I made room in the garage so I could remove the windshield and change the gasket. It had a split at the bottom and water would come into the cab when driving in the rain. Here they are a nestled in. :chevy:

First picture shows how the old owner used roofing tar to patch a hole or something. When it rained the water would come in and spill on the dash and the floor. Surprised there isn't more rust. You can also see the split at the bottom. The gasket also melted back into petroleum form which also melted onto the dash and I think it protected it from the water and it was rust free so I had to clean all that up and after doing so I sanded some of the surface rust off and coated it with Duplicolor Truck Bed liner.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Well, the VHT Chevy orange engine paint went on without a hitch.
Good preparation, cleaning three times over and some head in the steel meant good adhesion. Rattle cans work well if you,are patient and keep the distance equal on every pass. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sdpyi1vn2.jpeg Result, three coats on flat surfaces, more on the bends. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sczlxtxya.jpeg Masked up and cleaned block painted too. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...shpwxipfj.jpeg Very pleased with the results of today's work. Almost 01.00 now, so bed time I would think. Final pic just for Greg "Bomp" in Kaiser, Oregon........... There you go my young friend. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sgdudz8h3.jpeg |

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
I have been making new dash and console panels for my 65 C10- it has a custom dash thanks to my efforts years ago to lighten the truck up for bracket racing. I will post a picture after the dash is back together. Today I primed the panels. Monday I hope to paint them satin black.
I also painted the upper A arms for my 66 C30- I pulled them and cleaned them up back on New Years. I also started disassembly of the LWB fleetside bed I bought for the C30. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Fetched the heads from the garage early.
I removed all the masking and plugging from threads, then with gloves on, brought the heads up to the house one at a time. I hear some of you already clearing your throats and shuffling uncomfortably in your chairs. Some, probably the brave and stupid, which is where I fit in....... Knows what next. I managed to just get both heads balanced in the preheated oven with the door completely shut to heat cure the VHT paint for an hour. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sdbz9fl5l.jpeg And in they went. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...s76hewe2o.jpeg After about 30 minutes it started to smell like a race track in the lounge where I was reading..... So I went into the kitchen to find a light haze of smoke. Easy fix...... Open all the outer doors and windows to the kitchen and rear of the house, isolate from the rest of the house. After the hour, I turned off the heat and opened the oven door for the heads to cool down so I can take them back to the garage later. The place still smelled, but I will leave it all open for a while. Hopefully my next plate of Fish and oven chips does not taste like high mileage multi grade. And of course there will be a Yankee Candle burning in the kitchen most of today......... Mrs Boss is back home in the morning. Took the heads back to the garage, swept the floor, tidied up and also removed all the masking from the book and then proceeded to oil up all the bores, with repeated cranking over to spread a thin film while removing excess, also wiped over the cleaned up mating surfaces. Am I pleased....? http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sj3ueptuf.jpeg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...svt2a8fpd.jpeg You bet. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Finally got the long tube headers installed on my 250. I had to grind one area of the frame and theclutch arm thing to get them to fit, but it all worked out. I really could have used an extra set of hands!
Next is to install the carb and redo the brake tube from the master cylinder, which I nicked while grinding the frame. Dadgumit. |

I went up to my storage/shop space and emptied the bed that I am going to use. I didn't realize how nice it really was. I was only fixated on the right side which was in rough shape. Even the original bed front seems straight. I have a feeling it had a camper shell on it most of its life as you can see the inside lip was not even rusted, surface rust even. Only the right inner wheel tub has a few dents in it. It is going to be nice to have the original bed on my truck.
Also found a tune up tag on the inner fender which I don't remember ever noticing. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
My left turn signal socket fell apart and stopped working. I knew I had another harness up at my shop/storage. I went up to do some things and found a harness in another hood I had. I brought that home and tried plugging it in. Well the left signal worked but then the right one wouldn't. Finally I just said hell with it and cut the left socket off and spliced it in and now I have turn signals and parking lights. Now when my dimmer switch comes in I will have headlights too. woooo hooooo :metal:

Installed Dimmer switch (yay I have headlights again) New windshield wipers to wash away the rain water and my LED dash lights. These are before and after. I have to say one of the lights for my speedo was no good. I know that is why it is so dim but still a big difference.
