Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Load of stuff going on behind the scenes that is distracting me from giving the truck my full and undevided attention.

Also have a lot of yearly house and yard work plus maintenance to do.

Hopefully tomorrow will see me back on the truck for a bit.

Today though, I had to clear the wooden deck and then also the paving behind the house to pressure clean it all.

Took 9 hours including breaks and distractions.

I still need to brush in the kiln dried sand between the pavers and pain the deck in Ronseal decking oil.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...soapwlip7.jpeg

Amazing what a year does.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...s1gvfxla7.jpeg

Can you say Leg Tattoos?

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...scmhoicy7.jpeg

Done. So though it distracts from the truck build, there are a load of things that needs doing when you own a home.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...s9i1joxxl.jpeg

Through the day I was chatting with my friend Dennis in Missouri as he had not slept all night after having a medical procedure done yesterday.

He was at the body shop early, painted some NASCAR truck parts up, then continued with his little side project.

A 66 C10 onto a NASCAR frame and chassis.

This was his first run, and will be used on a different project later.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...snuwpurkp.jpeg

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sz86czaan.jpeg

Today he was working on the final build unit.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...smc9cbx20.jpeg

Fortunately he knows a decent body shop guy.......

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sipi6s0fx.jpeg

Really nice when you have a load, and I mean a load of NASCAR truck parts free to use.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sfopjeofb.jpeg

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sh8lwsigf.jpeg

Tomorrow may be a wash out for boot fair.

Still,,there will be truck time.

Those house choirs really can get in the way of truck building for sure. Bout ready to have my kitchen blown up for around 6 weeks. That will probably get in the way of much trcuk stuff.

Good luck, hopefully you can have a semi dry boot fair.

you are exactly right about that 'load of things to do when you own a house'.
it's constant, it's expensive and consumes all your time. but… happy wife…

love the little fire truck, and a good job on it, looked like a fun project, and you sold it already?
hope to see you getting a little truck therapy soon, time to take it to the next phase…

we've been working on the wrong years and the wrong brands lately. but keeps the doors open.

Thing is, I have only cleaned up about 25% of the paving, it never really stops.

Thank you for posting SKT.

I post weird n wonderful stuff as I do not believe we are one dimensional, and we all learn from each other, so if my restoration of the little fire truck, inspires or shows the way, then it is great.

Sadly no bootfair Bill, but I did manage to catch up with four weeks worth of expense claims for work.

Keeping the doors open is ultimately what it is about Clem.

The little fire truck sold for £40.00 to a friend who likes quirky things.

I will miss it, but it is very much one of those things that you, eventually fall, over and swear at.

Do you remember the little die cast truck Kim gave me last year?
Mickey next door was around for a coffee yesterday when Imwas pressure cleaning the paving and deck, and saw it....... He totally freaked out about it.
I told him it was rather special and came from a special home.

You,should still show us what keeps the doors open I. The Tuba Trucks thread, I am sure most of us are interested.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

No boot fairs today due to rain, so I spent about four hours doing admin this morning.

Funny how in this great hobby of ours, stuff takes on a whole new value when you do or don't have it.

Martin popped over at lunch time today to deliver on a trade we did previously, he needed quarter windows for his build and I needed some sun visors.

The stalks will need to be cleaned up and painted and the visors will get covered in black vinyl to go with the rest of the interior.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...skrdifdyv.jpeg

When Martin came, he also brought me another treasure.

I bought it off his friend Doof who banger races, this is from a Ford Focus, and he has access to more of them.

Special price to me was £10.00 which I think is fair, as I cannot be bothered to drive however far to a breakers yard, then removing it from a car.
Because I am removing the viscous coupled fan from the 350 motor, and due to the type of potentially slow traffic we have here in the UK, having an electric override makes more sense.

It's also a perfect fit over my standard radiator.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sbnskpli6.jpeg

Of course things are not always simple, and despite getting the plug and wiring included, I now have 6 wires to deal with, two fans that are in one unit, but are actually different sizes. It also has two of the six wires feeding some unit with a spiral and resistor or transistor, see pic below.
Any idea what that is for?

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...s9staqvza.jpeg

This is the underside of the fan unit where the two wires feed to.

No idea what it is for at this point.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sgbvfudit.jpeg

In other news, more truck directed actions today.

Martins engine stand came back and now my transmission is mounted on it, awaiting its service, shifting kit and new seals.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...snue08zcl.jpeg

We also got the truck back on four wheels, new steering parts fitted, and the drop link etc refitted.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...smcavufko.jpeg

One more bit of cleverness from Martins day job, which is always about checking and double checking and legal culpability Is to mark your nuts with red paint.

So I went into the house and asked Nicola for some red nail polish.......

Every nut and split pin fitted and torqued down was marked so that I can see where things have been done.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...s22ubjpbg.jpeg

HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY..........!!!

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...s8w5umexc.jpeg

And that is another weekend over.

Just throwing it out there, something that we use in the aircraft industry to mark nuts and bolts and other fasteners after they are torqued or to identify slippage is called torque seal or anti-sabotage lacquer. Works good, looks good and is cheap and not messy

To me this was just a way to identify where I have been.

Typically, when you don't want to repeat stuff, the whole write up deletes itself just as you add the last pic.

Anyway, take 2

Came home late, and by 7pm I was out to paint the deck and other wooden structures around the BBQ.

Took an hour to complete and by 8.30 I had cleaned up and packed up.

Next job is to find some time to complete the side and front paving pressure cleaner treatment.

Chatting to Dennis tonight, he sent this pic, I think this thing is going to look very cool.

the house looks great and the darker deck matches up nice. easy to see why you're proud of it.
like your buddys race truck, its a very interesting project. looks like it will be scary fast. if you like this generation of truck and got a lot of nascar parts, what are you gonna build…

hows the new job treating ya?

Houses are BUGGERR, always needing attention. And I do like it decent looking.

Dennis' truck will be great, he has build loads of cars, trucks and bikes over the years, so having a NASCAR based truck should be interesting.

My new job is challenging, but my manager is happy, so I guess I just need to keep at it.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Started my long weekend with a trip over to Gravesend to see Andy and pick up an old Post Office petrol can for myself, and one for Paul Y.
The one for Paul was left with Martin when I went there to give him a hand with his cab, as Paul will be there tomorrow.

While I was with Andy, he offered me some more imperial tools, and a nice old Post Office toolbox.

Life really is good.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sddvhs0y2.jpeg

So after 90 minutes and a great cuppa tea, it was off to Martins place and eventually home after 9pm.

Also in the mail this week was this rather special bit of kit.

Anyone know what it is meant to do?

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...s5u2l0kjg.jpeg

Tomorrow is a load more yard work and then at 5pm the fire gets started...... Yup, it's BBQ time.

Bedtime now, I hope to be out back with the pressure washer by 07.00

Loads to do this weekend that really needs doing.

Nope, answer below.

Well, firstly, the answer to the question.... Think Camel Toe, think Camel Foot.

Yes, this was an extender for my side stand on the bike. They need it.

Fitted to the 1200GS on Saturday morning early.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...srobrpawv.jpeg

I had a few plans for the weekend, most of it yard jobs and house maintenance.

Typically though, things are never simple.

While I was cutting the grass at 08.30 Mickey from next door came around with this on a sack barrow, he was going to throw it out, thankfully he told me before he did, so I laid claim to it.

Already planted up. Pepsi can For size perspective.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sgluvaxne.jpeg

I did actually have some truck time too, mainly finding bits I previously hid from myself.

Mostly, I had Harley squeaking and getting in the way, she loves the garage when I am down there.

And she loves the truck still......

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...s1hh1nsvj.jpeg

Later Martin and Andy cam e over for a BBQ, which went as well as it always does. The wings were great.

Today was early Boot fairs, then I went off to another friend, Kevin's place where Martin was collecting 30 concrete paving slabs, soon he will have no grass in his yard.

I have known Kevin for about 13 years, family friend and bike buddy.

He was doing a significant enlargement of his patio with sleepers and some serious trenching needed to be done as well as a load of soil removal. So I was there by 11.00 to get going.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...s0tys22ub.jpeg

The trench averages at 900mm or 3 foot deep.

Then we had a load of sleepers to measure and cut into threes.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sowiapdnr.jpeg

Leaving us with this pile of short sleeper sections. A bit like Adult Jenga.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...srquxw3zh.jpeg

Much sweating, swearing and digging went on, we had lunch at 16.00 which consisted of left over BBQ, coffee and a few Kit Kat choccies.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sr9jgnjpo.jpeg

And still we carried on.

By 8pm we had run out of gravel for the foundation.
I had also managed to break the large shovel we were using.

Anyway, tomorrow it's back to part two to finish the sleeper wall if the weather holds out.

Kevin was a happy man.

I did not realise just how incredibly unfit I am, well, I did, but this sort of job reminds you.

Tomorrow is a public holiday in the UK, so there will be time.

Sooooo looking forward to spending time with you guys and all the cats (and the dogs down at the shop)

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Back at Kevin's by 09.00 today to carry on with digging the rest of the trench and build the wall. Well, the building and spirit level are his department, so I could blame him if it looked poop, but it did not.

Only one boot-fair today, being a public holiday, but got an almost new shovel for £3.00 to replace the one I broke last night.

Kevin's son Jonathan came over to help a bit as well.

While they went off to buy some more bags of gravel, I turned all the bricks into hardcore with a lump hammer.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ssbn4pnd2.jpeg

When they came back, Kevin and I carried on with the wall while Jonathan disappeared indoors.

About half an hour later........

This presented.... Well worth the wait.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sii9e2khe.jpeg

Another long day, but by 17.00 this was the view.

Next up the rest of the garden bed comes out, the old paving gets lifted and the floor gets dropped another 100mm, then new paving and a set of steps up onto the lawn.

Turned out great so far.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...s9kmeqpik.jpeg

Last night chatting with Dennis in St Louis, he showed me his truck progress.

The man is moving right ahead.

I do look forward to seeing this completed.

Rian, that is so weird. this weekend i laid some used rail sleepers in my garden and smashed a load of bricks upto to use as hardcore!

Then you know how much sweat it generated.

I prefer real sleepers/ties.

Your truck seemed happy carrying a load too.

Mate Kevin and I both have the same model 1200GS motorbikes, in fact he has a brand new one as well, but the older one is used by his son.

Last week, before the gardening saga, we placed an order for two Odyssey Extreme Gel batteries for our bikes as he could take delivery at work for us.

Last night he came over to drop mine off.
When I wanted to pay him for the battery, he refused the money saying he wanted me to accept it as thanks for the digging I did over the weekend. With little choice, I now have a "Free" battery for the bike. Thank you Kevin.

He also brought me this perfectly proportioned locking toolbox with two keys for the truck bed. And yes, I almost always have a phone with camera in my pocket.

It is ideally sized for some bits one may want to carry along, and will fit neatly inside the bed.

Another big Thank You.

Little by little things are coming together for the truck.

Thank you Bill, I am very pleased with it, as it will be useful.

Though it is not my truck, Dennis my friend is not an IT type, he has better stuff to do with his time.

Thought it was still worth posting up,here.

Remember these bedsides Dennis was going to fit to his NASCAR themed truck?

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...so9baa5g4.jpeg

He was going to move the wheel opening forward 6 inches to fit the race truck chassis.

So when he started to work on the bedsides, he found a bit of filler..... Then some more.

And then this.........

What sort of knob turns out this sort of work and then covers it with a shiny coat of metallic paint?

Not a lot to be said for the previous owner and body man who did this job.

Seems he has the truck those came from, on sale for $22k it will be interesting to know the quality of workman****.

Bedsides are now in scrap pile.

It's unbelievable the "standards" some people work to, surely it would have been quicker to repair it properly!!. That definately beats my hex wrench check link

Here is the link to the seller of the truck those bed sides came from.

Be interesting to know how the rest of the truck compares to that panel

https://stlouis.craigslist.org/cto/5576133073.html

Thats the sales link to the truck.

Wonder if its a documented build?

Was tempted to contact the seller and then ask him if restvof truck was same as panel he sold on.

Indeed...... I say bring back Crucifiction.

Unusually, I slept late today, after a cat chorus at 05.00 and then another at 06.00 so I fell asleep just when I was going to get up at 06.00 but that was great, my body seemed happy with that.

So when I got up, it was pull stuff out the garage, get the new battery fitted to the bike, I have not ridden it for about 8 months, crazy I know..... But that's life.

Happy to have it out again. MOT next weekend.

Then cut the grass and did a few other yard jobs that need doing.

Paul Y was coming over today to use the blasting cabinet to clean up some parts he will be having plated etc.

When Paul came we had a cuppa tea, some serious discussions and then down to the garage where we discussed how to build a practical carport in front of the garage.

Opinions, views, advice, suggestions and knowledge of UK building regulations for carport X welcomed.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sy3yovz1g.jpeg

Then we both got started on the real jobs of the day.

Pauls results were good, he had a pile of stuff, some small bits and some large to clean up.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...s1krkvnmg.jpeg

I needed to replace the brake line junction over the rear axle as I had bought a new one, but never fitted it. Once that was done, I decided to remove the fuel line that was still in place on the chassis.

When the truck got fitted with its relocated tank, the idiots (builders) in charge added some ally pipe and rubber hose junctions to get the fuel from there to the motor.

So I went down to the industrial estate just after 3pm and got a roll of 20' in 5/16" copper pipe and rubber pipe although I only needed 10' so I now have a load spare.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...szvafgm3t.jpeg

Straightened it out to the pattern of the originals.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sf9scu3lf.jpeg

New fuel filter as well.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...smzaqmceq.jpeg

Fuel pump end of the new line.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sdauwzwbe.jpeg

Rear end where I finished the brakes, and of course new pipe, filter and tank in position.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...sdj8ygpze.jpeg

I did not do a lot today, but I am happy these little jobs are done too.

Bootfair weather promises to be good tomorrow.
