Looks like he forgot to release the gate before dumping it.

You can see the lever still closed.

I'm surprised enough gravel stayed on the gate to hold the truck up.

Looks by the mud flaps like he jerked it forward, then the big surprise!

The first post are test loads on 55-2878 Quick Haul 12's from Buffalo, NY, Westboro, MA and Edison, NJ (Rangers)
This post has Test loads from Westboro (1&3)
The "Quick 6" I can't remember where. They were built for around big airports and in this case, GM had a program where Caddy dealers could buy out of a pool at the railhead or nearby plant and not to have them on their lot, on their floorplan. We would have to deliver them within 24 hours of the retail sale.
#3 picture is of what we referred to as an 11 Car. You have a ton of pictures of them on your Flicr account.
I love the picture of the 2600 Quickloader. When they were first built, they were too long for MA and we got stopped for overlegnth constantly. They were my favorite trucks to load. We were always with too much "Ovrerhang" which is different from overlength.

That's a Commercial Carriers car hauler. Ryder bought them and that's what M&G folded into so the pictures of the trucks I posted are from the same company.

How long did they run those? Do you know the story behind the cab design? Here is a Ford version

I just realized these pictures threads have become a bit screwed up... and I've been going right along with it. This thread is for GM trucks and we have other makes being show. And we have the "Trucks Are Beautiful" thread for other makes with GM trucks being posted there. Not a real big deal, but these threads have been running a long time sticking to their original form. Let's keep it that way from here on.

You're right! My carhaul truck was the last of the White/GMC Volvos.
I have no idea how long they ran those trucks. The Convoy Co. got melded into Allied Systems that bought the carhaul division of Ryder so I ended up working for them, also.

Re: GM Semis

Those non-GM car haulers came from my Flickr pages. Whitehead and Kales built about 10 of the Dodges for Comm Carriers about 1950. The Convoy was also one of about ten Convoy built in their shops in Portland. Other photos and details on Flickr. Bay Colony mentioned overhang. Look at the over hang on this rig.

You probably know this: That tractor with two GM cabs is a Coleman, built for the Air Force.

Aircraft toter, right? I had no idea what I had found when I saw that one locally. I never talked to anyone about it, but wanted to track down the owner. Once I got on the internet searching up old truck pictures I found another one with some info. Sure would be a cool antique truck show vehicle

Check this little "semi" out

Re: GM Semis

Cool ad. I remember one in particular. The sound of it is what got first got my attention. Funny, they stopped for a while and then started again in the late 70's. Would had been nice if they just kept them going. Although the later one was a turbo.

The other strange thing is they were only available in Chevys and not GMC's in the 60's when they were offered. Guess GMC didn't want any competition with the Toro-Flow, but they still could have offered both.

Interesting truck.

A 5000 with Air Brakes, Heavy Axle with Wide Fenders and 10 Bolt Lugs.

Must have a 401.

If it had a 478, it would have been a 6500.

Nice trucks and a good load of hay there.

Looks a lot higher than 13-6.

They're 7 bales up. Should be but 13.6 but we're good for 14'0 out west.

Good looking truck.

Dayton vs Budds.
