Re: 1968

I ordered the right bumper for my truck today. The ad stated for a step side truck and I even sent them a e mail asking if this was the right bumper. They said it was so I ordered it from Summit, it will be here on the 20th of this month.
Swamp rat I am glad also that I didn't have to go with all the steps you outlined.

I got conformation on the rear bumper. It will be here VIA FedEx Tuesday Jan. 20th.
then I can start back on my truck. I need the bumper to adjust the rear Camaro gas tank. Then I can get started with the wood floor.

No those are foam, I have a set of those. They tear so easy that is why I am wanting rubber. I am still waiting for the rear bumper.

My front bumper came in this morning. It was suppose to come in on the 20th. 4 days early who is complaining. At last I got the right bumper. I will install the bumper today. maybe. The grand kids are taking over the front room as you can see. Got to love them.............................

Well, today I installed the rear bumper. I put new bumper bolts on the bumper. One bolt gave me a problem. About half way it would not tighten or loosen up any. So I had to get my cutting tool out and cut the bolt off. I installed a new one and everything is a ok.
Tomorrow, I will adjust the gas tank so it centers in the square hole I cut in the bracket a month ago. If you look close enough you can see the tank sets a little too high and a little forward. I will correct that problem tomorrow. I am saving up for the front bumper next. Maybe next week, I will order it. Also I will be ordering a set of tail gate chain covers. These are to stiff as you can see.

I ordered a rear bumper from LMC after I received it I discovered I ordered a fleetside and not a stepside. It cost to much to ship it back after all it was my mistake. I will sell it or find a truck it will fit. I ordered a show quality rear bumper from ecklers, I haven't got it yet.:chevy:

yea I understand. When I ordered the bumper it stated it would fit my step side, well when It came it would fit but, it was to long. It was for a fleet. the company understood and took it back with any problem. They even paid for the shipping. I would do business with them again. The company is a jam up company. here is where they can be located. autopartswarehouse.com they are on e bay.
Classic parts sell it cheaper, but they do not ship for free and they do not take pay pal. Good luck with your build.

yea, this bumper is 6 inches shorter. I like the way it fits. The only problem that I had was when I mounted the tag support. It takes four 3/8 carriage bolts. But the fourth one was a little off. So I only installed three. It can's be seen and it's only holding a tag and bracket. I did not want to re drill the hole and take a chance in damaging the bumper. Maybe later I will take a rat tail file and do the support to receive the fourth bolt. Maybe.

Today I adjusted the Camaro gas tank to the rear bumper. I mounted this old tag I found in a truck I parts out. This way I know how much room I have. I also hooked up the tag lights and the ground to the gas tank. Got everything taped up rear good. I hope to order my front bumper some time this next week.

Do you think you could take a picture of your bumper from the side. I'm not sure if mine is fitting correct. Thank you:chevy:

Rear bumper & camaro gas tank install looks good George ! Could you do me a favor & measure the stepside bumper....the exact length, end to end ? I don't want to buy the wrong one for my truck while searching at a swap meet or craigslist. Thanks in advance !

A fleet side bed bumper is 78 inches long
A step side rear bumper is 71 1/2 or 72 inches.

Thank You George....during research, I found that stepside bumpers from
1967 thru 1986 have the same part #. Now that I have your measurement,
I can begin my search...I HATE buying the wrong parts !

As you have read in my build, I went through three bumpers before I got the right one. Two really cause the first one was all scratched up due to shipping.
Good luck and I hope you will find the right one the first time.

Today, I wired the Camaro gas tank sending unit.. mounted the temp controls, and the speed o meter cable. a few minor things that I wanted to get out of the way.

Next week I am ordering my front bumper. I know for sure that I want have any trouble with it not fitting. The second picture is a little burry. It shows the speed-o-meter cable going through the fire wall. I hope to take the old girl to the muffler shop next month. Then I can buy my carb and crank her up.

Just read your build thread from beginning. Nice work. Surprised myself in how much I remembered and also how much I forgot about both the 68's and the 72's. The work is one thing. but tracking it and updating it so frequently (with pictures) is to be greatly admired.
regards

Thanks. The reason I post so many pictures is that someone might see and remember how things go. I have had to search this forum for pictures of items that I forgot about. Maybe someone will find this in my thread.

Well, today we had strong winds here in Florida. The same storm that dumped 2 feet of snow up north gave us strong winds. I have to get another tarp for my canophy. here is the damage to my shelter. I hope this has not slowed down buying my front bumper.

I removed the ripped tarp off the canopy today. I wanted to put the new one back, but the wind was blowing a little too much to do it by myself.

I ordered my front bumper today. The expected delivery date is 2.06.15. Then all my body parts will be behind me. My next thing is the stainless bed strips un-punched. Then I can do my bed floor.

I wanted to put the new tarp on my canopy, but the weather was too cold. It was 32 this morning. Maybe tomorrow. The temp. went from 32 to 70 in just a few hours.
ICE ICE ICE the ole girl never had ice on her before.
