This should be interesting. Also, the P/B kit looks awesome! It looks super solid too.

I like the PB stuff too, always great quality. Especially for the price!

This swap however will probably run about $100.

Here is a tread with some more info. I want to do this swap as well. I dont have the tools and fab skils to use all 67-72 parts though. My plan is to use CPP's kit without the arms. Just trying to get the $$ for it. That and I need a set of stock 67-72 arms too....

Lots of good info in that thread!

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

Yeah I read that one. There isn't a whole lot of fab work to do. Probably the most fab work that will need done is the building the upper spring perches. The crossmember will slide right in to the frame. I could use the 68's upper shock mounts and crossmember, but I will probably just build a new one. The more I researched this today, I finally came to the conclusion that this is really a pretty straight forward swap.

Either way you go, you're gonna need a welder. http://www.belch.com/welders/welder.gif

That probably what I am going to do to mine. I love the trailing arm trucks. Jay

bob against my man-hood ablity to weld and normally not give up,, I am going to not do the "fred" stand mod anymore,,, any of you recommend any specific a/c relocator bracket? can my original compressor be used with some of this brackets or am I going to have to buy another compressor? I am doing some slow progress on mine, have the plates to the engine and the shell clamp to the plates,, I took a a valve cover off to see how cleans this 25k mile engine was...I always get nervous but where did you guys attached the hoist to the engine,, I have a engine leveler where I have 4 chains to hook up but I am nervous on where to grab the 5.3/4l60e combo at? .man I ask too many questions.....oh well......I am looking for the plastic housing around the a/c blower fan and the ac condensor looking thing by the fire wall on the pass. side,, I checked lmc but the sell everything except for that piece....and last question.,.. why does my power steering fluid bottle at the pump have 3 hoses? return, highpressure and? thanks on the pics about how to post the pics

btw the small piece of metal between the two rockers is a piece of a valve cover that broke thats why I took it off to change it...

AC compressor relocation options

THE EXPENSIVE ONES BUT???

A LESS EXOENSIVE SOLUTION BUT USES AN EXPENSIVE SANDEN COMPRESSOR

AND HERE IS THE THIRD OPTION

Ya I know. Just FYI, Jeff from CPP said in a thread in the suspension forum he can sell pieces of the kit. That got me thinking that I could just buy the parts to attach the arms and shocks to my rear, the c-notch plate with spring mount built in and the upper shock crossmember. I almost had a complete 72 frame, but missed it by a few hours. So I'm back to buying the arms and using the rest of the kit. I'll keep and eye on how yours works out though....

You may be concerned about the LSx "variable displacement" compressor being
compatible with your earlier factory AC system or with an aftermarket system.

I have no idea what that is.. I saw the bracket prices on the second option there and but I guess I cant use the original compressor? any of you used the original with out the stand mod?

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

You can use the original compressor with the third option. That is, as long as it is the very short compressor like shown on their web page. That is what mine had, but I sold it. I was going to use option #2, the Kwik Perf brackets, but it's looking like I will use the 5.3's compressor.

I had a date with the plasma cutter this morning, and got the trailing arm crossmember, upper shock mount crossmember, and the left side trailing arm mount off of my 68 frame.

I am putting some parts up on Craigslist now too. Need to get some $$$ to buy a Super Track Bar kit from ECE. :metal: Any locals need a pair of front doors, or a pair of Burb rear (2nd row) doors? Hood? L/F fender?

Funny you ask!! :haha:

The guy that will be doing the dyno tune ribbed me about not having the PCM mounted to anything, so I made a mount for it today. It holds it tight enough to not need a strap of any kind, and there are 7 drain holes in the bottom so it won't hold anything. I will probably pull it once every couple years or so to keep it really clean.

Lots of pics to follow:

I HATE those things. Especially when installing, they always hit the firewall and I end up taking them off. I removed the intake and bolted a chain to opposite corners of the heads. I think I did the drivers rear and passenger front.

It might be a vent. What's on the end of the hose? Could you tell where it ran in the truck before you pulled it, or was there too much carnage? I don't think mine has one of those.

probably a hydroboost pump. a pressure line and 2 returns. You can just cap 1 off.

Hydro-boost Pump has 1 Pressure Line and 2 Return Lines.

I can't tell where it went to. Engine came like that. And yes you are right about the leveler hitting the fire wall. But engine is in. Now trying to figure out how to use the flare tool to connect the tank lines to the inline pump.

Bob, that looks great! But I worry about you doing bigger fab work, you may not have enough clamps. :haha:
