Still, great little conversation piece.

The second one was better, but I nicked the Conroe twice with the grinder as its crank case was a sealed unit.

Well, both Bootfairs were a bust, they were on, but all I managed to get was one small vintage Butlins holiday camp peanut plate for Nicola @£1.50 which is more than double what I would normally pay, but she grew up with the Butlins holiday camps and will be going there next weekend with a group of her school mates.

Plate is smaller than a Victorian saucer.

I am often appalled at what gets tossed, so much new stuff.
Yesterday there was a load of heavy duty Dexian shelving and framework, all obviously new......

Still, I will continue to exploit other people's stupidity and glut, to feed my own habits. Every time I get something free, and can pass it on, or use it myself, it releases money to go into my mortgage. Easy.

I did buy some 16mm spindles for the bench polisher on EBay last night.

So hopefully those will be here this week too.

Bootfair sucked big time today.

So came home and completed a load of small tasks that should have been done a long time ago.

Including the redesign and repair of the relocated battery carrier.

Earlier today I made a two faced robot from the bits of left over chainsaw as well.

His name is Bazateer or Reetazab depending on which one you speak to.

I also had mate Gene pop over for a few hours for coffee and a chat, and to collect the small hobby lathe I Freecycled on a truck forum.

Gene is a popper traditional hand written Sign Writer. And I for one love his work.

Thanks Don, you are right, Baz identified the robot in the wheelbarrow, as had I.
So I named it after him, except I withheld one of the Z's

Thank you Ian, I am happy now that it can hold the battery diagonally.

Robot made me grin when I finished it, will be interesting to see what Nicola thinks of it, she has been with her daughter for the weekend.

Rain and more rain.

Perfect for a public holiday Monday when there are so many shows etc planned.

I was going to find some procrastination project to do, then realised the inner fenders will never clean themselves.

So armed with about 3 liters of petrol a couple of soft and hard brushes and a putty knife, I started on the greaser, dirtiest one of the two. Sat outside in the rain, I got thoroughly soaked, but the first one followed by the second one which was not as oily, got done, then I washed them both with the hard brush and about 3/4 bottle of Cif/Hany Andy ammonia based kitchen cleaner to get the oily grease off, washed and rinsed with buckets of water from my perpetually refilling water butt, I was eventually happy.

Both sides are now ready for paint prep, primer coat followed by Satin Black Two Pack paint.

Yesterday I started to reassemble to cleaned, painted and MX5/Miata Motorwd heater unit, only to realise all the screws, 32 of them, were dirty and not very good looking, so steel brush, poked through some cereal box cardboard and both the heads and threads satin blacked as well.

So today after the inner fenders I finished reassembly of this unit and packed it away.

The lid is away with Ian Brown for some special under hood treatment.

The red you can see is a high density foam gasket I made to seal the fan to the metal case.

A while ago I agreed to put some stripes on the "blower box" lid for Rian's truck. Now before you read on I have to point out that I'm no expert pin-striper, but it is something I enjoy doing but I'm along way off the standard of the pros we all marvel at.

I collected the lid when we were all at the Supernats early August. Rian had blasted and painted it for me, unfortunately the primer Rian had used had reacted a little so rather than take any chances I stripped it back to bare metal, then etch-primed it followed by a good old coat of 2K black.

I asked Rian if he had anything in mind design wise and he said could I do a growling grizzly bear? I made a stencil and this was also put on in 2K as you can flat it right out and polish it smooth

Next I marked out the outside border for the design, with it being under the hood I wanted a heavy (ish) line so it would be visible from a distance

I used an Excalibur 00 and 1 shot (what else?). I always pallet up on an old catalogue as the paper is ideal for loading your brush and you can just tear off the page for the next clean sheet. (It also has the added advantage of becoming quite interesting when you get the underwear section :lol:).

I do love the roads in the UK........ Did 162 miles in 6 hrs yesterday.

Huge delays everywhere.

However, sometimes weird stuff happens for good reasons.

Had I been to see the customers I had planned at the time I had planned and not got delayed, I would have been in Romford, an hour from home by 3pm.

However, I found myself waiting for a customer at 3.30pm about 2 hrs from home.

When I came out from seeing the customer at 4pm, there was a message on my mobile to say my front end rebuild kit for the truck had arrived in Watford from New York where it got shipped from. I checked with Steve Lang to see where he was, and by a stroke of luck he was about 6 miles up the road on my way out to the M25 motorway and seeing as the motorways would be swamped with afternoon traffic and my local motorway the M2 was in a bad way, I decided. To go pick up the parts.

Langey's Hotrod Shop as he is known, will import parts on your behalf at direct - $ for £ - exchange rate. This allows him some profit, covers the import duties and VAT etc and gets done pretty pronto. The alternative is EBay or local shops at pretty much the same price.

Meeting Steve to collect my parts, we ended up talking cars, engines and life in general for nearly an hour....time flies like that.

He was working on his Willys Gasser Pickup, fine tuning the door figment.

I was absolutely shattered last night and did not even unpack, inspect or gloat about the kit, or the latest painful hiding I had bought myself.

Next job will be attempting to undo all the existing parts without destroying my knuckles or and threads, and fitting the we parts successfully.

I feel much pain coming my way, but it's the only way to do this truck so that I can enjoy it in the long term.

I already reported on this cover, but have to say, in hand, it is even more impressive.

I am seriously pleased and impressed with it. It is so difficult to capture the texture and look of this piece in a photo.
