Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
She's almost ready to roll Don!
|
Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
You got it going your way now.
It has been on the warm side around here. Do you have a rubber bump stop for your clutch pedal? It mounts like the brake light switch in front of the pedal. Back in the day a lot of times it was missing and the clutch pedal would be higher than the brake. |
Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
Keep it up Don, & you'll be rolling before you know it! It's been really hot around here as well. Be safe out there.

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
Thanx guyz...:metal: I am getting ready to drive this soon...
I posted this question and look forward to wiring help... If you have info on this subject, please click this link and reply...:chevy: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=1#post7651171 I picked up this connector today and need some advice on how it should be wired... https://c5.staticflickr.com/9/8747/2...d1fdb0c6_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr Thanx again for looking in...:mm: |
Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
Thanx to member Notsolo I now have the info I need to wire the alternator correctly...:bann:
I have a resistor on order and know which wires need to be hooked where on the regulator plug...:mm: Resistor should be here Friday... So this morning I rolled the truck outta the tent, removed the seat, so I can fit myself under the dash to finish sorting the cab wiring... After removing the seat, the in-cab fuel tank disappeared... https://c7.staticflickr.com/9/8820/2...1d727bc9_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr The filler hose, probably original equipment pulled apart upon tank removal... https://c4.staticflickr.com/9/8782/2...003f254f_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr I then cut part of the brackets in lieu of drilling spot welds...:sumo: ...they are now ground smooth and waiting for me to paint in order to finish covering any and all yellow from the previous paint scheme... https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8864/2...67e0c750_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr Not sure how I'm going to deal with this hole, notice the spaghetti waiting to be tucked away up under the dash... As for the hole, I've an idea up me sleeve, just not a complete idea...:haha: https://c7.staticflickr.com/9/8655/2...b78e983e_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr Waiting for the temp to start on the downward trend a bit later today before tackling the spaghetti... Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
Friday was productive...
I was able to get the Alternator wiring complete...:uhmk: and in the process thought, I need to test this one to see if it even works...;) It was included in the Serpentine belt setup I bought a few years ago... Results......... No work!!!:thud: at least I have a core for replacement, as it's the same price to purchase a remanufactured unit with a lifetime warranty as it is to have it rebuilt locally with a 3 month warranty... easy math even for me...:bann: Off today and tomorrow, so why not jump into the Brake lines...;) After locating all my parts and pieces, it was off to the parts store to return 2 hoses previously purchased and get the correct one as well as some brake lines complete with fittings... Here's the result of the first trip... https://c5.staticflickr.com/9/8299/2...90d409ee_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr Here's the rubber hose that will feed the lines to each wheel cylinder... https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8593/2...68b31bde_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr ...and a shot of the line feeding the driver's side wheel... https://c7.staticflickr.com/9/8734/2...0ab4a9bc_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr I was planning on getting a bit further today, but a thunderstorm seemed a good enough reason to find my way to my recliner and vegetate in front of the telly for a bit... also gives Jojo a place to hide from the thunder...:haha: More Brake line work tomorrow, and I may even try to get energetic enough to redo the rear brakes, especially replacing the wheel cylinders... til next time guyz and gals!!!:chevy: |
Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
nice work Don… I also like that green brake line, bends so easy, no tools required.
Tomorrow is a good day for brakes… It funny how dogs are afraid of thunder. My 2 big ol' shepherds hide from storms. Hope the boogie man doesn't make loud thunder sounds. |
Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
Thanks for the updates and chat Don.
As Clem says, these brake lines are another cheap, sensible thing to replace on our trucks. 50-ish year old brake lines probably can do e With it. |

Thanx Brotha! :metal:
Yesterday's feel like temp hovered around 103F and the past week or so has been in the 105 to 115F range, serious motivation killer!!!:sumo: Working today and tomorrow with Sunday and Monday off, planning on finishing up Brake plumbing by Monday evening...:uhmk: |
Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
Definitely! You get drenched in sweat before you even get to work on the truck! Me and Carson worked on the GTO yesterday, but we took many A/C breaks and drank lots of water. You're making good progress man, it'll be on the road real soon.

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
Well another job 95% complete...:uhmk:
Spent yesterday and today plumbing the brakes...:metal: In-between Thunderstorms...:dohh: Started at the back, cleaned up the plungers for the wheel cylinders and installed the new ones in order to run the lines... https://c2.staticflickr.com/9/8417/2...1ce5d510_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr https://c7.staticflickr.com/9/8734/2...0ab4a9bc_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8593/2...68b31bde_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr Although the last pic doesn't show the completed line connection, it is now complete, Master cylinder to wheel cylinders, still gotta fab a bracket for the rubber line...;) Today was the front... that is, after a trip to Little Rock for my wife's routine Doctor appt, then Truck time...:bann: As soon as I got the front end up in the air, and climbed under and got the R/side line bent and started getting the tee connected... another quick afternoon T/Storm popped up...:sumo: Slowed me down for about an hour, then back after it... All of the hard lines, Front to Rear are plumbed, and ready for bleeding once I get the rotors turned, and the rear shoes replaced... Other than that, I need to secure the lines and finish up protecting the Wiring harness to the rear... Also a good time to mount the Fuel filter and pump back near the tank... Used a paint can to coil the lines coming from the Proportioning Valve... https://c8.staticflickr.com/9/8258/2...b7d2fe0d_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr Pass/Side line... https://c8.staticflickr.com/9/8042/2...720477d3_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr Driver's/Side back to the tee... https://c3.staticflickr.com/8/7714/2...2849aee3_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr Another shot of the tee, I took the line past the tee and looped back to facilitate easier servicing down the road. The tee is right at the back of the crossmember, so hooking the line up from the rear made sense to me...;) https://c7.staticflickr.com/9/8564/2...42578cec_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr Caliper in place, waiting on me to modify the end to work with the drop spindle... As it is, the end that bolts to the caliper is bent in a way that will run the rubber hose into the upper ball joint... after turning the rotors, this week, I'll address that mod...:metal: https://c2.staticflickr.com/9/8754/2...18231c45_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr As I draw closer to driving this for the first time, the little things still needing attention seem to add up... Gotta make a list...:mm: Til next time...:chevy: |
Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
Well done Don you'll soon have it on the road , and driving it to Clem's this year .

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
After work today, I wrapped the wiring harness feeding the rear in a split loom with the lights wires exiting the rear driver's side frame rail and the Fuel Pump and sending unit wire exiting the loom a bit earlier in the run...
https://c3.staticflickr.com/9/8859/2...9d676b37_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr https://c8.staticflickr.com/9/8792/2...e9f45fac_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr https://c5.staticflickr.com/9/8034/2...10a1e47a_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr I also mounted the fuel pump and pulled the rotors so I can turn them at work tomorrow... https://c4.staticflickr.com/9/8531/2...72a05a9c_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr After some online research, I determined this tank is a LMC offering... Seems it's a 21 gallon side fill version. It was with the truck when purchased and unfortunately, no sender or paperwork can be found... Lastly, I called LMC attempting to figure out what function the fuel tank ports serve... Wasted that phone call as LMC offers ZERO tech support...:banghead: This is a photo of the driver's side of the tank... I believe the center port, just to the left of the fill tube is the vent, and the one to the left of that I am unsure of... https://c6.staticflickr.com/9/8009/2...db8ef9dc_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr This is a photo of the right side , the small port on the side has me confused... it is directly opposite of the smaller fitting on the Driver's side... Looking through the sender hole I cannot see any tube that would draw from the bottom... https://c3.staticflickr.com/9/8575/2...bcae7e5a_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr I will be ordering the sender soon and the pic on the website isn't very helpful, but it looks like there is a pickup tube with a screen attached... so any help is appreciated as to the function of these ports...;) :burnout: |

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
Man, you're about to be driving this thing...I'm getting excited for you! :metal:
|
Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
Hey Don, you're moving right along.
The big port next to the fill is a fill vent that runs up to the fill spout, one of the smaller ports might be a vent port to a canister and the other small port might be a return port. I've not seen your fuel sending unit but some times they have the fuel pick up tube and filter/screen/sock attached. If you're using an in tank fuel pump and sending unit the vent and return may be built into that unit. Good luck on sorting it all out, I know you can do it. Take care. |
Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
Thanx Guyz!!! :mm:
Another few items either finished or nearing completion... ;) This weekend found me focusing on Brakes... It's good to be able to stop...:bann: I started off by getting the Front brakes finished up first, earlier in the week I turned the rotors and then after re-installing them I modified (Bent) the hoses. They had a 90 degree bend which had them pointing directly into the Upper Ball joint thanks to the 2 1/2" Drop Spindles...:dohh: Some Vise grips and an arm work out have them now mounted and bolted in place...:uhmk: https://c2.staticflickr.com/9/8700/2...3f5407c4_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr https://c2.staticflickr.com/9/8619/2...861baaba_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr New pads installed... https://c6.staticflickr.com/8/7764/2...92088f46_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr https://c8.staticflickr.com/9/8897/2...0e20abe8_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr Yesterday, after getting the second caliper bolted in place, a typical afternoon thunderstorm kicked up stopping the rear brake work... The rears had to be done with the truck in the Sunshine... Today my focus was getting the rear brakes complete and ready to bleed the system... Here's the second rebuilt Drum set up just before re-installing Drum and Tire... https://c2.staticflickr.com/9/8350/2...1495110b_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr So, after a trip into town for some parts I neglected to purchase, fuel line, and a hose to connect the Booster...:banghead: JoJo and I spotted a hawk with a fresh kill along the road... https://c3.staticflickr.com/8/7783/2...d93cbde4_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr Just after I snapped that pic, JoJo decided to bark... and the hawk flew into the trees... https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8609/2...0330bbbe_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr Booster hose in place... https://c7.staticflickr.com/9/8714/2...19c7580d_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr Truck getting some rays...:metal: https://c3.staticflickr.com/9/8398/2...c3c517c6_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr A while back, a year or more, MarkeB01 offered some parts for the asking... He listed the items up for grabs and after all was said and done he hooked me up with a few items, including a fuel pressure regulator gauge as well as an isolator... Here's the gauge in it's temporary home under the dash... https://c4.staticflickr.com/9/8585/2...64ec7b3a_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr I still need to grab some fittings to finish the install... Thanks Again Mark!!!:chevy: Brakes are ready to be bled, so is the clutch hydraulic system... Closer and Closer... Ordering my Fuel Sending unit soon, still need to get another alternator too...:D |
