If the rear seal is shot I'd put the bushing in when I was there. I'd make a lock plate instead of buying the whole magilla, personally.

Installed the short tilt I purchased from 70shortfleet took about an hour. Nice having the wheel further away and up . Makes getting in and out much easier but I’m a little stumped on the grey wire I’m assuming it’s for the indicator light but I can’t find where it would connect. Mine had the fiber optic wire from the dash bulb

that wire goes to the fuse box, where it powers on when you turn on your lights.

Can you pull the tailshaft on the transmission without a complete disassembly? If so, I may dig deeper. If not, I may see if this seal will hold for now.

Anybody got dimensions on the speedo gear housing retainer? Doesn't look like something that would be hard to fab up.

Was looking for a wire under the dash

Found it it's where the light for the cigarette lighter lite is plugged into. For now I put the indicator there and I'll write up a pigtail

We used to just force them further into the transmission and install the new bushing. True fact.

This was put together by the Northwest C10 group (can be found on Facebook) and the cruise was in Enumclaw, WA. It is planned to be there again next Spring.

Thank you. I wanted to "spark it up" a bit over the original medium blue & white two tone, but keep it "era correct" The color was available in 72 but only on the flashier models - corvette, camaro, chevelle, etc.

What else did I do today? I got my email from Quadrajet Power they have started on my rebuild and now have paid for the work! It should be here soon! YAY!!

Hi, we have disassembled and evaluated your 7042208 for your level 2 performance build for you 72 C10. Carb was clean, but had several calibration errors typical from a commercial remanufacturer as they try to make all carbs generic. We will correct the calibration specific for your build and replace all of the serviceable parts.

This past Tuesday, I pulled the uno barrel carb off my truck to check for a leak. Nothing was wet, but I haven't run it much since November, so everything in the bowl likely leaked out & dried. Found a bolt was missing that held the base part to the midsection. Went on a mad hunt for another screw at every hardware store in town. Had to settle for a bolt. Just got the tags legal on Friday. As long as the weather will cooperate, I'll get the tires dirty tomorrow.

I just got all of the front end Porterbuilt level 3 parts hung on my 1970 donor frame. Hoping to finish up the odds and ends this week and start cutting Crossmembers out of the rear end so I can start on that!

The steering column in my truck has an excessive amount of wear. I had to weld up a groove that was worn deep into shift detent plate a while back just so it wouldn't pop out of park without pulling back on the shift lever. The shift bowl has loads of slop in it. Below is a video that shows the shift bowl looseness. The linkage that connects the column to the transmission was not moving at all in this video. I scored another '68 column out of a low mileage truck that is super nice and doesn't have any looseness or detent plate wear. I disassembled and painted it last night.

Replaced the divorced choke thermostat. I then played with my idle mixture a bit and found it was too rich on one side and blocked on the other. A blast of Gumout took care of the blockage. Mo'bettah now.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Replaced my steering column last night with the low mileage unit, and the looseness in the shifting mechanism is gone. The solid 67-68 steering shaft sure makes the column a pain to remove and install!

Replaced my speedometer cable just now. My old one would randomly start bouncing, so I got tired of trying to lube it. I got so lucky on that 1st mounting position in the engine bay. It was more or less finger tight. I thought I was going to have to loosen the outer wheel/fender cover!

Test drive shows the speedometer still working (that's good) and so far no bounce (even better). But I will have to go a month without bouncing to know if it is really gone!

Also installed my carb heat shield. Time will tell if it was worth it....

In the process of replacing my old stereo which was acting up, with a half stereo that doesn't even have a CD player.

Yes I had butchered the radio opening in the dash long ago, but fortunately and just by luck the replacement has exactly the same size opening...WHEW!

May as well throw in a semi "Sideways Saturday" shot of my filthy toy while I'm at it. :)

I thought my little c10 was a 4x4 today. Took it out in the woods, dropped the LF tire over bank, and busted my driver side manifold clean-half in two. We hooked up a chain and pulled it back up on the road (skidder trail). We unbolted the pipe and rallied the old truck 15 miles back home sounding like a derby car

So what did I do today? Made a mess of both of my doors! Mucked up the anti-rattle on the passenger side and broke my Lower Glass Channel in the driver side. Though I think it was ready to break at any moment, so it was a controlled brake at not while in a drive-thru. Or at least that is what I keep telling myself!

I took the truck for about an hour long ride. Nice ride along the river and over the mountain. Love to drive it after the engine rebuild over the winter. Managed to lose a hub cap though. Bummer, they are the originals.

I changed the fuel filter after work this afternoon. Actually, I installed a fuel filter. I'm almost frightened at the thought of there not being a filter in there for so many years.

I enjoyed the photo progress of the rebuild of your 327. I had mine rebuilt about 3 years and 24,000 miles ago. One thing that I remember is that I got horrible gas mileage in the under 1,000 mile range of break in. It took awhile for the new newly rebuilt parts to mesh with another.
