scrapyard to drop of some steel, and found this bike, it is not the same one I previously planned on buying. Very pleased with it. I have a plan to create a little side project to go with the truck. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sxo5wodv1.jpeg After this I went to two bicycle shops and got a rude awakening with the price of half decent bikes. I guess it is eBay next. Hopefully I will get some garage time tomorrow. |

Hi Rian. Those are cool new LED bulbs. Would a standard 1157 socket work with them.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Every now and then you find a story or thread that really appeals to your own values, maybe reads like an adventure novel. And as it unfolds you get drawn in and end up going there every day.
This thread starts out bilingual, but predominantly English and then turns Enlish. It is about the power of positive thought and about hard work, adjusting and sacrifice. Take a look, I hope you enjoy it. Gary is a great story teller. http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/inde...topic=190196.0 No truck time today. Out early to help a friend move two people into a new home. Then back home by 2pm and cut the grass, put my old mower onto eBay followed by a tall Dutch beer. Following this I started on a bicycle I have wanted to work on for some time as I was not in the mood for the truck late in the day. Started with this old Raleigh Shopper. It has been Blue, Red, White, Silver and latterly Gunmetal Grey Hammerite. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sn94e4yzq.jpeg Stripped it right down and then cut the rear mudguard to a length I like. The front and rear tyres may need replacing or at least new tubes. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...s266rvcdn.jpeg Finished at this point tonight. The plan is to paint it NATO cammo green or possibly another colour, but I am feeling the green at the moment. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...swsq7mdoz.jpeg Tomorrow promises to have some decent boot fairs if the weather holds out. |
Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Hi Rian if you need some of those types give me a shout.
I know we're there are some new ones |
Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Like the bike Rian. They are good side projects when there isn't much time for the truck.

Went to see the new Captain America movie today.
Enjoyed it. Then home to finish assembling the "Hot Rod Bike" as a friend called it. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...spewebhpt.jpeg And then when it was done, came in and Nicola made us Egg and Bacon rolls. Back to work tomorrow, this weekend has flown by. |

I want to try a bit of pin striping, or maybe just a bit of striping on it too. I guess it really was more just about distracting myself a bit. Need to get my finger out and back to the trucks actual build. |

Rian I found me one of those Schwinn choppers, a red one , I think it look good in the back of the truck .

Had some of Nicola's and my friends over for a BBQ today.
I had been asked for a photo of the bike being ridden..... Dave volunteered. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...skuhdgz4d.jpeg Of course being a long term biker, and former racer, he had to try wheelie this thing too...... Bike 1 Rider 0 http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...smwq4eyl7.jpeg After a great afternoon of quiet chatting and too much food and drink, everyone left for home. One of Dave's 6 "I am not buying another bike" bikes. Me & Kevin with Dave suited up. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...syx1do9sx.jpeg Tomorrow morning is boot fair again, and then certainly some real truck time. |

Thank you for making sure I got those over riders Chad. I am as excited a kid at Christmas. This weekend was pretty much a washout as far as the truck is concerned. Unless you include buying parts to make it all twinkly in the end. Today we had a nice bootfair with some good bargains and bits for the house. I have wanted to try make a cool Steampunk Gamma Ray Lazer weapon for some time. Today I got this tool for £1.00 http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sbs7lmj9p.jpeg And a working compass for the princely sum of 20p Yes, I know that sounds mad, but that's what boot fairs offer the patient punter. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...shzd4dmu0.jpeg I had to go over to Martins place to help him with some woodwork today. I can do woodwork....... Mechanics.... Mehh. So I quickly masked up and painted a black base coat. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...swj7mlbu3.jpeg Then when I got back late afternoon the process continued. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sbokqrzzy.jpeg Done Chuffed. No purpose but like it any way. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...smdexzqo4.jpeg So that brought the weekend to an end. |

I am very much looking forward to meeting the Challenger. Today was another up at 05.00am on a Saturday and out the house by 06.00am to go help a friend and do a great little 350 mile road trip, so no truck time expected. Kevin and I have been biking friends for about 13 years, and today was a trip to pick up a true basket case of a 1976 Honda TL125cc motorbike. He has one that he has had since new, currently undergoing full restoration, so this second bike was meant to be a spares bike, but having a Miller frame etc, it will now get the treatment too. Near his house I saw this VW Caddy van. I love both cammo green and the Sharks teeth, more about it later. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...s1ykpawxm.jpeg Once we picked up his treasure we headed back for Hagon shocks and wheel builders. His original 125's wheels had been completely rebuilt, including new stainless steel spokes, bearings etc. Cost....£440.00 and he was very happy. They can do this.... http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...snvxdtmtk.jpeg What he had done. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...swsclyl2b.jpeg They also own a load of Speedway championship winners. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...saujtghxg.jpeg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...siwzevwas.jpeg On the way out, I had mentioned to Kevin that I had seen the cammo Caddy above and he then pointed out where the cars owner lived. Once I left his place After our trip, I drove there and chatted to the father and son who had built the Caddy, and this W114 Mercedes Benz on air, and the father showed me the W115 he is now building for himself. Crazy but perfect, he has added a whole lot of Steampunk thinking to the build. Sons car. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sfjyawxrb.jpeg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...stj9waiyg.jpeg I made it back home after 5pm. Played a bit with this Schwinn Sting Ray, and also the bike I did previously. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sgdxnqadj.jpeg I added a sharks tooth graphic to the front end, always wanted one. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sjiplplpo.jpeg Bootfair in the morning. Fingers crossed for a bargain or two. |

Hey Heinrich, welcome to the forum. I do hope you can find some help in finding some of those parts you need. Like the Instrument Cluster. I would not know where to even start looking for one. But hopefully the guys on here can help you find the right parts and get them to South Africa, I know how hard it is to find bits and then the shipping etc. You should start a build thread in the pre-'60 section of the board, HERE: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/f...play.php?f=205 I am sure the guys would love to see more of your complete restoration build. Take a look at Phil's build here, his son Austin knows where to find a lot of stuff.......http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=409469 http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sqbhiyobf.jpeg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sjszfqvn8.jpeg |

It was a great therapeutic day Bill. My Boot fair pickings were slim today, three flags only, 50p each, so about 75cents. I did manage to get this all steel kids ride on Fire Tender, never seen one in yellow. Needs a bit of cleaning up and paint needs a buff, but happy at the price I paid. Another ornament to gather dust and fall over in the house. Till we get tired of it an get rid of it. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...s5dahg219.jpeg |

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
So after boot fair today, I came home and did some indoors jobs, then cut all the hedges and shrubs.
Nicola was away for the weekend again, and got back before I was done, so I had a break, then carried on to finish the cleaning up. Then I thought I would tackle the clean up of the little yellow Fire Engine. Strip down. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...s2khsdul2.jpeg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...se9orhckd.jpeg Most of the chrome detailing was rusted and not too good, but I managed to polish most back to a decent standard. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sallzyfp4.jpeg Polished and painted bits. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sfitphw8c.jpeg Then the body, used T-Cut polish rejuvenator to cut back the dead paint after masking the mudguards. Followed by Zymöl Polish. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ssktvzgzm.jpeg Finaly the reassembly which left us with this so far. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sfpx3p7ij.jpeg Last thing I need to do when I get time is to get back in the woodwork shed and turn a new steering handle. Weekend over. |
