As far as I know it is just the factory's way of reinforcing the sheet metal inner fender so it wouldn't tear over the years. I could be wrong but that's what I have always assumed.

I assume the triangle piece is a reinforcement as well. When you got a V8, the radiator was moved rearward and the core support was bolted further back in the recess. Picture the core support just being slid back. Looks like on these inner fenders the rear holes have been filled. You would need something more than some thin sheet metal to hold it all in place. The forward position has a lot of items converging at the top corner to supply the support.

1 Attachment(s)
Although it looks a little different, the 58-59 inner fender has reinforcement plate in the same area. It looks like it's heavier gauge than the sheetmetal for structural integrity at the core support attachment point.

thanks for the comments on the inner fender thing guys.

Bam, didn't mean to hijack your thread. man, your truck is coming together. will you be cruising in it this summer?
just got a new vin for mine, not cruising this summer, prolly, but the vin is a big step forward.
post up some pics if you get time, it would be great to see a pro in action

Looks like your still moving forward? Trucks looking good, did you always have a fleetside? That green is going to look killer. I haven't been on the site for a while, thought I'd look back at my build thread and check out every ones progress. keep up the good work.

Working on the tune since the cam swap. The engine was turning off when I gave it some gas so I had to start tweaking ECU settings. Here is video of what it sounds like now

Yeah I think I am. I've been doing a lot of studying lately working with HPtuners software. Its actually a lot of fun. I played with tune a little more after that video and its idling even better.

Well once again I could not leave well enough alone. If you guys remember I never liked how the column stuck out of the firewall when I installed the 55 dash. The aftermarket mount just looked to busy and I wanted something smooth looking. So I decided to do this.

I made this piece out of sheetmetal and exhaust pipe I had laying around.
https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1927/4...bd37f9e5_c.jpg
Mocked up to see if I liked it better before I commented to it.
https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1957/3...73e0b5eb_c.jpg
Welded in and mocked up and yes I like it much better.

Grinded all the weldsm, filler, primer and almost done blocking. I will blend the paint in that area and you will never notice the difference.

did you do the hptuners school first or fly by the seat of your pants?
thinking of doing that as well, if I ever get my truck done enough to start it. whats the set up worth? does it run off a laptop?

Bam, I really like that Fuel Filler you made. It's kinda sneeky, blends right in there.

I'm flying by the seat of my pants.lol I read a lot, youtube, and go to the HPtuners forum and read more, I learning but I'm still very much in the beginner stage. The HPtuners I have cost about 600 bucks, but I believe the standard one 499. Yes you load the software on your laptop and plug in with USB.

Yeah but it was bothering me, it was not easy to cut into the paint, but I will be able to blend it so that no one is the wiser.

Yeah I really like it. I thought about the location over and over and I said its nothing to it but to do it. The bends are tight but I was able to make them after some work. Its pipe going through the stake pocket, then bends and goes into the rear sill, than I have flexable line to the gas tank.

Re: Kabwe's aka Bam's build

Any of you guys noticed the seat in the video? That is another change. That sent to me by our forum member hp1957. Cool dude.
At the Brothers Truck Show I was telling him that I could not find the 1988-1995 CHEVY Truck Bench seat with the armrest in my area, not one truck in the yards had this seat in my area. He told me he thought he could find one in his area and he would give it to me at cost plus shipping. Very cool person.
I chop down the mounts and it fits perfect.

They worked perfect. The wife never liked that I was going to run bucket seats, she saw that seat in the truck and told me to get in. She sat down next to me and said "Thats what I'm talking bout".lol

how far off do you see the finish?

LOL.
Well they are never finished, but I'm shooting for making it debut by next summer, but hopefully I'll be driving it before then. All I need now to make it move on its own power is a driveshaft. I have all the new parts to make my own driveshaft I just have not gotten around to it, I've been spending my time with the mechanics and tweaking the engine. I have it all wired, brake lights, headlights, etc everthing is working and all the wires are where they suppose to go. Its all about putting it back together. I still have to paint the doors they are almost ready for paint. The bed will be painted separate. The details are a lot of work sometimes more that the major stuff. You know trying to get everything just right.[/
