Nice 54, the stance of the newer style frame fits the body well, only thing I don't like is the top rad hose, just looks odd to me, so pretty much as close to perfect as one can get.

Funny thing mudman, but I agree. I just never really noticed it before. Go figure.

Re: How about some pics of 47-59

Have seen many S10 chassis used and a lot of them need special rims to get the wheels out to fit the body or just look off, yours just hits it perfect, stance is dead on. So it looks old...but is new.

Very nice! I couldn't tell from the pix, did you keep the straight axle? What steering box are you using? cool subtle color..

Re: How about some pics of 47-59

It does still have the straight axle my wife wanted it to look stock, steering box is the Toyota power steering box.

Nice truck!

What's the deal with the center bolts on the valve cover on a 235? Thought that ended with the earlier straight sux?

Dan, Patrick's lists a stud kit required for '54 to'62 to run the Wayne valve cover. Guessin' it's some kind of adaptor kit.

No kit on this one, it's a 55 truck and this 235 was in it, never checked the numbers to see what year it was, looked like it was the one it came with but there are people on this site that know more than me about a 235.

Hmmm....I'm not an expert on stovebolts but I THINK that means you've got a 216 and not a 235. If that's true then you don't have full oiling via an oil pump, you've got a splasher system.

Can someone here with more knowledge than me(meaning most of you, lol) chime in?

Splash oilers were the 216's and 53 235's, full pressure oilers were 54-62's. Starting in 54 a bypass external oil filter was also an option.

As Old Crow correctly states, the cool looking Wayne valve covers requires a stud relocation kit and ideally a 216 valve gasket.

The TF 235's also have the water pump positioned lower so without checking block numbers for confirmation that is probably an original or similar year engine that have been very nicely upgraded.

Sorry, guess I could have included a little more info.
I bought the truck when I was 15 for $500, and I've owned it for 16 years now. I put a 350 small block in it with a Turbo 350 Trans. The rear end is out of a 1976 Camaro and has the stock Camaro gears (can't remember the ratio I'd have to look it up). I used an adapter kit to put the Camaro disc brakes on the stock front spindles and a power brake booster to complete the brake system. Then installed a painless wiring kit to convert it to 12V. I added a GM tilt steering column and power steering unit to finish off the steering. And then got started on the body work by creating a seamless hood and my own design to finish off the back of the truck (tailights, rear bumper, etc.) Had to install multiple patch panels because of rust as well. I consider it a work in progress though, there's still a lot of things I would like to do with it. Soon I will be looking for some expert advice here on upgrading the suspension as well as steering for the front end....to be continued.

Unless you have a 235 out of a 53 powerglide car. They look just like the 216 with the center bolt valve covers. They are full pressure 235's. I had one in my 50 Chev that I used to have. The only outward way to tell the difference besides the numbers is that Babbitt motors (216,235) have a triangular plate and small tube bolted to the side of the block right behind the exhaust pipe. The 53 Powerglide motors don't have this plate. 53 Powerglides were the only cars to get this motor besides the new Corvette's. Then in 54 they redesigned the motor.
I know this to be a fact. I had my pickup for 15 years and did a ton of research on it and the motor because of what the PO told me about it. It didn't add up to what the internet was telling me about 235's. He was right, course he was the one that put the motor in it back in the late 50's.

sweet70, great info, you mind posting a photo of this plate? I actually have quite a few 235's for some future builds. I also have a 53' belair powerglide. It would be nice if it was a 235 as you state.
