That's "garage porn" if I ever saw/heard it! Woodrow?

Sweet, bud!

Hey, did you ever order those seats we talked about? Curious about first impressions, if you had.

Keep up the work man, could be a mid-summer finish!

Great job getting it together & running.

The squeal could be that it is low on trans fluid. Have you warmed it up, let it shift through all the gears (with the rear end on jack stands) and topped off the fluid yet?

It needs to cycle through all the gears to purge out all the air in the passages so you can accurately top off the fluid.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

:metal: thanks guys! today i'm going to drill and tap the new water pump(if it came in) and plug the steam vent on the radiator. i've been staring at that hose and its bothering me. doesnt look right... then get the new water pump on and filler up w/ antifreeze.

that noise bothers the heck outta me though... need to put on the bottom of the bell housing and see if its still loud. not sure if its normal.

i tried that but i dont have the drive shaft. fluid got everywhere! i keep adding fluid though... may have to wait till its all together. i hope i didnt hurt anything being low on fluid.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

the 6.0 seems to run great. i let it get up to operating temp so the thermostat opened. added a total of 12 quarts of dexron 6 to the tranny. still making that wierd squeal noise. not as loud now i think. just going to wait till i get the drive line. overall i am finally happy:D just hope my 3 piece covers fit still.

going to figure out a cold air intake next...

oh yea, the painter sent me a progress pic to my phone yesterday. the firewall is ready for primer! going to go over and see it today after work

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

Is that steam line mod to the water pump a common mod? and a way to handle the steam line for those w/o the extra port on the radiator? just never seen it before.

menace121978 05-29-2010 08:40 PM

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

its pretty common. same way s & p does theirs and i read about it in ''how to swap an lsx into anything'' book. it really cleans things up. s&p has even mounted their coolant temp sensor on the top of the water pump. i was kinda hesitant on drilling a hole into a new $300 pump but what the heck it worked out;)

68GMCCustom 05-29-2010 09:38 PM

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

I guess you just did it with the w/p off? With a drill press or by hand?
I need to take my w/p off anyway to swap in a different cam so I could just do this then. Only thing I was thinking of... is connection point just needs to be "above" the steam line itself, correct?

menace121978 05-29-2010 10:12 PM

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

i did mine with the w/p off and by hand. i'm not sure what you mean by above though.
