After driving it around awhile, and the giant puddle of fluids underneath - I didn't want it to be my first automotive project. I need something a little less rough around the trans/engine as I start this journey. I'm sure that I could have parted it out and made more than $1400, but that's not the goal (nor do I have the space for that). |

Another possible platform to launch my automotive tinkering/restoration...
Not sure on the 3-speed manual on the floor in 71. https://seattle.craigslist.org/est/cto/5844953191.html But for $1,200, the surface rust may be the only real problem! |

two jaw dropper Cheyenne Super shorties on ebay. 1st one has a 350 and no SPID is shown - but it has the correct and oft overlooked stainless cover on the tailgate handle. 2nd one is gorgeous, but tailgate handle is painted and, if you dig into the photobucket link, SPID shows it was originally a lwb white/ochre Cheyenne with saddle interior. Something seems amiss - the pic of the glovebox door with the owner's manual laying over the SPID area looks like a different gb door than the one shown with the SPID. Might be my imagination. Don't care, whether either is original or a shortened clone, they are both gorgeous. Hope they get their money out of them - but if bidding, know what to look for! I'd want to see the SPID on the black bucket truck (1st one), and, if it's a legit 115 black w/black buckets super, I think the starting bid isn't far off.. (EDIT: well, not far off for someone that can afford it) But who knows what the reserve may be. Again, very nice trucks.

Re: Post Your Craigslist Finds
They are both very nice.....however the second one looks like the frame was re-welded improperly with a straight cut and no gussets.

Would it have a 12 bolt with that engine combo?

Re: Post Your Craigslist Finds
Anyone have thoughts on this truck?
https://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/5849878267.html Heading up there tomorrow to take a look at it (3 hour trip) and hopefully purchase. From my limited knowledge, it looks like a 71 Cheyenne. Lady says that it's been passed down in the family from the original owner (the grandfather) and she's sending me the VIN - the PID is gone from the GB. Hopefully the hunt is over and I can stop bothering this thread and move over to a build thread :metal: |
Re: Post Your Craigslist Finds
It's cheaper in Portland than it is in Biloxi, but at least in Biloxi it has MS plates.

Re: Post Your Craigslist Finds
This was incorrect after seeing the truck
Quote:
The truck was very nice inside but with some rust. The nicest/cleanest dash I've seen. It was used to run back/forth to the dump and I'm not sure the engine was ever taken care of (original, had a mouse nest in glove box and on top of carb). Quote:
Not afraid of welding, sanding, grinding, electrical, etc - just never done engines outside of engineering school 13 years ago. Want a truck that can get me the 10 mile round trip to Central Welding, Home Depot, etc while still having many weekend projects over the next years to have a nice truck for the next 30 years (I don't want to just buy a truck... won't learn anything and where's the fun in that ) https://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/cto/5852377165.html Another possibility. My guess is that it needs an engine replacement... I won't be able to handle that but for the right price - it may fit in my budget considering the cost of basic crate engines. |

That last one looks pretty good to me .

Pretty solid and priced for us northeast folks used to seeing more holes than this one has. Not sure I believe the production numbers this guy quotes but I've only seen one other 4x4 burn around here and it wasn't a slant nose. Still K20 v8 4spd burn can't be all that common. |

I'm trying to find a 4x4 67-72 to be my first project, and teach me something about automotive mechanics, total newbie here. Being on the east coast and not at all looking forward to rust repair I'm considering shipping something to MD (about a $1000 cost).
This truck is not currently running, he knows the previous owner put some bondo repair on it before powdercoating and giving it this paint job. He believes the frame bed cab etc are original becuase it has 4 drum brakes but he's only had it for 2 years. Has a SM465. But no sticker on the glove box. So, is this truck going to be too much of a project? I have a father and brother in law that are skilled mechanics and can do the labor to replace this engine. But who know what else is wrong. Or should I just keep looking and try to find a driving 4wd with little to no rust thats within my budget (as close to or under $8k as possible) This is the craigslist post https://albuquerque.craigslist.org/cto/5795705038.html And a video he sent me of the truck https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZdXB6I5jPM Thanks so much for all the help, any and all advice greatly appreciated - Nancy |
